20to10 - a journey begins with a single step.

Thanks so much chubbygirl. Maybe I could sleep in my shoes, so getting up at 6am is a slight bit easier? :)

Yeah, I know exercise is the key. In my little secret hiding imagination, I think I'll be picked for one of those 'change your life' shows. There's one in Ireland called transformation or something and I'd love to to do though I'd hate the thoughts of everyone seeing me sweat and grunt working out and them seeing what's in my poo especially! Haha.. Anyway, I'm hoping I can suck it up and stop whinging about it and just DO IT!

2 times a day is a lot. Before my (first) wedding, I went to a trainer for 2 months nad worked out 5 days a week, 2 times a day and I definitely got results, but boooyyy did it hurt! Hurting is good, right?

I'm so looking forward to starting TurboJam and I got a few colleagues to agree to do it with me in teh school hall (I'm a teacher) after school so it'll be done and dusted by the time I go home to do homework/dinner/baths/bed!

thanks for saying I'm beautiful. Did you see my album at my FAT FAT pictures? They're motivating, too!

Hey 20to10,
You are doing awesome!! Do you go walking at all. The problem might be lack of some type of activity using the muscles that contribute to u know ... letting you go ... sorry if its to open a forum ..

but I know that if I do not take a walk, I am just screwwed. I need to walk, fast and just free flying... or else I am stuck in no mans land, no matter how much water I drink. But fiber is good. I hope things are getting better, they seem to be. Kettleballs, what are those? never heard of those?

Well, today was the weigh in. There's some good news and some bad news:

Good news: I haven't gained and have stayed the same as the weigh in last week: 94.7kg.

Bad news: I haven't LOST and have stayed the same as the weigh in last week: 94.7kg

So, here are my thoughts on this:

1. I think my scale is broken. :) No, seriously, it's old and probably not working properly so I'm going to get a new one. It weighs different weights depending on where you move it. You should see me moving it around the room to get a better weight! :)

2. I didn't do enough exercise. Not nearly enough. That's the key. When I was younger, before I messed up my body and metabolism by yoyoing up and down the same 60 or so lbs, I could lose just with diet alone. Clearly, that's not the case anymore. I need to just get over myself and shut up and work out.

3. I'm actually going to the doctor today and I'm going to try to figure out why, if I'm eating so much fibre and drinking so much water, I feel so bloated and can't do a poo. I'll also have him weigh me. I'm going to get clearance to do all the working out and training, etc.

4. I've never ever NOT lost an ounce when keeping to a eating regimen. It's kind of shocking actually. I used to sit in the WW line and hear people not lose and the leader would say it could by the TOM or whatever and I always thought, "No, she's probably eating pizza and takeaways and not admitting it to you." Now I know you can eat completely cleanly and still not lose weight!

5. I think the new Biggest Loser competition (if I'm allowed to join the Brown Team) will be good for me to be more accountable. I'll also keep on the weigh yourself everyday club to motivate me to work out.

So, that's about it. Very disappointed with a zero loss this week but at least I didn't gain and I kept to my food regimen. No more excuses with the exercise. I can't wait for my dvds to come!

Natsky, kettlebells are these Russian exercise balls. They look like a cannonball with a handle on top. They're meant to be great for fat burning and muscle building/toning. I've heard good things about them and my trainer said there's a girl he trains who does no other exercise other than kettlebells for 30min 3x/wk and she's lost loads of inches and is getting really fit. So, I'm going to try them! I'm not buying my own until I figure out what weight to get!

So, there it is! My update!

Hey!

Not losing weight does suck, but gaining would definitely be worse!

I read your intro and you sound a lot like me.. ex: gaining weight very fast... I gained 20 pounds in 2 months. I also have the hate-hate relationship with exercise. I don't think I'll ever like it!

I hope you'll be able to join the brown team, I don't see why not! Good luck at next week's weight in!

Oh, and if your scale is crap, get a new one! It's better to just get one and be done with it and know that it's correct.

Thanks, Isabel! I'll be working out this week like a demon to see those numbers drop for next week. I won't let you down!

I'm also thinking I might take a photo of my feet on the scale and photo of myself once a week which I think is very effective when you go back over it when you reach your goal weight.

Yeah, risty, it's not easy. I worked so hard to take it off last time and this time, the same amount of effort is yielding far less results (in terms of the scale). I was at my goal weight for about 5min before I started thinking if I was a thin person then surely I should be able to EAT like a thin person! WRONG!

Onwards and upwards. I have two doctor's appointments today so I'm not going to work so no excuses for not exercising. I don't have the TurboJam dvds yet so I'm going to do the youtube videos for today and see how that goes!

This video is very motivating for me and the weight loss is about what I'd like to lose and she's built a bit like me. I like the music, too. Will watch this a lot! Plus, it's a sense of humour!

ETA: She has a further video in which she talks about how she did it. I do think she's lost way more than I want to lose but she does look great. I looked great when I was her age, too! Getting older is no picnic, let me tell you!

I'm going to the GP in a few min. I'm going to ask him to do some bloodwork so I can get some cold hard facts re: cholesterol, etc...

Also, I need to get him to weigh me and write it down! He's a divel for not taking careful notes. I also need clearance for weight training, etc. He weighs about 100lbs and is over six foot tall so he's not a great person to talk about weight loss, but there ya go.

Now, just to get ready, go, come back, do my exercise vid and then shower. Off to another consultant and then kids, home, homework, dinner, baths, bed! Mommying is hard work.

I'd love to take a year out to just take care of me. After the hellish 2008-2009 I had, I need the break. Maybe when all my medical issues have been resolved (botched surgery) and the whole case is over, I'll take some time out just to ...breathe.

