100 pounds lost so far, second attempt at a diary

Major congrats are due just for being able to purchase a medium sweatshirt! It's been a decade since my "larges" didn't have at least one X in front of them, and I haven't seen "Medium" since high school! lol

Great work my friend. You continue to be an inspiration.

Haha thanks :), you're doing great, you'll see larges and mediums soon enough!

Took the past few days off from running since the weather dipped back towards about 5 degrees. Was about 35 today though so I went out biking for a bit, was really feeling it in my thighs. I can't wait until it's nice enough to bike to school again. Been sticking pretty well with my diet though and I weighed in at 195.5 today.

Supposed to be over 45 degrees the next few days and I plan to take advantage of that with my running. Can't wait :D

new song if anyone is interested

It was awesome out today, I got a ride in to school and during some free time took the bus home so I could bike back. So with that I put in about 6 miles biking and I also went for a very fast 2.5 mile run. My coworker that I run with a few times a week set the pace so I just matched him and it worked out. Not sure exactly how fast it was but definitely under 8 minutes a mile.

Feeling very good, set my weight ticker to 195. 15 more pounds until I reach my next goal! Almost flip flop weather, can't wait.

Only thing I'm not looking forward to: I swim in all of my old t-shirts now, I'm going to have to replace just about everything. I've had most of the shirts since mid-high school and I'm a junior in college now, so maybe it's time to replace them anyways.

Goodwill, thrift shops, and other second-hand clothing stores ROCK!

I'm down in the neighborhood of XXL, from 5XL, and I have very little cash, so I LOVE paying under $10 for a shirt or pair of pants. I've even been finding NEW belts, with the tags still attached!

Just need to find a nice jacket now :D

Haha that is a great idea.. I think I may find myself at such a store sometime soon

Sooooo I turned 21 this past Sunday... I spent most of the weekend celebrating, drinking and eating like crap. I shot back up to 200 but today I was finally back down to around where I was last week (weighed in at 194.5 this morning). The weather has been consistently above freezing so I'm back on the running bandwagon again and I've been going biking more too.

Last friday I ran about 2 miles, Monday I ran three miles and biked about 10 miles, yesterday I ran 2.5 miles on my hilly route, and today I ran three miles again. So I'm feeling good. Still not eating as well as I should be but I'm being good for the most part.

Gonna have to throw more biking in to my schedule cause I signed up for a couple races. One on the 27th of this month and another sometime mid-April. Excited for that, last race I did I was still probably around 230 pounds and I managed 4th place. Now that I'm about 35 pounds lighter I'm hoping to come closer to first.

Hope everyone else is doing well. Enjoy the warm[er] weather!

Time for an update!

Well the bike race was last Friday, I ended up coming in 3rd out of about 15 people... I finished only seconds after the people who took first and second so I was very happy. Won $15 for my efforts too! Ha that'll get me far

So that was nice. My running finally picked up again too since the weather has been fantastic. Ran four miles Sunday, 5.25 miles yesterday and I plan on going for another four mile run today. It was hard at first, I thought I'd never get back in to the swing of things. I went out a bunch of times and had to stop running before I even got past two miles cause my legs were so sore, but here I am now! Didn't take too long to get back in but I'm sure happy the awkward starting phase is over with.

With my running though I've put on a bit of weight. I'm guessing that it's muscle mass that I'm regaining since I didn't do a whole lot through the winter and I've still been eating pretty healthy and moderately. Another reason I think it's muscle mass is because my clothes are still getting looser.

Other than that I switched to a vegetarian diet a few weeks ago. I'm still eating cheese and milk, but no chicken, beef, fish, etc... It's been working well for me, I noticed I got a little hungrier after I did this so I've been solving that with more fruits and vegetables. Getting my protein through beans, cottage cheese, pasta and breads.

So yeah... that's about it. Still going strong, hopefully I'll see my goal of 180 over the next few months, but I'm not really concerned with when it happens as long as I'm still moving in the right direction.

