Hey froggd, great job, great story with great motivation. your journey was so long, and even if you do not reach your goal weight, you have actually made it. not many people can say they lost over 150 lbs. I need to lose just 60-70 lbs, and it feels impossible, so your journey must have felt impossible as well, and look, you have made it, really. You are so close to your goal, you cannot be upset. Do you ever cheat on your lifestyle change of healthy choices for food? Also, Being 5'9" we are similar in height, what size shirt do you fit into now? What size shirt do you hope to fit into at 170? Thanks!

Thanks a lot, Beast :) Love your name btw! Is it in reference to the Transformers universe? Beast Wars was such an awesome show! I grew up on that CGI series during the mid 90's :)

I am proud of how far I've come, but that's not to say I haven't grown frustrated at times. It seems like the closer I get to my goal, the more I feel like I'm sinking into quick sand. It's just so hard to get out of these plateaus and water retention phases sometimes.. and it's incredibly easy to slip into one.

I really try my hardest to keep my cheats to 1 day per week (Sunday). There have been times though, especially in social situations, where I have slipped up. Sometimes the slip up is minimal (a turkey burger or veggies that go passed my calorie limit), and other times it's quite significant (chinese food, pizza, ice cream, etc).

It happens to everyone at some point. If someone who's lost significant weight tells you they haven't slipped up a few times over the course of their regimen, they're lying. You need to indulge at times, otherwise you will get frustrated and binge. Yeah, you can crave those junk food items less as you incorporate healthier alternatives into your new lifestyle, but c'mon.. everyone loves a little salt and sweets sometimes :p

Plus, mixing up your calorie intake is good as it creates confusion and helps you to avoid plateaus :)

So long as you don't make it a habitual thing, you're fine!

At my heaviest, I was wearing 3-4x shirts. I'm wearing Medium now, but if I eat enough junk on my cheat day, I sometimes dip my toe back into the 'Large' category again, but not often :) I've given most of my Large T-shirts away and have only been buying/wearing Medium.

Well, when I hit my goal of 165, I'll probably still be wearing Medium, but maybe have a few small on standby :p It also depends on the manufacturer. I've sometimes bought Large shirts that feel like mediums, and vice versa.

Anyway, hope that little shpeel helped in some day :) Best of luck to you, BM!

AFrogged, I hit a plateau for 6 months before I realized it. Try HIIT. Its possibly a plataeu, not sodium at this point. Ironically, I also hit my major plateau around 170 to 180. Man, I remember looking at that bodyfat device handheld so often, which can be accurate, gave me a general idea.. But man, getting to 15% bf from 16-17% was so hard! This is possibly what's happening with you. You can do this, frogged. I know you will. But HIIT is very exhausting. You will notice results if you do it right. Best, your friend kevin

Hey man, I'm a big fan. And I'm also From Pennsylvania, so look at that! :p

Your story has inspired me. So far, in the last three months I have lost 75 lbs. I read your story in February and it got me thinking; we need more stories like yours. We need more content focused on young men trying to lose weight.

So I've shared my story and written some articles for a site called http://weightloss4teenguys.com/?page_id=87

That link I've given has a brief description of your accomplishment as well as a link to this forum post. I was wondering if I could get a first name so instead of Mr.Frogged on the forum I could use a more appropriate name. Anyway, thanks for your efforts. You've inspired me, and hopefully once me and my team launch www.weightloss4teenguys.com your story and mine will help inspire other young men trying to lose weight.

Peace out. Take care.

Hey Frogged, I have to thank you for sharing your story on here. Yesterday I had enough with my weight - currently at my maximum which is 380lbs (pretty much the same as yours) and I seen a doctor and everything. He did some tests and thankfully I have absolutely no health issues, for now. He did refer me to be considered for bariatric surgery - this scared the heck out of me. My story starts similar to yours as well - a poor relationship with a close family member really contributed to stress and resulted in weight gain. Not passing blame - just saying that stress was a factor in the weight gain. I've had enough now though. Yesterday, my doctor referred me to a program called Ideal Protein. I'm going to try it and I got my fiancee to try it too. We start it on Monday and we're SO pumped to start it together. Your story is so similar to mine, its very inspirational!

Hey Kev :)

Yeah, this plateau is annoying.. but, I'm still fighting it every day!

Thank you for the suggestion about HIIT :) I will look into it - anything that could help!

Hope you're doing well :)

Hi Joe!

Hmm, I'll take a look at that website :) I've been so busy with new things going on in life that I haven't really been able to focus much on the forums here.

