100 pounds in 1 year

You are definitely off to a great start and doing all the right things. CHoosing not to have the temptation around was the only way I was able to get started. Now I don't have as much trouble with cravings, but the first 3 days if I didnt leaver all my change and ones at home I wouldve been down to the vending machines at work a few times.

Good luck and its great you have the perfect motivation for getting healthy.

NOTE to self: Quarterly Reminder dates:

3 month = Nov 7th
6 month = Feb 7th
9 month = may 7th
12 month target date = Aug 7th

dunno if 25, 50, 75, and 100 pounds lost will apply....but I am very intersted to see where I am at these dates.

...now back to our show.....

Hey congrats on your choice of giving yourself a healthier life for just not yourself, but for your daughter.

I recently lost my father because of various health issues, one being of the most prominence was how my dad was overweight. I wish he had exercised the initiative to do the same thing for my brother and sister, mom and myself.

Good for you, and good luck on your journey!

hmmm...interesting.

I measured all my food intake today:

I ate six times today. and I wasnt ever really Hungry.......cool.

what's even cooler, When I added up all the calories, it came out to 2440....

...so technically I can eat more if Iwanted to in order to reach my goal of a starting calorie intake of 2500. (I'll see how this goes after I really start exercising and start lifting...Im sure Ill be adjusting the calorie input alot as time goes on).

sweet :)

I went to GNC after work.......got a GNC gold card.:drooling:

went a bit nuts, got the "Mega Men Joint" pill packs, A detox kit (everything for a one week gastro, blood circ, liver, kidney, enzyme, probio, and fiber flush), a bottle of Hoodia (just in case).

what else......

well I officially am on the clock tomorrow. I got my mother interested...very cool:grouphug:

gonna get up at my usual 4:45 or 5:00...gonna walk till the sun comes up.

life is gonna be great from here on out.

PRESEASON STARTS TOMORROW !!!!! :hurray:

The BIG Day...

Well, here it is Thursday, Aug 7th. Happy birthday to your daughter. Just wanted to wish you luck in the coming year. You can definitely do this.

Glad you're not trying to kid yourself out of the occasional slice of pizza. Football season is always a biggy around our house, too! Since, I'm of the "I don't really care about football" opinion, I usually end up chatting and eating. So, here is something I'm going to try this year. I'm gonna make snacky foods like shrimp cocktail instead of nachos, veggie tray instead of chips & dip, and grilled shish-ka-bobs with veggies and various meats instead of burgers. Not that I will cut out the others all together, but just want to give myself more variety. My husband wants to eat better too, so he is all for this... thankfully!!!

Anyway, good luck to you. First day and you already have a 3 pound head start...

Thanks!

Ya I did have three pounds! that was cool!

the 287 weight was Sunday, and 284 this am......so it looks like my body is going through some major changes....lol

all the fresh veggie fiber has made me pretty darn efficient in waste management...if you know what I mean.....

So the major results off the get-go is MOTIVATING AS HELL !!! hehe

Allright allright.........

I guess I better get the questionaire out of the way early in my exorcism.
(( Just to give the demon Fatty fat poo a bit of a scare.....keep the fink on its toes))

Here goes:

How much weight do you want to lose? = 100 pounds

What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight? = 1 year

How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? = diet, exercise, calorie accountability, lifestyle change over a year.

Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? = my family, friends, coworkers, my daughter, and you all !

-- How realistic is your goal? = I think it is very realistic!

-- When will you start? = officially August 7, 2008

What is your current height and weight? = 6'1" 284 lbs

If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be? = 187 pounds

At what weight would you like to be at four months from now? = well three months from now it seems like I sould be in the 25 pound loss area

Why do you want to lose weight? = because I got to the point where I didnt feel healthy, literally. Also my daughter needs a healthy daddy for a long long time. ..... and I'd like women to notice me again, I miss that.

Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event? = sort of....Im aiming for Maiah's fifth birthday

What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals? = this computer is a big one, Im a video game fiend... WoW level 65...(geek!)....also I dont know how much Im going to crave hot wings, fries and beer in the near future...lol

Why do you think that you now have a weight problem? = see previous question :gnorsi: I also technically have a desk job

What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight? = getting out more. I really miss camping..I live in the rocky mountains for petes sake!!

Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight? = I lost a lot in boot camp. I was in pretty good shape from then on until about ten years ago

Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back? = I really didnt lose weight because I told myself I really didnt need to lose weight:confused:

What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work? = splurge exercise stints or crash starvation......

Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time? = hell yes, and I have allready started.

Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook? = I love to cook, Im a pretty damn good one too if I dont say so myself.....the problem is I like to cook large quantities.

How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go? = used to be about 4 days a week for lunch and 2-3 for dinner....now I'm cold turkey. I will allow a weekend outing on my sunday rest day, I leave my wallet at home now when I go to work, so I CANT go out to lunch with the guys

What are your three favorite foods? = mexican & Chinese, sushi, italian ,,,,wait....who am I kidding, I LOVE all food! (except coconut):puke:

What are your three favorite restaurants? = I dont really have favorites....depends on what I feel like.

What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food? = portion!, calorie accountability! and healthy!

If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different? = I would not have a big belly and man-boobs, I wouldnt feel like shi* and have sore bones when shuffling off to the kitchen to make a whole pot of coffee....etc.