Sticky questions.
Sticky answers.

-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
Exercise 3x/wk, keep to about 1400 or 1500 cals, drink a lot of water, get my head right

-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? Family members, friends, this forum, trainer, my doctor (only a few sessions because it's so dear €€€)

-- When will you start? January 10, 2010

What is your current height and weight? 5'7" and 94.7kg/208.78lbs

If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be? 65kg/143lbs

At what weight would you like to be at four months from now? 78kg/171.19lbs

Why do you want to lose weight? Health, energy, mood. Worried about rapid weight gain last year and a half and excess abdominal fat. Want to look hot!!

Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? I wouldn't mind being very very fit by my 25 yr hs reunion in Summer 2011.

What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals? Don't like to exercise, giving up, making excuses, health, medication I'm on, stress (I'm involved in a legal case for medical negligence following a botched surgery), no time

Why do you think that you now have a weight problem? Because I am so overweight, I'm not in the obese category!

What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight? Consistent exercising, keeping a food journal. Talking to friends about weight and motivation.

Have you lost weight in the past? Have lost about 60-70lbs at least six times in my life.

Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back? I never exercised and went back to eating loads of shite.

What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight?
Being nagged, having no accountability

Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time? Yes, I do on myfitnesdpal.com and on it's iphone app.

Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook? Cook most of my meals at home. Breakfast is Muesli Hi8 cereal, lunch is protein, brown rice and veg, dinner is protein and veg. Fruits, yogurts and nuts as snacks. Also a lot of water! I have to cook a separate dinner for my hub and kids most nights.

How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go? Dine out infrequently these days with the economy the way it is but I can resist when I'm out or plan well.

What are your three favorite foods? McDonalds Fries, creamy gooey cheesy pasta and indian or maybe pizza

What are your three favorite restaurants? Italian, Indian, Mexican

What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food? (1) Plan and shop carefully, (2) Don't overrestrict (3) chew food better.

If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different? I'd be wearing something sexy and tight! I'd feel confident and free to wear what I like instead of what makes me look less fat!

Do you eat when you are not hungry? Not since January 10.

Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)? Yes, I have had a problem with compulsive overeating. I'm on medication for depression which does help that.

Do you hide your food or eat in secret? Yes in the past, usually in my car or in bed when no one can see me.

Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed? All of the above.

Do you eat as a reward? Yes! I used to but not anymore! I've learned it's actually a punisment, not a reward to eat something that is unhealthy for my body.

Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer? No, never have. I'm a focussed eater.

What do you normally eat for a meal? mentioned this before

What type of snacks do you eat? Fruits, yogurts, seeds/nuts, veg sticks, ryvita minis

In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing? Not nearly enough! I have made plans tho.

Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home? So far I've been in my sitting room but I plan to go to a training only gym once a week for a month and then some exercise classes.

What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise? I don't mind boxercise, I think I'd like aquafit, though I've not tried it and I'm hoping to like TurboJam.

What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals? Weight chart, clothing size changes, seeing photos of me smaller. I look at oldl photos of myself a lot and also before and after pictures on youtube. I posted one in my diary today that I find very motivating!

Do you have rewards for certain goals? Yes, for every half stone, a tanning session. For every new clothing size, a new item of clothing (something small). I have all sizes in the wardrobe from size 8 - 22!!

Sorry if this is a personal question, just let me know if you don't want to answer it. You had mentioned about a botched surgery, what happened? Are you ok? I hope it's not too serious of a problem!

Risty: I was given a hysterectomy I did not need at age 39. Also, the surgeon assured me she had taken the necessary precautions to prevent a bleed but she didn't. She lied. I have a rare inherited bleeding disorder which I told her about. I'd had previous surgeries and was fine with the correct preparations in place. The doctor is being investigated by the medical council on 7 separate cases. Hopefully the surgeon will have license removed.

I wound up on a drip for five weeks. Bedbounf for about 9 or 10. Fitness and health went to shit plus I have a range of new and horrible side effects!

So that's the story.

Guess what I did today.

30 min of Gimme Gimme gimme workout video
10 min stretching
60 min aquafit

burned around 600 cals!!

Finally the exercise light has been switched on!!

I wasnt going to write, but I have the cheer you on for doing some exercise!!
Good for you hun.. keep it up!

Natsky
I have started a new diary. But I hope you meet your goals!

I'm so sorry to hear that! That just sounds horrible. People don't listen nowadays, if you told her about your blood disorder, she should have listened. People just think they know better, but sometimes they need to get over themselves and do what's right.

I hope you and all the other cases against her win because someone who is like that should not be practicing.

BTW - Awesome workout!

Thanks so much Natsky! Your encoragement helps a lot!!

Risty: thanks for the understanding! I feel like a superstar after exercising the aquafit really suits me. I'm loving it!!

If you're still on, join me in the chat if you have time! I have it open in a new tab/window so I can still look at diaries, lol.

Down .5kg/1.1lbs since yesterday!

Yesterday, did 10min stretching, 30 min aerobics dvd, 60min aquafit class. About 600cals!

Woooo!

No exercise today. Feeling really low on energy!!!

Didn't eat lunch properly today so I'm actually famished and not in a good way. I'm kind of at the stage where I have to stop myself from eating bread!

I really need a nap, I think. :)

Thanks, Tutti! I'm trying.

I didn't not eat because of calorie cutting. I forgot my lunch. By the time I finished yard duty (I'm a teacher) and my husband brought me my lunch, I had 15 min to eat it before class. So, it was low blood sugar I had, I'd say.

I'm feeling much better now! Thanks!
