7 Days at the Gym??

OK guys! or gals.... Here is your chance to torture FlyinFree- that's me. hehehe- I will torture you if i get my chance (not weirdo stuff- fitness stuff) hehehehahahahaha

I am sold on the results of weights; it's the gym or fitness center I am not so sure about. So, I am going to do a 7 day trial at 24 hour fitness. I am physically fit. I am after some vanity results.

7 days, 90 minutes each day- what would you recommend? hurt me, hurt me!

well, your relatively new to this right? lifting 7 days a week isent really a smart thing to do. You dont HAVE to go every day in this week. Id lift 3 times a week, do a full body. for the trial week, sit down and figure out when you will be going to the gym if you do, what times and what day, then go there then and see how crowded it is. It could also be a good idea to ask them when the peak hours usually are, and go see then too, to get an impression of how crowded it is. Nothing is more boring than having to wait for a squat rack or something.

You have been here for a while, but not been to a gym? no home equippment? would this be your first time lifting weights? If so, id take the time there to work on form, do you know if the gyms trainers are any good? If so, get them to show you. Search for "technique articles" on the forum, you'll find a pist i made, theres alot of articles on the squat, bench and deadlift and romanian deadlift. Read them, and practice with LOW weight, just the bar to start with, look in the mirror, and if you got a video camera, take a vid, put it on youtube and post the link here.

And i guess you want to start making a routine? search for "routine" or "full body workout" and the likes, read a bit of the basic info, when you get the idea, put together one of your own or just take something we have suggested before. Put it up here and i can help you with balance etc.

ohhh good points there Karky.

OK- yes I have been in weight training in the past. I understand the machines and all of that. I may sound like a weirdo here for a minute but-- I got into some wholeistic thinking, and I get more into it all the time. I like the woods, I like the climbing and pulling up and doing inverted exercises, and free running.... and all that kind of stuff. Being a skydiver, martial artist, athletic type performance driven guy,,, weights and vanity efforts seemed welll,,, not like they seem to me today.

So, I can handle the weights and form and strengthening. I have a center, or balance if you will. I will go each of the 7 days, unless one of you works me into a spot that I can't. I work out in some capacity every day because I like the endorphins, and the heart rate, and the performance in all activites that exerting the body gives me.

SO, I am going to the gym for 7 days to check it out.

Let's punich this body I have... you have no idea what I am mentally capable of putting this body thru... this is about hammer the body because it is fun!!

Full body sound good. and I will read the posts you mentioned.

OK, one more lil post from me.

I am not looking for expert, educational, yada yada advice. I am a radical fly by the seat of my pants, punk you if I can, resapect you if you earn it, type of dude!

I took up the loca 24 hour fitness on their 7 day trial-- YOU GUYS and GALS ARE GYM RATS... work me out!! make it hurt. use you rexperience,, you know like... me challengin you to do a balancing handstand pressup!! there is no gym involved there,,, but I can take you to the limit physically and mentally within an 8 ft square with no equipment........

So, I am coming into your world-- punk me,,, show me what it is all about!

I'm thinking my thoughts may be true "gym people are all talk and technique" let's see one get out here and perform!" you have no idea how many times I've said that.

FF, I told you to quit doing all that speed. Your posts wear me out sometimes.

There's no reason to go 7 days in a row. The only allowance I would make to that is if you were going to get some cardio via elliptical, rower, or swimming. You want to punish yourself, but you don't need to go for 7 days in a row...that can be very counter-productive and have the opposite results of what you're looking for.

The body has to recover and rest in order to grow; if you're tearing it down every day, it never gets teh chance to recover and you don't make gains.

That being said-4 days of lifting+2 days of cardio would suit you fine.

Upper, lower, off, upper, off, lower, off

hey thanks for a post here Evo. I will follow that plan as far as body region goes. I guess I will have to read some of the stickys to get some detail direction on what to do for "upper" "lower."

If somebody comes on here and gives themselves up for even a "single" day of training, I would have a hay day with them. It amazes me. Like that 2 minute pushup poster-- what a poser. One thing I am not, is a poser!

Yes, overwhelming I can be. Sorry about that. But, I have never drank, I don't do drugs, I am a fitness junkie, and I do piles of athletic stuff!

Call it "in session." I do appreciate you saying it though. And I will even try and tone it down some. ha!!

Winner win, because they play.

This should make it easy on you-
Upper:
*Rotate flat bench and military press paired up with either weighted chins or seated cable rows, 1 arm db rowing, or chest supported rows: work up to a heavy triple on pressing and do the same amount of sets in the 6-12 rep range for the back movements
*Pair incline db pressing with one of the back movements above. Work sets:3-4X6-12 for both pressing and pulling
*Pick 1 movement for the biceps and triceps and triset the entire thing with face pulls:2-4X10-15

Lower:
Rotate deadlift and back squat:5X5
Single leg movement-bulgarian squats, lunges, bb step ups, etc:3-5X8-12 each leg
back ext or cable pullthroughs:2-3X10-20
An ab movement:2-3X10-20

thank you Sir. I just got off the phone with LA fitness, they have a better facitlity than 24 hour, and I am headed there tomorrow night after TKD. So I will knock out my first day of upper.

indebted to you for taking the time.

Evo,
I am working on my punctiuation.

easier to read hopefully

Also, I will use free weights as much as possible? no problem with gettign a spotter and stuff. I'm not shy.

I am going after TKD tonight.

Please explain these two statements if you will.

"heavy triple" (on pressing)

(triset the entire thing with) "face pulls?"

a tripple is a set with 3 reps. a Doubble is with 2 reps and a single is with 1 rep. Heavy tripple just means to work up to a heavy set of 3.

by triset i guess he means do a set of biceps, rest do a set of triceps, rest, do a set of face pulls, rest, repeat. Or did you mean to do them without rest, Evo?

got it! that is not what I was thinking at all.

I think I will just show this list of stuff to the person at the facility tonight.

Thanks Karky!