Pretty sweet! Remember to learn how your protiens work with the vegetarian diet. If you are including some dairy, I do not think you will be missing any kinds of proteins. but do check on it. My mom went vegan and I worry about her protein intake, because she tends to lack a lot of variety in her preferred foods.

"I just like garbanzo beans. And hummus, too!"
"Mom, you need more than garbanzos to balance the proteins and aminos, otherwise you will be deficient in some of the building blocks."
"I have corn, too!"

*sigh*

Just keep up the good work, building muscle is more important than the number showing, especially if your sizes are going down! :D

Congratulations

hey conkel,
just read your diary and wanted to say that you are such a big inspiration to me considering i'm only on the start of my weight loss journey.

i was shocked to read in your post that you just turned 21! your sooo disciplined with nutrition/exercise at your age! keep up the great work...it makes me feel so encouraged that one day sometime in the future i'll be able to say something like i've lost a third of my weight! all the best:waving:

Qjay: thanks for the advice. I was taking it seriously making sure I was getting enough of everything. After three weeks though I went on vacation and gave it up.. I wasn't planning on doing it more than a month, and I was happy that I had enough self control to do it that long.

cherrygarcia: I'm glad I can be an inspiration to you, with a little hard work and time you'll be able to brag all you want! Good luck!

Finally broke my old distance record and ran 7.25 miles last week. Coupled that with a few shorter runs (three miles or so) and two other runs over five miles. I'm very satisfied right now. As I said though I was on vacation the past five days so I didn't get any running in or eat all that well, but I got back today and my weight was the same which is nice :D

So I went for a 3.75 mile run earlier to start things off a little slow. I felt great; really wanted to go for five or six but I don't want to kill myself my first day running in a week.

After my run I lifted weights for the first time in months.. after I did that I noticed the pullup bar that I had long given up on. Well I decided to give it a try and what do you know, I CAN DO A PULL UP! Not only that, but I could do a few in a row. That was extremely empowering to me, honestly I got shivers.

So.. that's about it. Back to my normal diet, no more veggie, gonna keep on running. Weather is supposed to be rain-free for at least a week so I'm excited!

Also, I'll try to get in to everyone else's diary soon, I've just been so busy.. I know I skip out on it too often :/

Running is going very well. Ran 5.5 miles yesterday and did 5 miles today easily at 9min/mile. Within the next few weeks I plan on making my first attempt at double digits... I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to do it, these longer runs are getting easier and easier. When the season started I was having some slight pain in my knees and hips but that is all pretty much gone. I got a blister on my foot today (old socks!), but other than that I'm perfectly fine.

I was at a party the other night and someone I don't even know came up to me and commented on how much weight I've lost. I thought that was the funniest thing, he told me I looked like a completely new person. Guess that goes to show how much weigh I've lost, even strangers are noticing!

Well... I got there sooner than I thought I would. I came home from class today feeling pretty good and it was nice and cool out so I went for a long run. The total mileage? 10.5

So I finally got in to double digits. It certainly was not the easiest thing I've ever done; there were a lot of moments where I had to encourage myself and say out loud, "I can do it," and what do you know? I did. I have a nice big blister on my right foot as a reminder, and for the first time in a few months I actually feel tired from a run.

I'm happy :)

My goodness! You are incredible!

This is my first time at your journal, but YOU ARE ROCKIN IT!

Where do you run? How do you keep track of your miles ran?

Thanks a lot :), looks like you're halfway to your goal so congratulations to you! Keep up the good work

I have a bunch of loops that I know the distance of around my neighborhood (city/residential, I'm in the capitol of New York), so depending on how I'm feeling I'll start with something short or jump right in to a long run. Pretty often though I'll just run somewhere I don't know, if I do that when I get home I use Google Earth to measure the distance. I think you can do that on their website too, though.

The ironic part about the loop that I ran today is that it used to be my long biking route. I always planned on running further but I never imagined it'd be this far. Like I said in my previous post, I'm happy

Wow, that's really incredible! That's how I measure my bike rides, but I never thought I would use it to measure my runs!

Thanks for the tip! Someday I will get out there in the real world and go for a run!
