A dairy from India

Everyone was drinking copious amounts and eating pizza and other greasy stuff. I had my steamed corn waiting at home, and I didn't even touch the greasy stuff, drank three glasses of water. Then they ordered my favourite (grilled veggies) pizza and....and....and....and....I DID NOT EVEN HAVE A PIECE. I am pretty proud of myself.

You damn well should be!! thats amazing Juni way to go!!!!

Hi

Hi juni, sorry for replying late dear,Congrats for your self control girl and I am sure when you have learned this art of self control you will surely have a great journey of this weight loss :)
Well what I can see from your post is that you seem to be confused about your diet and your routine also seems messed up!If you wanna lose weight you need to be eating right, in that context I mean right amout of calories, good carbs and protein along with fruits and vegetables,Now with your messed up eating timings you are making your digestive system weak and that's why you feel bloated,Now that you are determined to lose weight why don't you meet a good dietician and explain her/him your daily routine, your chocolate cravings,so that she/he can educate you and help you with your goals.I would suggest that it will make your life much more easier and eliminate confusion and fear of failure :)
Take care :)

I had a biig report due yesterday, so could not reply. I was good about my diet up until Wednesday night, Thursday was just a little difficult as I was in meetings all day. I am coming back on track again from today, so let's see. Tomorrow is the day I go on scales..(yikes!) Lets see.

Nighrunner, India is great, people are lovely and the food is amazing. Is it any wonder that I have gained weight like never before? Thanks for dropping by to say hi. Hope your running and food monitoring is going well? Thanks for the kind words.

Endurance: You are right--must make an appointment with a dietitian. I actually hadn't even considered this- coz I thought I was doing things right. But I have a really really busy and often unpredictable schedule- which totally messes up my eating times. I'll make it a point to find a good dietitian. Will keep you updated. Know anyone in Dilli city who is good?

My food diary this evening.

Until then....

Been raining raining raining here, so haven't been able to go to yoga. Hopefully Sunday...

So tomorrow I weigh myself, but I am still a little bit nervous. The last few days have been a little stressful, which is why I havent had the time to really plan my meals and eat properly.

Breakfast (10 am)--took a day off and woke up late- omelet and a piece of toast

Lunch (1pm)- Arugula salad with a cup of tea

I had a glass of wine (after soooooo long)

Dinner (6pm)- corn and cooked beans

I also had a little treat today :( -some sour patches and a choc chip cookie. I was feeling really guilty about it but I had a really really stressful week, so I thought I need to reward myself. I did stick to one cookie and 2-3 sour patches.

Hey did you weigh yourself?Adopt a healthy lifestyle and don't worry about the scales, the weight is surely gonna come down,Please go through this thread-http://weight-loss.fitness.com/topic/17596-scale-mentality.html

Yay yay yay!! I weighed myself and guess what? I am down to 136.4lbs from 140. I am so happy. That gave me motivation to work extra hard to keep healthy today (although a Saturday). Plus it was a friend's birthday today and I avoided all the oily sugary stuff (I only had a bite of the really really yummy chocolate cake).

My log:

B'fast (10am)- bzzz---woke up late: yogurt and a pear

Lunch 12.30- bulgar wheat salad, lentil soup

Snack 3.30- latee and some almonds

Dinner 6.30- about five veggie dumplings, 1/2 grilled chicken on focacia bread sandwitch and a small Indian sweet called gulab jamun (yum!!)

Back to yoga tomorrow!! I have another stressful week this week. And Sunday we wrap the project so will have a little bit of free time from Friday (fingers crossed).

Endurance: Thanks for the encouraging words. I did weigh myself and looks like i have lost some. I was worried that it was just water weight, but friends in this community reminded me that water weight lost is still weight lost. So yay!! U are right about not thinking toooo much about weighing yourself though. The point is to learn about living in a healthy way for the rest of your life. Thanks for the reminder. :)

Food log:

8AM: whole wheat toast with just a little bit of mango jam, yogurt and some almonds

11.30Am- One chappati, bulgar wheat salad, cooked cauliflower and a glass of buttermilk

4.30pm- two apples (really small crunchy ones) and a banana

7.30pm- bulgar wheat slad (1/2 cup), cooked cauliflower and an egg

9pm- two choc chip cookies (ugh!)- why why why??

