Cohen's Lifestyle -30 kg for my 30th birthday

Prefix for Cohen's Lifestyle
Does anyone know this site:
I think it`s worth to read it as well, for some inspiration and yummy recepies!

Big shopping day

I always tought I got a well equiped kitchen, because I realy like cooking and I`m good at in, but today I`ve just bought 5 jar of new spices! It`s time to spice up my diet!!
And today I`ve also realized it is my week4, the time just gone so fast. I have to say, this is the first diet (I already over lots of..) when I didn`t count the days back, when I`m just doing my best.

You are doing really, really well, Ianina, so don't let your head "do you in" and don't kid yourself it's too slow or anything else. Ask yourself how much you would have lost if you WERE NOT doing Cohen's??? 6kg in 3 weeks is fantastic, no kidding!

I just get on with it every day now and don't worry too much. The weight loss inevitably slows down week by week, but all the time the weight goes downwards, and we get skinnier. And - as you said - that means we get new clothes, new compliments etc etc etc. All the better!

I had the best time when I caught up with a few people briefly in Adelaide - keep forgetting that if they haven't seen me for a year or so, they will get a shock! I wonder what they are staring at, and then the compliments come. So, however it goes, however fast or slow in any given week, it just goes, and that's great.

Yesterday I ate some cabbage for lunch and I have to say that`s not my veggie at all. I don`t realy like cabbage, but I gave it a chance. I felt bloated, pain in my stomach, and I slept hardly...no more cabbage for me, thank you...
And I gain weight again..500g, which is more than I lost last week. I don`t know why I gain, I don`t deviate...feel depressed.:(
Tomorrow is my week4, and have to go for a blood test and meet my consultant. I`m not happy about that, because I lost only 5kg in 4 weeks altough I so determined to this diet...
So far:
week1: -3.7kg
week2: -1.1kg
week3: -0.3kg
almost week4: -0.1kg
I`m far below the avarage weight loss. I wouldn`t say this is rapid fat loss at all for me...I`m sorry. :(

I keep the cabbage to a minimum as well - it's a bit gassy etc. But a very small amount mixed with other things is quite nice. Cabbage improves tremendously when stirred fried with the onion allowance and some spices, but it's still one I'm cautious with.

I prefer more things like choy sum, bok choy (except the young stuff).

Your body will lose chunks and then plateau and adjust, so don't let the numbers for any one week upset you too much. We always get annoyed when we don't see the nice, even drop but that does not seem to be how ladies' bodies work.

I have an Excel spreadsheet, and I graph the weekly weight loss. Of course it goes all over the place, but the nice thing is that I have a trend line set up to draw an average through it and it's very comforting that it always head sdown in a nice, smooth straight line. That keeps me sane!

It's not that your body is NOT metabolising fat - it just adjusts fluid balances and all sorts of other things as well in ways that you can't control. You just have to believe that if you are sticking to the diet, controlling what and when you eat, the loss will work for you too. Don't get upset, because just sticking to the plan you WILL get the result you desire. You just can't absolutely compare yourself to any other person or how they lose weight. I'm not a particularly fast loser on this, but I know that if I were NOT doing it, I would be losing NOTHING AT ALL!!! So I'm really happy. I'm now about 4 dress sizes down in clothing, and the difference is HUGE! Just make friendly Cohen meals part of every day and leave the weight to look after itself, because it will. The fat will metabolise every single day and flee!!

Visit Cate's diary and get some positive affirmations - "I am doing this diet as well as I can and my weight will look after itself". "I am getting thinner every single day". Believe it, because you are!

Hi Ianina-
Just a few suggestions-
"Every day I am getting a little bit slimmer. I deserve to be slim & healthy"
"I love the way I feel when I take good care of myself"
"I am enjoying eating healthy, nutritios food now"
"My body is a projection of my beliefs about myself. "
"I love the food that makes me healthy & slim".
Make them up for yourself.Whatever you want to believe in try to make it happen. It's best if you personalise something for yourself & by saying it during the day the idea is that you will end up believing it. It's amazing what some positive re-inforcement can do to our brains. Give it a try. Cheers, Cate. (Today "I choose happiness")

week4 - completed

-5.2 kg total, this week -0.1kg
-3.4% fat total, this week -0%
-6 cm total, this week +1 cm (on my tummy)

Cons: none
Pros: in the last 72 hours I look like this: :banghead:
Deviation: none (except weighing)

First offical weighin: -4.6 kg/4 weeks

Finally I met with my consultant today, and I don`t know what can I say about her. She doesn`t like me, or have a problem with me, or I don`t know, but I cried when I left her office. She is not supportive at all. When I mention my weekly weightloss firstly she rag me for doing it after she mentioned: "Yeah, with that excess weight, what I got, I should have lost 7-13kg on my first 4 weeks, not JUST 4.6kg." Is it a support?? I was way down in the last 3 days, because of my weightloss, but she just pushed me down further. She actually suggested to drink less water, you must be kidding me..I drink 4 full bottle of water/day, which is ~2.8-3l water. And bytheway why should I drink less, it doesn`t do anything with my weightloss...