Cheers!

Hi Banker :)

Yeah, we do have similarities it seems. But, it's nothing you can't conquer :) I know you and your fiancee can do it, especially having each other for support! That's one of the keys to making sure you're successful :) Good support is invaluable! These forums can provide it to a degree, but to have someone face-to-face that you can actually lean on, that's great :)

Good luck to you, and I'm happy if my story helped with your motivation in anyway :)

Daaayum! You look amazing, having said that, you also looked great before the weight loss but now you look happier and healthier :) well done! x

"you also looked great before the weight loss[/b]"

Don't kid yourself.

EDIT: If you think what I said I was harsh.. It's silly comments like this that cause obesity in the first place.

Thank you, holly! :)

Much healthier and happier, for sure. Although I'd be lying if I said my confidence level was at an all-time high now. Along with losing this much weight, there also comes several new obstacles to overcome. Of course, I'd much rather deal with these new circumstances than remain how I was!

Like anything, it just takes time to sort out and deal with.

Thanks for the kind words and the lovely post :)

Appreciate the bluntness, frobie.. however, I think it's safe to say negativity about any aspect of weight-loss, or your appearance, does no good in the end - regardless of what stage of the journey you're in. It just creates unneeded stress, which only hinders the process.

The comment wasn't silly, it was encouraging. I know how I looked (and felt) back then and, yes, it wasn't 'great'. But, with the mindset I had before becoming serious about getting healthier, it could've been a lot worse. Thankfully, I managed to find the turning point for change before it was too late.

Just, I dunno.. try to be more positive :)

It goes a long way.

Me again!

I am going to keep it short (compared to my usual essays haha!) keep up the great work, I can not wait to read the articles and buy your book... don't forget us when you make it big

Thanks so much for the ongoing support, you really are an amazing person.

Hey man, I don't know if I ever managed to stop by your thread/threads before but if not, my apologies.

I have had several people tell me I have inspired them and I know how that feels so I want to pay it forward.

Your story was one of the originals I came across on this site however long and your accomplishments have helped me push through. I started at 308.6 and currently ring in at ~228.

Thanks Frogged. Your story, your threads...they have helped a lot of us :)

Frogged, how are you doing my friend? Haven't heard from you in awhile. The lasr 7-8 months I've been doing the martial art of aikido.

Best, kevin

Wow, so it's been a while since I updated this thread, haha :) I've been mostly hanging about in my journal in the Diary section, but nice of you to stop by with some lovely words, mini!

Haha, not sure about 'making it big', but I'm still gonna try to see if People will accept my story.

I actually emailed the editor a few weeks ago with links to here, and to my blog, but I think it was ignored :( I'm gonna try again soon, but this time with pictures. I think I have a better chance if there's more visual impact in my email, rather than links to what could just be anything. I think that's probably why I never received a response.

At any rate, I hope you're well, mini! :)

Heya Yellow!

Wow, that's so great to read :) It never fails to make me smile wide when I see that I've managed to help others accomplish their own goals. Your numbers are damn impressive, man! You keep at it!! =)

I've been meaning to update my diary with some videos I have from when I was 350+, but the holidays are just completely bogging me down. I get home from work, and have to really focus just to muster the energy some nights to do my exercise routine.. then I'm pretty fried :(

I hope to have them up properly very soon. I've only ever posted pics, but I promised I would post these videos when I hit certain milestones (which I have), so stay tuned :)

Best of luck to ya, and thanks for the nice message, yellow!

I'm pretty well for the most part, Kev! I sent you a PM a few weeks ago, but I'm not sure if you ever received it :\ Now, with the revamped website, it appears a lot of things have been removed/deleted.. hrmm

Some things have happened this year that have caused a bit of heart ache if I'm to be honest, but I just keep on keeping on.

I'm still well on my way to accomplishing my goals, and also getting my surgery (though that probably won't happen until next year as the holidays have me swamped!), hah

Also, aikido? I'm not familiar with that. I'm assuming any martial art-related activity = pretty good cardio :) How's it going?

Hope everything is good on your end, Kev! :)

Truly inspirational. You look like a totally different person. Congratulations on all you have accomplished, just goes to show, hard work, and exceptional will power and you can acheive whatever you want.

Thanks Anthony and R1962 :)

Still fighting the good fight as best I can. Haven't gained anything back really - still in the mid to low 180's. It bounces around a few pounds here and there, but I'm maintaining.