Yoga- 40 minutes in the morning.

Was at work again today. Very stressful week ahead. Will try to really watch what I eat.

Hope everyone is well..

Chocolate chip cookies are difficult to resist!! Thats why! We have some sitting in the cupboard that I've been debating on :toetap05: I figure as long as I have my fatfree ice cream, I can fend off the craving until everyone else eats them.

You have to reward yourself sometimes, just be glad it wasn't the entire box :svengo: I'm not sure what stuff you can get there, if they have sweets that are healthy or small 100 calorie packets like they have here. Try baking "sweets" Something that feels like you're getting your sugary goodness into you but you're really not. What about finding a healthy cookbook?

You dont need to get rid of all the amazing tasting goodies, you just need to substitute them with equally amazing goodies that are good for you too :p

Congratz on your 4 pound loss! It's amazing :D and shows that even though you're sneaking the cookies once and a while you're still doing great!

keep up the good work, I know you can do it

Antyoch, I know! Those darn choc chip cookies!! I did resist them last night though. :) I am proud of myself. Low fat ice-cream sounds good. It is hard to find low fat stuff here (or maybe I just haven't had time to look for em). I Should really take the time out and go grocery shopping this weekend.

I really want to get to the point where sweets and bakery stuff do not tempt me. I guess it is a part of living healthy for the rest of my life.

So I was exhausted last night and did't log on to the internet. Food log for yesterday 10 August:

B'fast 8AM- apples, a banana and lots and lots of yogurt

Snack 11AM- cucumbers and a cup of tea

Lunch 2PM- bulgar wheat salad (1/2 cup), cauliflower, squash and other veggies

Snack 4PM- a cup of tea

Dinner 7PM- 1 chappati, curry and some butter milk.

So one of my colleagues has this motherly habit of insisting that I eat food. Yesterday she brought croissants and asked me if I wanted one. I said thank you, but no. The annoying thing is, she kept on insisting that I have one. She must've said that like 10 times. She is a really sweet girl, and I really like her but she also has this habit, which really annoys me. But I RESISTED. Didn't even have a bite. Later I sat her down and explained to her properly why I refused and I think she understood. For now. I have a feeling she's not going to give her habit of insisting any time soon. :)

Gotta go grab b'fast!

I overslept and missed my yoga class so my day started out blah today. Work was really really stressful. I tried my best to eat healthy. Here's my food log for today:

B'fast 9AM- muesli and yogurt

Snack 11AM- cucumbers

Lunch 2PM- 2 chappatis, cooked cauliflower

Dinner 6PM- noodles tossed with egg and canned tuna (those were the only things in my fridge).

What happened to my fruits intake today? I have been drinking water like a fish.

It seems like the stuff I eat is boring. I am always eating cauliflower and muesli. Ugh! Any new ideas?

funny bloated kinda feeling

Hi Everyone,

For the last week or so, I feel like something weird is going on in my tummy. I have been eating healthy but apart from that I feel like during the evenings my stomach gets bloated. It starts after lunch and is especially worse when I have dinner in the evening. If I don't have dinner I feel fine. One of the reasons I started eating early dinner (6PM) is to avoid that, but it doesn't seem to be working. I keep enough interval between my meals, so it could be that my tummy is full of gas or something. Can stomach be tired? I feel fine the next day. Anyone else going through the same thing? Thanks.