Do you eat when you are not hungry? = oh yes

Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)? = I can eat a whole pizza.......with beer......so yes.....been there

Do you hide your food or eat in secret? = no, because I dont have to....and Im big enough, nobody questions me...lol

Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed? = sometimes, those emotions can go either way (eating or starving)

Do you eat as a reward? = isnt eating a reward?:reddevil:

Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer? = Always it seems

What do you normally eat for a meal? = the whole thing

What type of snacks do you eat? = anything within reach (except icky yucky coconut)

In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing? = none before, now I am walking in the am, and doing weights and elliptical in the eve...I also just got a heavy bag:banghead:

Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home? = I have converted my living room into a gym of sorts. I got rid of the couch, and moved the weight bench, elliptical, and heavy bag in.

What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals? = my favorite exercise is the one that I dont have to watch the clock. Thats why I like walking now...listen to audio books and zone off....nice...an hour is gone before I know it

Do you have rewards for certain goals? = 3 months I should lose 25 pounds, Ill reward myself with something...dunno what yet....probably new clothes or man toys

anyway..... Im off to the shower and to bed now....I feel good casue I smacked the heavybag around a bit.....its 9:00pm I usually go to bed early and wake up about quarter to five. I used to be a night owl in my reckless days, now Im definately a morning person.....having a four year old makes a big difference too......I'm a single dad (my ex and I go week to week equal custody) and I have the responsibility to be a good dad, and I will, she deserves it.

*night all.:willy_nilly:

wohho another day has passed, yay for us.

Me being a single parent also, I can totally feel what you are feeling about your little one.
It's not easy but they are the one thing that can pull your thru anything. I am also doing this for my son, I want to be a fun parent, a healthy parent that can show their child a proper way of living life healthy, because we all know the saying " how the parents eat is how the children eat". I refuse to fill my child with filth and allow him to watch me fill myself with filth and reduce my years of living each day by doing so.

I respect you for doing this for your little girl :):):):)

You're doing great keep it up!!!!!!!!!

Glad to see you're off to a good start! Part of my motivation is my little boy and wanting to run and play with him!

We have a lot in common!

Except I love icky yucky coconut!

The year will be over before we know it! I'm off to stomp some pavement.

David

OK...Im a little confused here:ack2:

yesterday morning I weighed in at 284.5, last night it was 282.4

and now this morning the scale shows 278.8.??

( I even changed the batteries...lol...same thing)

Is this normal in the first few days? My chest, waist, and hip measurements are still the same.

Is my body just purging a lot of crap (non intentional pun:angel:) that it has held onto and not needed anymore?

I feel like I have eaten enough, and have had a lot of water.......according to this I have surpassed the recommended 2 pounds a week loss..

...or.....should I just not worry about it and see what happens in the next few days?

Like I said, Im not starving, and I think the intake was pretty good......hmmmmm

anyway, just got back from a 45 minute walk, didnt go an hour cause it started raining pretty hard, and I got a little cold.

Now Im gonna go have oatmeal with raisins, a quarter honeydew, and a cup of skim.....and a coffee (*ahem:willy_nilly:) (( I cant seem to cold turkey the coffee, I get a dull headache...so Im trying to ween off)).

Today is FRIDAY !! !Woot!

It's probably water-weight. My first week I lost 7lbs probably 5 of which were water. Also your weight will likely fluctuate a couple pound up and down depending on how much salt you eat (causes short term water retention) and how much food bulk is...ahem, in-process.

As long as the general trend is down, I'm trying not to obsess about the number. But it's hard to do.

Just shows you everything you are doing is working!

David

there's nothing wrong with drinking coffee - as long as you're accounting in your daily calories whatever you put into your coffee....

though keep in mind that it can have a diuretic effect.. so for each cuppa of brown gold - drink a glass of water...

Ha Ha... You are a scale obsessor my friend. That is exactly what I do, or did, trying to stay off it except once a week now. Your weight can fluctuate during the day, and even a couple pounds from day to day. And "they" do say that you tend to lose weight fastest at the beginning. I know how hard it is, but try to stay off the scale. Since I've only been avoiding the scale for 2 days I know this sounds hypocritical... but I tell you this because I feel your pain. This time the numbers were good for you, but unfortunately, they will not always be what you want them to be. Good luck to you today!

Darn.. After JUST writing to you I had the unbelievable urge to go down and see how my own numbers were! WOW! Not gonna do it, though. I will resist...

Good luck on your goal! A year is a long time, so you'll definitely be able to manage if you stick with it. :D

I'm going to start weighing in once a week. Obsessing over the scale SUCKS...especially when you're a girl and go through "that time of the month"...

Hello Artmonster.

You're doing great!!! It's friday yay.
I also get very tempted to go weight myself a lot, just out of curiousity.
I want to also measure myself but I cant find a tape measure so i will have to go buy one today or tomorrow.

And I totally agree that in the beginning we tend to lose a lot of weight and then it will hault for a while, which will suck but soon enough it will get going again, it has happend to me before years ago when I lost weight.

Good luck eh!! Keep it up!!!

Hey Artmonster,

I feel you on the wanting to weigh yourself everyday. I think as everyone says here your weight fluctuates throughout the day and in order not to get discouraged if I gain a pound or two if I weigh myself in the morning one day, and in the evening another. Its a marathon not a race.

Personally I am going to weigh myself every week and take the results from there instead of micromanaging my weight day to day...the calorie counting is work enough in itself.

But keep up the hard work!

Hey artmonster,

I'm glad to see you're off to a great start. I charted things out for myself too before I started. I was afraid it was going to be all lip service, but I think I might actually be able to follow it! Seems that you are too.

You really cracked me up with your "waste management" comment.

It's been really fun seeing what other people are going through. I can't wait for your positive updates. (not your weight necessarily, but how you're sticking to your program!)
Beautiful kid BTW.
