140 days (to a better me)

Day 16 (week 3)

Thanks Karl and Lisa! You guys rock!

It feels go good to be focussed again.

Had a very productive day. Started off with an hour on the treadmill. Not sure what the muscles on the front of the lower leg are called, but the last few days has them aching like buggery!!!

I have eaten extremely well today, but then again food to me is simply that: Food. I eat because I am hungry, and now I have my (boring for some) regular routene of six small meals. I am never hungry :)

Karl, I pulled the old bike (well almost new dispite being over 2 years old) from the garage and gave it a full maintainance checkover. It's all ready to go! In a way, it's kind of good that my 4-wheel drive died (towed it back from the garage today with a cracked head). Now I will be relying on the bike to get around our tiny rural town: Positive use of my time! I even made a holder for my iPhone (for which I downloaded a GPS/Tracker/Speedo). Yet to take it out on my first run, but tomorrow morning might be a good time.

I have a wedding to go to tommorrow. A mate of mine from school is finally tying the knot with his longterm G/F. I am going to try to avoid drinking, but I have a feeling I may be tempted by a glass or two of bubbly. As the food will be a set menu, things should be ok (fingers crossed).

On a side note, We just had wireless installed a few weeks ago and I am enjoying typing away this evening, cosy in bed next to my wife who is doing the exact same thing on her laptop (but a different forum). The wonders of technology! It's my new plan to go to bed a half hour early and update my progress and catch up on the progress of you guys. Going to sleep after reading about the successes of the wonderful people in here is condusive to a positive sleep filled with good vibes!

Hey Paul! BAD about the vehicle's cracked head... good about the BIKE!! Useful time is right! That should make for very good excercise! Good to see you focused again.... hitting the mill, and eating right! Good luck at the wedding... have a few, but don't make it a BENDER! :D Have great ones!!

I know what you mean about feeling good to be focused :) It's such a good feeling to know we're doing something for ourselves.

I'm SO jealous of you though! I want a laptop with wireless SO BAD!! You know how much down time I have at work that I could be pestering the crap out of everyone here?

Paul,

Thought I'd take a gander at your journal. Your past struggle with staying on diet is a very familiar thing with me. A few years ago, I kept telling myself "I'll go on a diet... I can always go on a diet if I gain weight, no big deal". Until one day, I woke up huge, feeling lethargic, weak, and with high blood pressure.

Having said that, I'm glad that you're taking care of this NOW. I know it's far from being easy. If you needed something to add to your determination- think about this: We both only have 20 years of our youth left. After that, it's gone. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts, right?

Sorry to hear about your car. Had car troubles myself recently. Spent a fortune in parts fixing it up. (Upwards of $1,000 bucks) But, with the bike rides around town, you're sure to lose weight. As for Alcohol, you would probably be better off drinking Gin, Rum, Vodka, & Whiskey, if you find yourself in a drinking situation. (They are distilled, and does not have any carb in it, less of an impact that beer has.)

I would suggest that you constantly tell yourself that you're changing your lifestyle, and keep doing it until it becomes a very conscious thing. Good luck this time around!

Aye, that sucks. I've read about treadmills that has shocks built into the track- These bounce up and down as you walk on it- feels like you're walking on soft land. Wonder if that would make a difference for ya. I heard that these are good for the joints.

May not necessarily be shin splints. Do some stretching to see if it helps out, but yeah by all means don't over do it.

I tried running this winter. I'm not ready just yet. I'm still too heavy, my right knee started doing some odd ball stuff from the impact... Its on the shelf for now... Cycling is still up front though!!!

Day 19: Tuesday

Had a couple of days away from the site, but they've been good apart from the night of the wedding. Ate minimally but drank far to much wine. Had an aweful hangover the next day, so it was a bit of a write-off exercise wise.

Yesterday and today have been spot on. Cardio was the treadmill both days, as well as a weights session today. The spare room kitted up with the equipment and the walls plastered with motivational signs/charts is realy doing it for me. I also have speakers for my ipod too, so great ispirational sounds when I work out!

I am aiming for 102kgs by the end of this week which is a chievable if I give 100%

Thanks for the good wishes George! As you will know, I went for white wine (and had far to much) but it was a one off. Back on track now :)

P.S:
On a side note, the legs are fine now. I think it must have been the result of using the muscles I haven't used since before christmas.

Paul,

Glad to hear you're feeling better.
I think it must have been the result of using the muscles I haven't used since before christmas.

Well, no pain, no gain, right? :)

It sounds like you've got a good setup. Pretty soon, I'm going to be getting myself an exercise bike that I can put in front of the TV. I might even consider the possibility of hooking up my computer to the TV and mounting the keyboard at the handlebars. I seem to spend more time on the computer than I do watching TV...

Anyhow, you sound like you're happy with the setup. That should be nice. I do wonder if it would be more "softer" if you put some extra padding under the feet of the treadmill? I do know that after a while, the treadmill can put extra stress on the hip, knee & ankle joints, due to the constant slamming on an angled surface.

As for the wine, I hear ya... I used to party, mostly because I was bored. I'm curious- are you generally bored in the things in your life? Just wondering if that's the source of wanting to have a few drinks to make things more fun...

Hang in there,
Geo

Hey Paul!!! Thanks for dropping by my journal. Read my reply to you... I truly feel you have everything you need to be sucessful!! Just work on the consistancy bud!! Have good ones!!

I haven't been here to visit in a while! Sorry! Hope you're doing well!

Hey I think you might want to go dry, like me, Alta and Melissa. Just sayin......

HUGS!

I agree. There's always herbals. Can't gain weight with that... If you lock up the fridge! LOL

I have a great wife, a dream job and pleanty of spare time. The problem is that I have an addictive nature. I want as much of whatever it is i am getting a buzz off. When it comes to drinking, i don't settle for one or two... I want them all! I attend meetings regularly to deal with this apect of my life, and am coping a lot better, but I can also channel this 'obsessiveness' into positive things, like dieting and exercise. My dietry intake is awesome currently. I do not cheat, and get a buzz out of having that degree of discipline. The same goes for the treadmill, weights and (newly) bike riding. Religious!

This 'all-or-nothing' drive isn't exactly ideal, but I would rather have it focussed on positive things at this point in my life.
