Thanks so much Mr. Vee :) I always appreciate your feedback/encouragement since
1- you have been successful and
2- you look strikingly like my husband haha

Chmia thank you so much for the vegan cookbook recommendations and I really appreciate your words here. I think this last attempt at getting it together the natural way will be a true test of how much at peace with myself I really am. Diets always make me feel terrible about myself...even if i consider it a lifestyle change at first. Another thing is I do not really want to tell anyone about what i am doing so far as being vegan but am not sure how to reject the food people are always offering me lol. There are so many people who offer me food and bring me food at work it is ridiculous. In the past when dieting i just told them Oh i am watching what i eat but every time I fail it is so embarrassing that they all know.

totaaly sucking so far this week. lots of social events at work and everyone is buying me food.

This past week has been really nice but not so great diet-wise. Lots of fun though with fun people and I am prone to be a loner so it was a nice change. Only thing that is really strange is people keep telling me I look like I have lost weight (thankfully I have a scale and am in touch with reality :D)and I'm about to buy a stick to beat these dudes off me lol (this is a joke of course I would never beat anyone with a stick). Felt a little like I was in the twilight zone this week because I usually do not take advances well and feel a bit frightened, but no fear this week and I just did not freak out as much as I usually do--well except for when these guys were trying to get me in their car at school but I feel the fear there was warranted. I generally feel odd that my life is like this because I am so fat and I am definitely not a model, so it is an oddity to me. My sister who is thin and a model always used to wonder why men seemed more attracted to me than her. My aunt gave the suggestion that they probably think I am easy because I am fat (hurtful suggestion by the way), and I was thinking this for some time...but then there are the odd times when guys will just tell you they are not trying to get with you but they want to let you know that you are so beautiful, etc. I maybe do not realize if my self esteem is low but I think it is a fair judgment to say that I am not all of that. One of my co-workers was with me for some of the occurrences this week so I felt a little validated. Something about having another woman with you when it is going on like hey this is really happening...I saw that guy checking you out or accosting you. I am usually either by myself, with my son, or out with my husband (although he may have walked away to electronics or the men's section) when guys make advances. I mean my husband is aware of it because sometimes he will come back to where i am if he sees a guy staring at me or coming close -- maybe because he knows I find it disturbing lol, but still it was nice to have my coworker with me. So yeah managed to keep my cool for the most part and continue going on with my daily routine which never happens. I think it may be a part of just accepting that I am who I am and my life is how it is--just like the serenity prayer I will work to change the things I can and try my best to accept and deal with the things I cannot. Weigh in day is Tuesday for me.

Hey Xe

Welcome back!!!

Hi Clarissa, Veronique and Quercus,

Thanks for the encouragement and thanks so much for stopping by

Clarissa, all I did that day was eat a vegan breakfast and lunch and had no alcohol....made a tofu scramble for both breakfast and lunch and if i recall correctly i ate a burger or some ungodly thing for dinner.

Veronique I know first hand that going vegan is not easy so I totally empathise with everything you are saying...especially with thanksgiving coming up.

Quercus thanks again for the support!

Ok guys well first and foremost I apologise for being MIA since my last post. I am a full time student this semester and I have a full time job and the class that started this month has an indescribable amount of frikkin homework, so all of my computer time has been devoted to my homework. I was out of work sick for some days this week so I managed to get a decent amount of homework done between sleeping and hacking up a lung...so this is why I am able to post tonight.

So since I have been gone i did good at first with the no alcohol aspect of the pick ur poison challenge but was eating like a real :piggy: then I started drinking a cocktail almost every night and the combination caused my weight to skyrocket...so the loss on my last post was short lived. I weighed myself at around 11pm on Thursday night because I was feeling SUPER fat and moving was really difficult. I was just so shocked at what I saw...312.6lbs :eek2: RIDICULOUS!!! So I told myself that is it!! I will just have to be vegan come hell or highwater and abstain from alcohol as much as possible. No more than once a week but ideally only on special occasions like thanksgiving or new years eve/day. I have been remaining on a full vegan diet since friday and when i checked the scale this morning i dropped exactly five pounds in one day. I was so shocked so now I am down to 307.6 and I will not weigh myself again until Friday morning, just so I dont become weight obsessed. Also I keep telling myself that i will be mostly vegan so just in case i slip it does not take me three months to get over the failure. That said I am pulling all stops to be as vegan as possible.