If I would start this again, I wouldn`t sign it. I paid for getting a support, when I need, but I don`t get any. No support nor rapid fat loss. :(

I feel realy depressed these days, after my offical weighin I went to a mall and bought a chocolate bar (good old habits...). I haven`t eaten yet, but I don`t think so I will resist...I know, one deviation will cost me one week weightloss...one more joke: I lost only 100g this week, my choclate bar is 75g...And yes, actually I gained 1 cm on my tummy, probably because my TOM is due.

Sorry if I`m too iconoclast (? I`m not sure that`s the correct word for it), I`m just honest. I`m trying to gather myself together and give a push/go for the next 4 weeks. I will be away for a while, until I got something nice to say. I need time to think positively...It`s hard. :(

Hi Lalina!

First of all: you did MARVELOUSLY well! 5kg's is 10x heaps of butter -- that is quite a lot in ANY book!

Secondly: To be quite frank: your consultant is terrible. Do not listen to her demotivating way of thinking! Maybe she's doing it as she thinks that it'll actually "encourage" you to do better..or lose more. But she's not helping at all. You didn't deviate, you lost fat = you rock!
I repeat: you did amazing! That fat you lost is gone forever! Isn't that just a fabulous thought? If you stay on Cohen's (which you ARE ;) ) - that fat will never return on your body!

Thirdly: I have mentioned it, but I'm going to repeat it: you are doing SO WELL and you should be proud of your success! Please don't allow your consultant to make you feel any less proud of your efforts. You are 5kg's down..most people fail before even accomplishing that, when on a diet.

Give yourself a pat on the back and say "Yeah! I DID it! Now for the rest of my journey..."

*massive hugs*
Xxxxx

Ianina, I am really sorry you met such a bad consultant. Is she the owner of the clinic? I would send an email and mention that you were VERY unhappy.

I was lucky in that when I went through a clinic in Adelaide, I met quite a lot of their consultants over time and went in every two weeks. Most of them couldn't have been nicer. There are always a few that you get on extra-well with, but I never met anyone who wasn't nice and supportive. They also rang me at the beginning to check how I was going inbetween times, inviting me to ring anytime if I needed extra support.

You have every right to feel a bit disappointed with the fact that you haven't lost as much as some other people. But if I were you, I would not give up, and I still would try not to deviate. What you will probably find is that when TOM comes, you will lost a bundle of fluid and everything will sort out. That ALWAYS happens to me, and I usually find a few days before TOM I am very depressed, feeling negative and think silly things about my weight and so on. The extra 1cm on your abdomen is very unlikely to be extra "fat". There are two reasons for it - mostly fluid, but also, if you find that you are a bit constipated prior to TOM (which I am until just hours before it comes) then you will have more food sitting in your gut for a day or two. I really hope over the next day or two things sort out.

Somewhere I read some really interesting statistics on %s of weight losses on this diet. There are a few people who really lost tons very fast (mostly the men). The biggest bunch are in the middle and of course a smaller % who plod along at a slower rate. But whichever category you fit into - if the progress is downwards and you are sorting your body out, it's WAY better than giving up and going back to chocolate and other unhealthy things.

This is about learning to sort out a healthy eating pattern which maintains you for the long term. A few setbacks along the way are not to be unexpected, but don't let that cause you to give up on yourself.

If you have any tendency towards polycystic ovary syndrome, then the course is tougher than for others - but that makes it even more important to hang in there and get your hormones in balance.

Best of luck for the next few days, and I hope you feel lots better when TOM comes and you shed that fluid. It messes with your mind!!!

PS Ianina. Some day when you are in a supermarket, stack up 4 big tubs of 1kg margarine and have a look at HOW MUCH IT IS! All of that has come off your body in the last few weeks, which is FANTASTIC NEWS. If you weren't doing anything, you would STILL HAVE IT ALL!!!

If you keep going, in another few weeks you'll be able to add quite a lot more tubs to that stack, and so on. Sometimes we have to visualise the fat that we've lost to realise HOW WELL WE'VE DONE.

