14 year old boy

Hey guys, this is my first post here. I am a 14 year old boy who is 120 lb and 5'7''. My goal right now is really getting my muscles in shape. I have had trouble knowing how to start off. How many reps and sets should I do with what exercise (machine or standard weights). I can do whatever you guys advise because there is a gym locally! Also how many days would I have to visit the gym per week in your plans? Please help me out, thanks.
 
you should probably start lifting weight that is not to hard but not easy. you should not do too many reps unless you are lifting heavy weight. since you need to rest between days you should probably only go to the gym 3-4 days a week.
 
Well as you're just beginning I suspect you will get best results from a 3-day full body workout schedule.

I would recommend Rippetoe's Starting Strength.

Before commencing any weight training however, depending on your current strength and fitness levels I would recommend doing 2-3 weeks of just bodyweight exercises (Push ups, dips, pull ups, squat jumps, bridges etc.) before you start messing around with potentially dangerous weights.

Also get a coach or an experienced person in the gym to show you how to correctly do the more complicated lifts like Barbell Squats and the like, so that you don't hurt yourself.

For someone in your position who is going through puberty you are going to need to make sure you have plenty to eat, I recommend you read this.