With all that being said I had two new dishes today...chesapeake tempeh cakes from Native Sun and Tofurkey frozen pesto pizza. The tempeh cakes were AWESOME....they tasted like conch fritters. The Tofurkey frozen pizza was absolutely delicious...it tasted like a really gourmet frozen pizza. So naturally I started to ponder making a Tofurkey roast for thanksgiving. I was looking into it and about an hour later *gross alert* my stomach was giving me the worst pain ever and after being nauseous and in pain for another hour...I totally vomited so No Tofurkey For Me lol. I actually think I will stay away from the meat subs and just do regular food with beans and bean curd as needed.

anyways that is it for my long update. Going to update the pick ur poison thread and visit diaries :D

Ohhh one more thing...I am also trying to stay away from simple carbs as much as possible so the aim is to exclude them from most of my meals. On Friday I had almost zero simple starches...but I am allowing myself potatoes and rice and the occasional tempeh cake :D

A whole food vegan diet is great. I've been doing terrible with processed food since I started running in the mornings. We are too tired to cook in the evenings. The weighloss has slowed despite hitting calories. I love tempeh. Chia, quinoa, tempeh, tofu, and nutritional yeast are all favorites of my diet. we eat a wide variety of beans, vegetables, and plenty of fruit when we are doing well. If tofurky made you ill you might have a gluten problem. If you eat seitan you'll know for sure as that's wheat gluten. What I found was that when i stuck to being vegan exclusively for a pretty short while that I rarely wanted meat or dairy. I eat wild game more because I enjoy hunting more than because I want to eat meat.

For me eating a mostly vegan diet causes me to eat healthier lower calorie foods. It's also pretty cheap if you don't rely on processed foods.

I hope to see you stay in the single digits until you reach the 200s! You are heading in the right direction.

I did poorly with moderating my alcohol and eventually just gave it up. Hopefully you fare better, but just remember that it isn't food. You don't have to have it and adjusting to not having it was easier than I thought. I'm not suggesting that you should give it up, but keep in mind that it's an option if you find it's hampering you.

Hey Xenon, thought I'd pop into your diary and say hi "waves"

I don't think being strict vegan would work for me, but I have decided to plan one vegetarian meal and one vegan meal a week from now on. I'm a bit lazy when it comes to cutting out meat, but I actually really love vegetarian/vegan food, so thought it would be good to start cooking some of the stuff I love myself. Share any good meal ideas you come across :)

Hey Xe

Glad you are doing well! Just don't give up and you will get to your goal!!! Slow is the way to go to keep it off!!!

Hey everyone quick update and i will be back later to catch up...down to 301.4 so that is -11.2 from since going vegan last friday. :) I think I will be able to stick with it this time...I am thinking of this as a lifestyle change.

Thanks for stopping by!

Hey Quercus,

I never even thought of the gluten problem...I'm not sure if the box said gluten free or not but even the last time i went vegan, I had a gardenburger and I thought i was going to die lol. I have never had quinoa or chia. i was vegetarian and vegan from teen to adolescence but there was not so much popularity around vegan fare at that time. I find the same things as you about going vegan...i do not crave meat or dairy, i do not spend even half as much on food and I eat drastically less and feel satisfied. I was analyzing that today and I wonder if when I eat meat I eat more because i think of the veggies and pasta as sides instead of the main course. I've never had deer but i live in the country now and i actually saw a wild deer for the first time. There is a store down the street that sells wild game and so many hunters around here...all in hunting gear with deer decals on their pick up trucks lol

I'm happy that's working out for you Xenon! You'll be in the 200s soon!
I hope so...just last year I was down to 250 so I still feel at a loss even though I am losing but I am happy to be losing weight. I am sure a large portion of this is water weight so I am anxious to see what the weigh in will look like next week.

Going vegan is definitely not for everyone but I also think if I will be successful at it then anyone can since just a week ago i was woofing down burgers, steak, sausages and chicken wings like some people inhale air lol.

my favorite meals this past week were
eggplant in hot garlic sauce with white rice...i asked the chinese restaurant to make this for me vegan and checked all the ingredients

I also cooked frozen mixed veggies and frozen mushrooms with garlic powder, garlic powder, salt, ketchup, freshly ground black pepper and I boiled some potatoes and mashed them with salt, a tiny bit of olive oil...like 1/2 tsp and garlic powder. It was SOOO good.

Hey Veronique thanks so much! Yes this time i am not so much focused on the amount of time it will take me as I am about eating a vegan diet. I am going to start incorporating more exercise and strength training soon. Maybe even some yoga!
Amazing drop, keep it up :hurray:

Thanks so much Clarissa! I think the number next week will be more realistic. I have been eating less than half of what I used to eat though--and I feel content.

WOW well done!
Thanks so much! This week was a breeze...I just made sure I ate a variety of things and had the occasional vegan cookie when sweet cravings hit.

So this week I lost only .2 lbs :cuss: I attribute that to the alcohol so I am going to challenge myself to stay alcohol free until new years eve :D Still in the 300's ugh