As Luvbug said, you have actually DONE WELL to lose all that, so keep your chin up about it all. Try not to worry if other people are losing "faster". All that matters is that you are getting more healthy as time goes by, and if you keep going, this is what will happen.

week 5 - completed

I just realized now I didn`t update my topic since my first offical weighing. So one week just gone, and I feel better now. I ate that choclate bar, what I bought after visiting my conultant, but since then I`m still 100% on Cohen!
I`m trying to think positively and forget my consultant. (I won`t complain about her, because she is the only one in my area, and she owns the office as well..) I think I did my best, so I shouldn`t blame myself anymore.

Let`s see my week 5 weighing:

-6.3 kg total, this week -1.1kg
-3.7% fat total, this week -0.3%
-8 cm total, this week -2 cm

Cons: slowly, but still loosing weight!
Pros: I feel weak.
Deviation: 75g chocolate bar

Fantastic news, Ianina! Sounds like your body is getting used to it all. Don't even worry about that chocolate bar any more - it's understandable because you were feeling so upset, but it's great you got straight back on track, and the weight loss is continuing so well!

week 6 - completed

I forgot to write about my sixth week weightin, just because I don`t have anything to write about, unfortunatelly. I didn`t lose any gramms or cms at all during my last week. :( I was so dissapointed, and I still don`t understand why it is so hard to me loosing weight. I did everything, I was 100% Cohen, did a bit of exercise, just didn`t lose weight. That`s all. :smash:

Tomorrow is my week 7 weightins, I`m realy looking forward my numbers...I decided I will be 100% cohen until mid of August, until I`m going for a holiday for 10 days! (of course I will try to stick to my diet during my holiday as much as possible)

But beside these, beside I didn`t lose anything, I recognized some things. For examples: I`m able to take off my denim jeans with undo buttons and zipper, and I feel my wedding ring to big on my finger. And my skin is changing. I always had a very oil face, especially on my forehead, now is almost dry and tense. It`s weird. And unfortunatelly I got a hair lost as well. (should I take any extra vitamins? Can it help?)

I`m trying to think and concentrate to the positive things around me, but sometimes it`s realy hard. Some days I`m happy because I`ve already lost 6 kgs, some days it makes me dissapointed, because it`s just 6 kgs during 6 weeks. Lots of ups and downs..I always tought I`m the person who will lose big numbers, and now, I`m not sure I will lose my excess weight until my birthday. And that`s the hardest one, because after my birthday I would like to remarry to my hubby Down Under, but not as a fat bride, I was that one once and for ever.

week7 - completed

Nothing at all...when I said nothing, I meant NOTHING! No weight loss at all in the last TWO weeks, nothing, not 100g, nothing...0.

Ianina, It may have been that exactly the same thing happened to me but I was not aware of it as I was not weighing every week, only once every 4 as they recommend. You seem worried about it though so ring your consultant plus write down all of your queries & perhaps keep a food diary between now & when you see her next week so that you can go over everything to reassure yourself that you are not doing anything wrong accidentally. As an example my husband was using Chinese 5 spice in my meals & it has gluten filler which I did not know. It did not show as a deviation in my blood test but would possibly have slowed my weight-loss if I had continued to use it. Write everything down & email her if you prefer. Have faith Ianina. If there is something amiss it can be fixed! Cheers, Cate

Cate, since I started this diet I kept a food diary because in that way I can see what I did over the last few weeks. I`ve also showed this diary to my consultant 3 weeks ago, and she didn`t say anything wrong about my eating, so I think I did everything fine. (or she wasn`t that commited to look over it throughly) By the way I`m going to bring with me it to my next appointment and encourage her to look through it.

I`ve already wrote to her an email, about my numbers, about my eating, and about my concerns, so now I`m just waiting for her response....:smash:

I`m also trying to see my monthly results only, but I have to say, regarding to my weekly results, I`m going to close this month with only 1.1kg loss! (which is nothing....)

Ianina, it's a pity that the weight isn't going as fast as you had hoped for. I'm sure you must feel a bit frustrated. But just remember the big picture - it IS going one way or the other, and your body will sort itself out in time.

It's disappointing when we set a goal that we want to lose the weight by, and we realise along the way maybe it won't happen quite that fast for some of us. However, the good thing is that you've taken control of your food intake and your weight, and good things are happening to you, even if more slowly than is ideal.

1.1kg is better off than on your body, so although it's slow, just take it and be glad it's gone forever!

If we weren't doing anything at all about our food intake or weight then we'd have nothing good to look forward to. Even if your wedding anniversary means you are still a bit bigger than you would like, you are going to be heaps smaller than if you hadn't started the journey at all.

You sound like you are doing everything right, keeping the food diary and so on, so you are giving yourself the best chance of success by doing this.
