1610 calories

Plan is to run 4 miles outside tonight, and probably have a big protein shake (320) afterwards. So that should put me at 1930 calories for the day and leave me with 8,240 for the next 4 days (2060/day) to hit 15,000.

Ended up running 8 miles. That ties for my longest run ever. Took me 1 hr 33 minutes.

That last big hill at mile 7.5 almost defeated me ... but then I looked towards the top of the hill and pretended I was Denzel Washington in Training Day and said "YOU AIN'T GOT SHIT ON ME!" Haha, so I ran the whole thing. Neighbors probably think I'm crazy, and if they see me after mile 6, muttering to myself and talking out loud, I don't blame them.

Tried out my new $16 blister socks ... which are amazing. And I had a 90 calorie gel at mile 5 and a 230 calorie protein shake and a 120 calorie piece of cheese. So I have 8,120 for the next 4 days. I weighed 282.5 after running, that's down 4 lbs in 3 days (but I prolly sweated out 2 lbs of water). I probably should up my calories again since I'm upping my mileage from 18 to 25+miles this week, but I want to finish my 15,000 calorie experiment first.

p.s. Low fat cheese is the best snack ever. 1/4 brick is 120 calories, and leaves you full and satisfied for hours. Compare that to a crappy 100 calorie sugar filled granola bar or yogurt which only makes you MORE hungry and wanting to eat 3 more.

Racing 10K today in Lake Geneva, then 8 miles with partner Sunday to round out week at 30 miles! That's a big jump, but I feel great so I'm going to try to hold at 30 all month before adding even more.

Hey MM; your last few posts are so imressive, both food choices and the length of your runs. The other day I did a measly 2.5 miles on the treadmill and I thought of your progress and had to laugh inside. Better than laughing out loud at the gym while watching t.v. on the treadmill monitor. The King of Queens just cracks me up. People beside me look at me and must think I'm a nut. LOL
Have a great weekend.

That was the hardest, most difficult 6 mile run EVER. Started with trail running on ice for a mile, then a huge hill that seemed like a 45 degree angle ... then when that was over ... we got 2 more giant Mt. Everest style hills that I had to walk up. That sucked.

But it was fun and somehow I still ran like a 12:10 pace even with all the walking up the ridiculous hills.

Tomorrow I'm making fajitas and pumpkin chocolate chip muffins ... and my dads making chicken wings and mini weiners, and my sisters making nacho dip. And I'm running 8 miles so I'm going to be hungry and not feel to guilty. Could be trouble. :toetap05:

2.5 miles isn't measly ... it's AWESOME! :hurray: Heck, I never ran more than that really until the last couple months. And isn't the dad on the King of Queens the funniest guy ever. I watch that show all the time.

Sometimes I play the air drums towards the end of my treadmill runs when I'm delirious ... but I don't care at that point.

:smilielol5: OMG!!! I was doing that on Thursday. Couldn't get on a machine with a tv so I was listening to music. Nice to know I'm not the only one ;)

I'm going to cut up a whole bunch of celery for tomorrow. As long as I have something else to munch on I think I'll stay away from all the "other" stuff!!! Be strong :drool5:

Confession: I totally binged at the Superbowl party. Oh well, back to running. I ended up at 28 miles last week. This week I'm shooting for 30.

I'm hoping the blizzard keeps up and the gym is empty so I can get in a good 2 hours on the treadmill and shoot for my first 10 mile run. If it's busy though ... I guess I'm running in the blizzard.

My fat ass will see 270's again soon!

Damn, 10 miles on the treadmill?! I really don't think I could do that. I bet you could make it happen though!

Nice job hitting 28 miles... in one week!?! Jeez. I need to kick it up a notch and start running more again!

Well I'm officially a fuck up. How is it that I can have the discipline to run 30 miles a week and I'm still stuck in the 280's ... the same weight I was in November? Well, I guess I know ... every time I lose 10 lbs I pig out for 2 days and gain most of it back. Ahhh! Like tonight, the snow is bad so I don't run, and then I snack, and snack and snack some more! I told myself I NEED to track my food and so I do for a 2 weeks and do great, then stop for 3 days and it all goes to hell.

So starting tomorrow I'm going to post my shit everyday. Or else I think I'm going to be the fattest man running this marathon. But damn if I won't be in good shape. :)

Going to bed so I can get up at 2:45am and get to the gym by 3:45 so I can get a good, long run in. I'll be back on schedule then and ready to kick some ass.

By the way ... why is it that everyone wants to call me skinny? Uh, HELLO! my fat ass is 280+ pounds. I wish my family would belittle and degrade me to keep me motivated. I seemed to work much better when everyone doubted me. Haha.

Yeah, it's gonna suck in a way. Outside is much more fun. But I really want to be a distance runner. In my wildest dreams I'd be able to run a 3:10 marathon in 5 years and qualify for Boston. Might as well try. I'm really passionate about running, which I guess most people don't understand. But I'm just cranky now b/c I haven't run in 2 days. It relieves all my stresses and leaves me high for half the day. I'm planning on building up to 40 miles per week by the end of March and staying there for the whole year (except tapering for my 2 marathons) until next winter. If the rule of run 2 seconds faster for every pound you lose holds up ... I should be pretty quick once I hit 180.

Oh, and I just ordered a book on nutrition for endurance running, so hopefully that gives me some good insight.

