15 Y/O Wanting to lose some weight and be more fit overall.

So after browsing this site for around a week, I picked up some useful tips, but I am finding it hard to get started. I calculated that I need to eat less than 1900 (or was it 2900? lol) calories per day. I eat a lot of bad food. I wouldn't consider myself fat but I have a lot of it. I am 6 ft 1' and 170-172 lbs and 15 Y/O. Firstly, I am aiming for a slimmer body overall with more arm strength and possibly leg strength. Once I am thinner, I would like to start building my body. I am finding it really hard to eat right. Today, I had a bowl of Crispex cerial with half of a banana cut up and a glass of orange juice. At lunch, I had french onion soup (not healthy at all) and for dinner my mother made some hamburger/pastry meal which I don't think was very healthy but it included cut up cucumbers in vinegar. I am guilty of snacking in between also. I have been trying to eat healthy for the past 2 weeks but it only lasts 2-3 days before going back to my regular routine of fatty foods. I am only aiming for a 5-10 pound weight loss at the moment and then bring it down from there. Also, I read that it would be better to consume 5-6 meals per day but since I attend school during the day I'm not sure how/what I should eat during school between breakfast & lunch. Thanks a lot for your help! :hug2:

It doesn't sound like you need much help. Don't snack on junk.

I underdstand that it's difficult to eat healthy if you live at home and your parents don't buy anything but junk, are your parents aware of your goals?

You're in high school right? It shouln't be overly difficult to bring a peice of friut to class, or a half peanut butter sandwiche, or something like that. 5 or 6 small meals/day doesn't mean real meals. These are little bits of food not quite enough to leave you feeling full... just... not hungry

How tall are you? Your title says 5'8 but you posted that you were 6'1
175lbs for 6'1 is almost... perfect.
