14 i need to lose weight!!

Hello All! :D

I am 14 years old and im 5foot 1inch and i weigh 150pds.. im kind of chubby but i still get made fun of at school and sometimes i just want to cry but i know that that will only make it worse.. im willing to do ANYTHING to lose about 20-30 pds by the end of summer vacation.. which is End of August, 2006. Please don't flame me or get mad that I am 14 because it will only make me more depressed... I just want to know what I need to do to lose weight... i am very sedentary because of depression I only want to sit on the computer because i have no friends and never had a girlfriend.. I just hope i can lose weight so next year at high school i won't be so heavy. :( oops wrong forum :( im not a woman.

im similar to you bro, 15, 5' 8'' so im taller, but stilll 175, and i never hear the end of it since all of my friend are athletes...anyway i would suggest that you make a workout plan to help you out, start lifting weights and eating more protein foods (fish, chicken, or protein shakes) but thats only if your preference is gaining muscle while losing fat, if you want to lose fat only then do much more cardio such as running or swimming since its gunna be summer...i forgot to mention but if you dont have weights push ups and sit ups could do some good, heres wat u can do to make it harder, get something a little heavy and put it on ur chest while doing sit ups, and for push ups pause at the bottom of the movement for about a second then go up, it makes them a lot harder, hope this all helps...

cool now i have a goal while over the summer! but im always embarrased to tell my mom that i need to lose weight so i always try to hide it and exercise and night when everyone is sleeping and ill try to go outside and run with some sweats on :)

if you want to lose fat only then do much more cardio

You need to do strength training to lose fat as well. Muscle burns fat. Sorry but the above information is off.

I hope we can help.

First off and most important at your age is to communicate with your parents. Make sure they are on board to help you. Most kids who are overweight have parents who are overweight so sometimes this makes it really hard as they don't want to chnge their shopping habits. So first thing first talk to them or write them a letter explaining your hurt by your weight, how you want to change it and what kind of things you need in order to do so. Parents respond really well to you helping out as well so tell them in exachange for buying the foods and equiptment you need you will do some more work around the house and learn how to cook some of the food you want. Trust me they will be very happy with that.

You are a growing guy so please understand you need to eat and eat a good amount. Just eat right:). You need to eat 5-6 meals a day. Summer will make it easier since you don't have to try to fit so much around school, however till school gets out take your own lunches and snacks. Every meal you should get one protein and one carb.
Stop drinking any soft drinks, drink water with every meal and inbetween. At least 8 to 10 glasses a day.

Here is a little shopping list to offer to your parents.
-Chicken Breast
-Tuna (fish in general you like)
-Turkey (not processed)
-veggies you like
-Fruits you like
-Oatmeal
-Natural Peanut Butter
-Whole Grain Bread
-Sweet poatoes or White/red potatoes (stay away from russet baked kind)
-egg whites (not egg beaters just egg whites in little cartons)
-Non fat ( Cheese, cottage cheese, Yogurt)
-Almonds

With these items you can make great meals and snacks to help get you started on a good diet.

As far as working out, start easy. Do cardio 4-5 days a week at 25-35 mins a day. And strength training 3 days a week doing full body. You can look around here for routines or even google full body workout and get some ideas of what to put together.

Also whenever you can get out from that computer:) ride a bike, take a walk, play some sports, go swimming, at your age losing weight is so easy i am sure it will drop off by the end of summer if you go at this strong.

well so if i maintain 1500 calories a day... which is sedentary requirements... then if im active ... which require 2000-2500 that means that i will be doing 500-1000 less than i need.. meaning that I will lose 1 pd a week! yay for running! ... omg i just did 20 situps and my stomach hurts.. and i did 5 pushups and my face got red and my arms now hurt :(

Heh, yep, it'll do that -- but KEEP doing it and you'll find that before long it gets easier and easier.

When I was your age, in summer, I would get a HUGE McDonald's cup (the big plastic ones they used to give out sometimes when promoting movies) and fill it to the brim with water

Then in my room, with only the streetlights lighting it, I would do crunches, situps, pushups, dips, etc.

I was about 30 lbs overweight when I started, and pretty unfit (I spent way too much time on the computer too) but after a couple months of doing it, I put on a bunch of muscle, lost a bunch of weight, I could do 60 pushups in a row, 150 situps in a row, 50 dips, etc. etc.

I was doing it for a girl of course, and guess what --- I got her!

Although weight training, in my opinion (and from experience) is not a necessity, I would generally agree with you, except he is 14 years old. At 14 he won't be gaining much muscle.

To the original poster, you sound like you're on your way to your goal.. weigh yourself every other week to check your progress. I was somewhat in your same position and lost 30 pounds by seriously cleaning up my diet and swimming and running. It's definitely not impossible, and in fact, with some willpower, it's relatively easy.

Just don't give up; get all the thoughts out of your mind that you'll have to starve yourself and deprive yourself of any good food, after a while you may learn that you like healthy foods better than junk food (and i mean it!).

And of course if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Well i think that 3 days of full body would be very helpful. I agree at 14 he isn't going to start getting buff, but if not ever done any real lifting, a little base can't hurt and only help the weight loss along. hince why i suggested it.

Still eating too much?

am i still eating too much? here is a pic of my fitday stats
plus i rode my bike for about 35 min at 10-15 mph and it calculated i lost about 200 calories

Ah man just all the wrong kinds of food there. Please understand not trying to be mean but your aren't going to get anywhere with a diet like that. You need way more protein, take the chocalate out of the milk and dear god man step away from the pop tarts ha. Also i assume your day isn't done with eating but if it is then you need more calroies overall as well. I would be starving with eatinging that food cause there is no food in your food.

Look at this meal plan for example...

1-1/2 oatmeal (season for taste) 1 glass skim milk with whey protein
2-Tuna Salad and apple
3-whole grain turkey sandwhich with nonfat yogurt
4-protein shake with 1/4 cup sliced almonds
5-Chicken breast cajun with greens
6-low/nonfat cottage chesse and veggies

Thats tons of food, and all good food. that more of what your meal for a day should look like.

well im nota guy that loves skim milk.. will eating salads work also though? i mean eating only salads? and heaps of water? becuase i don't usually go hungry its just that im bored most tha time..

Well salads aren't much unless you add good protein with them but its your choice to eat right or not. The information has been provided so its your choice to follow it. Its a familar way of attitude and typing you got there.

You need some more protein. Can you get some beef jerky or something to eat? Chicken? Eggs?

I think if you need to add chocolate to drink milk go for it because it's good for you at your age.

Don't eat only salads all day unless you put lots of healthy toppings on them. I'm not sure why people always think that's the way to lose weight. Drinking lots of water is great though.

ok i can relate to this becuase i am 14 as well and i am 5"2" and weigh 141 i also wanan lose all i can say is eat tomatoes , about 60g of carbs and run on the tredmill for 40min workout and eat yogurt and try to eat lots of cauliflower and broccli and definatly you should eat salmon at 5"1" i weighed 161 but becuse of what i was eatting i lost about 20 pounds in 3weeks
