10 weeks in....the journey so far!!

Hi

As the Christmas period binge pushed me over the edge, I finally decided to do something about my creeping up weight and have been losing weight for 10 weeks now. I have lost 32lbs and it feels amazing. It has not been easy but I have gotten myself into a frame of mind and routine that is really working for me. Losing on average 3lbs per week. My initial weight loss goal was to lose 56lbs so still a long way to go but I know I will get there :).

My diet has completely changed and in the whole 10 weeks I have not eaten sweets, chocolate, crisps, takeaway or drank any alcohol. Like I said... it has not been easy! I would be lying if I said that I do not miss these things because I do! A LOT! But my frame of mind has completely changed and I know to lose the weight that I wish to, I cannot eat these things. I am very strict on myself but need to be, as I am a very much all or nothing kind of person. I also know that by completing removing these from my diet, I am less likely to slip up and have a binge of some sort. I have increased the exercise that I do also, but surprisingly, nothing too extreme. The diet alone appears to be aiding my weight loss, although it is nice to be getting fitter with the small increase in exercise.

I take each day as it comes so that it doesn't feel as daunting and the most important thing is to not let myself get hungry so always have some kind of fruit nearby to snack on.

Will keep you posted of the rest of my progress!

Lisa :)

32 pounds, very nice. Is this your new lifestyle or just for the weight loss portion? People tend to cut out lots of things and lose weight, but once they reach the goal they go back to poor eating habits and balloon back up. We definitely don't want that and I don't think it'd be a bad idea to add some of the things you like back into the diet, in moderation, of course. But you're making great progress, keep it up!

Hey, thank you, I agree with all of that :). I think soon I will start introducing some things back into my diet, and probably increase my exercise to have a nice balance. I think my lifestyle will change as a result of this too as I'm really enjoying getting into running so I really hope I don't put the weight back on easily!

Hi Lisa & welcome to the forum. WOW! You have done so well, by making healthy choices. 24lbs to go & 32 lost already, in only 10 weeks? Excellent! If you are coping well with- "I have not eaten sweets, chocolate, crisps, takeaway or drank any alcohol." in those 10 weeks, I would highly recommend sticking with that until you reach your goal. The longer you leave them out of your everyday diet, the less you'll miss them. Introducing any of these things will slow your weight-loss down considerably. I gave up eating many things, including bread, rice, starchy veg(on a very strict diet) for 6 months & then gradually reintroduced them & soon discovered which foods my body could tolerate without packing on weight. The longer you leave them out the more you are training your brain to learn to live without rubbish. Unless you want to slow your progress down I would continue to do exactly what you are doing now. I now have a treats platter on a Sunday night & enjoy a little dark chocolate & other goodies, but I don't have them every day.
Well done on what you have achieved so far. I look forward to following your progress. Cheers, Cate

Hi Cate, thank you so much for your comments I really appreciate them! I am torn between being carrying on being strict and introducing certain things back into my diet. I can't seem to let myself eat the foods I have cut out for now as I feel nowhere near my target weight. I think I will take your advice and carry on the way I am, as it is working and then perhaps as I approach my target weight I can ease up on my strict diet.

Thanks :)

Lost two pounds this week, obviously happy to have lost but not my usual three pounds. I think I didn't do enough exercise this week as only went for a run once. Hopefully will go more next week and be back to losing three pounds. That's the target anyway!

Hi Lisa, I'm an all or nothing girl too & that's the only way I got to lose the 36kg I needed to. It will really vary how much you lose each week so don't worry too much(easier said than done I know!) Re: exercise- add little things each day to increase your exercise. Just taking the stairs more, or parking your car a bit further away, dancing while you do housework etc makes a difference. It all adds up.
34lbs down & well on the way to goal :D Cheers, Cate.

So this week I lost three pounds again :) really surprised as working away which meant making salads for lunch at work wasn't possible! Went for a run twice this week. Again, not anything too strenuous. Total weight loss of 37lbs in 12 weeks :).

Haven't posted for a few weeks, but thought I'd post the latest figures!

Total weight loss now stands at: 45lbs
Length of time losing weight: 4 months

Thanks for the update Red. Well done on the continued weight-loss! Only 11lbs to go, by my reckoning. That's excellent :D

Hey, never posted when I hit target but wanted to let everybody know that I hit target a couple of months ago! (Lost 56 pounds altogether). I have maintained since then. It has been hard as quite stressful times lately but I find that as long as I am exercising I do not have to be so strict when eating. I am hoping to lose a little more (14 pounds or so) but I'm happy at the moment and just need to pick a time when I am not as stressed and can focus on losing that final amount! :)

Hey Red! :D Congratulations & thank you very much for letting us know. Maintenance can be a minefield & I'm sure most people would love to know that it's doable. Hope your stress disappears sweets xo Cate