Juni

Been so swamped so haven't been able to come come here too often. Been trying REALLY REALLY hard to eat right. Because of a stressful week, I haven't been able to go to Yoga. :(

Food Log for 13 August

9AM- muesli and yogurt

12pm-cucumbers

2pm-curry and 2 chappatis

5pm-two apples

7.30pm-cucumber, tomatoes, cauliflower, string beans, onion and canned tuna salad with two slices of brown bread and another slice with mango jam (very very small amount)- i thought this would be a better dessert than choc chip cookie or a piece of chocolate

Food log for 13 Aug

9Am- yogurt and muesli

12pm- one and a half chappatis with some beans and cauliflower

3pm- two small hommade cookies with a cup of tea

5pm-veggie salad (very small)

7.30pm- what was left of the veggie salad, a piece of brown bread with mango jam.

My stomach has been feeling much better. I think it is because i have been eating small meals and when the stomach doesn't get snack/meal on time it starts acting weird. I have had small meals throughout yesterday and today so I feel much better.

Also, i couldn't eat more than one and half pieces of chappati for lunch today (i usually eat two), i was full by that time, so didn't force myself to eat the rest. Could I be learning to eat healthier? :)

Economics and politics ? boring and easy?! doesnt sound like it to me!!!!

I know what you mean about struggling to eat right when stressed...i always get the munchies while studying for exams, so i keep carrots and grapes and apples and pretty much anything thats healthy on hand...i tend to crave sweets when im stressed...or something with "crunch" ...

Hi dear, how are you?Take some time for yourself from your busy schedule,if you miss your yoga, do take a stroll,do some kind of activity that you enjoy and always have an exclusive "me" time, it surely helps and we all deserve it :)Have a great weekend :)

So I have not been as good about logging my food as I was the past few weeks. I do, however, have recorded everything on fitday.com to count calorie so copying and pasting it here.

14 August 2009

9AM- yogurt and muesli

11AM- spinach, chick peas and some boiled bulgar wheat

2PM- tomatoes, cucumbers, green bell pepper, onion, string beans salad, 2 boiled potatoes- this I was eating slowly until five (it is really really yum), no dressing, just lemon and a little bit of olive oil

6PM- cheese sandwich with cucumber, lettuce and tomatoes (no mayo or butter )- it was yum. I had two though :(

15 August 2009

It was a bad day for food. I was good all day and then I went out to a party at night and there were all sorts of munchies and cheese dips and what not, and I just couldn't resist. I even ate before I went so that I would not be tempted, but that didn't quite work.

10AM (woke up late)- yogurt

12.30 PM(lunch)- make your own burrito- grilled chicken, cheese, refried beans, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa and verrrry little sour cream. I didn't have dessert (opted for a mango slushi instead) but i had two cups of coffee :(

6PM- veggie salad

Then I went to the party and had tacos with cheese dip, deep fried pakodas, some chips, one glass of gin and tonic (was really good about alcohol), some rice noodles with veggies, chicken with cashews, biriyani and a rasgulla. Then I had a small piece of rasgulla for dessert (Normally I wouldve taken two but I was good about curtailing myself).

The party food was all home cooked, so it was not that oily and spicy. And I think I got my good dose of protein and calcium for the next few days.

I was feeling really guilty about the party food, but one cheat day is allowed. I promised myself i wasn't going to reward myself w/ food, but my social life had kinda sucked these past few weeks, so I was happy to have gone to the party. Met some really cool ppl and generally had a good time.

Question: What percentage of the food we eat everyday has to be carbs? I have realized (through fitday.com) that a large portion (sometimes 65%) of what I eat everyday is carbs. I eat good carbs (no white bread, fried potatoes, white rice, sugary stuff). My carbs come from multigrain bread, wheat chappati, boiled potatoes. Is what I am doing ok?

The weird bloating is gone but I am approaching TOM so, I may be bloating up pretty soon.

Oh, and I lost nudder 2.2lbs this week. So yay me!

Thanks, sweetie. This last week has been absolutely madness. I have another few days of craziness and it should get better after that. I have been walking wherever I can, so I guess that is alright. Thanks for stopping by my diary. Hope you are feeling better?

Hey - I just thought I'd jump in and answer your percentages question.

A pretty standard split is 40/30/30 - that's 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% healthy fats. Some people vary that a bit, but overall that's a nice healthy split.