Wake up at 2:45, get all jacked up for my 10-mile run, put on my iPod and ... damn, I left it on and the battery died. Run 3/4 miles and my shin is tight, so I switch shoes and run another 1/2 mile ... still tight. Ended up switching shoes back and putting new inserts in and it felt better. Then I ran 1 mile, walked 1/4 a couple times. And finished off with a total of 5.5 miles and ran a mile in 9:35 to finish it off! Did that just for thelast20. So excited I could hold that pace for a steady mile. Woo! Hopefully my legs hold up to the pounding I've been giving them. Everything seemed ok by the end of the run.

Nice timing!! That is awesome! I can tell you are passionate about running - I am too but I don't put as much time as I should into it! :angelsad2: And I've pretty much been the same weight since November too... blah! BUT on the bright side, we are getting stronger... and you have come a long way since November with your fitness. Keep it goin'!

Hang in there!! I think it is difficult to figure out the right amount of food to eat when you are running so much. Maybe you need to talk to a nutritionist if the book doesn't help you.

You can do this. Running the half-marathon and ultimately a marathon is great. Heck, I would never even attempt either!! But you know you want to lose the weight too. I am having the same struggles, and I have to find a way to get past them!! I am doing great on exercise - walking, biking, lifting weights - but the weight is not going anywhere. Obviously it is better to be in shape and fat than out of shape and fat, but I want to be in shape and thin.

Keep running...

straighten out your diet!

I was reminded of me when I was working out twice a day and running too and was stuck at a weight plateau. The light dawned when I figured out I was eating as much as I was burning.

Start reading product labels. Do you actually know what is in a King Size Snickers bar or Honey Nut Cheerios? Switch to protein bars and plain Cheerios. Cut out the junk food.

You are running like a machine. I amazed at your endurance. Can you imagine your speed at 225lbs?

Good work Marathon Man! Really inspiring! Doesn't it seem crazy that your weight has stayed the same? The same thing is happening to me - exercise is better than great but eating is not, so I'm getting my focus back and going to make it work! Stay focused and keep it up!

My problem is that I binge every now and then. I'm developing a much healthier relationship with food now though. I eat perfect enough to lose weight, but it doesn't help if I eat 6000 calories a day 2 days in a row and ruin my week.

?

Oh, yeah. I know a king size snickers is 440 calories and honey nut cheerios are 110. I eat very healthy 90% of the time. I know exactly how many calories I eat. Not that it matters if I eat half a pan of brownies, some muffins, fajitas and chicken wings during my super bowl party. And I'm giving up my protein bars and stuff I used to eat b/c I need to get more carbs. I don't get nearly enough some days.

Yeah, I'll still be 275-279 by the end of the month if I keep tracking my calories. I'm putting my focus back on my diet. Actually, I got back up to like 294-ish a bit ago, so I'm actually down a good 6 pounds the last few weeks, but I know I should be WAY ahead of where I am now.

Wed Food Log

Energy Gel - 90
Oatmeal w/ Blueberries - 275
Chicken, Brown Rice, Peppers, Salsa - 400

12" Subway chicken w/ light BBQ - 700
Banana - 100

1665 calories

The past few weeks I've been eating extra crap like protein drinks and peanut butter and things just to add more calories, but that seems counter-productive to losing weight. I mean, I know I can eat 2500/day and still lose weight ... but that is A TON of food since I eat very healthy. I mean, do have any idea how much oatmeal, chicken and bananas I'd have to eat to get that many calories!

I just made a casserole. 1 box of whole wheat noodles, 1 can of Garlic Tomato sauce, 1 green pepper, 1 yellow pepper, 1 red pepper, one onion, 1.5 lbs. chicken plus some spices. That WHOLE pan is less than 2400 calories. So I know I should eat more, but if I'm basically eating mostly whole natural foods like fruits and vegetables, that seems pretty hard.

Working all day so I have my food planned out for today.

Thursday Food log

Oatmeal w/ blueberries - 200
Chicken/Veggie pasta - 300
2 bananas - 220
Chicken/Veggie pasta - 300
Chicken/Veggie pasta - 300

1320 calories ... :toetap05:

Haha, after just typing that rant above ... I realize today I'm only going to eat 1300, that seems extremely low. But that's basically 4 bowls of heaping food plus 2 snacks of fruit. Maybe I'll eat more after my 4 mile run tonight, but it seems stupid to eat just to eat when I'm full.

Hey Marathon Man!! Just wanted to say way to go for setting that goal in May!

I set a similar goal as well to do a half marathon a few years back, this summer will be my 4th consecutive one.

You're going to love the feeling at the finish line!! You will have earned that metal they hand around you neck and it feels good!!

Woo-hoo! 4 in a row, now THAT'S impressive. :)

So I'm only at 8 miles so far this week, and all my runs have sucked (I can feel that shin muscle getting funny on me). I'm hoping it's the treadmill. That always seems to cause me problems and I usually feel OK running outside. My buddy just texted me, "8 or 10?" And of course I told him 10, so that means after having not gone more than a mile straight all week I get to attempt my first double-digit miler tomorrow! Ahhh! At least I've taken it easy so hopefully it all goes good.

Friday Food Log
Oatmeal w/ Blueberries and Applesauce - 295

I can relate to the bingeing problems. Just one bad binge each week can literally sabotage your weight loss progress. Heck, you can even eat good all week and not lose weight. It's just plain hard to tolerate being in a caloric deficit! BUT, we have to dig deep and find out what we're really made of and how bad we really want it and just freaking DO IT!

Be careful with the shin splints. If they flare up on you, you really have no choice but to take some time off. If you let them get severe, you can lose an entire month of training before they will heal. Been there, done that.
