how long can you do the plank?

hey,
I'm 14 and i was jsut doing the plank after my core session, and i was just wondering how long you guys/ gals can do the plank. I just did it for 5 minutes after a hlaf hour session and then for a further 2 minutes after a minute rest. Is this any good or should I do it for longer?
:p

my recors is 4 minutes and that was last year
this year I could probably do it all day, except my belly will be touching. LOL

OH, and I am 41. I will have my 14 year old do one for you tonight and report back.

BUT-- THAT IS A GOOD PLANK BRO! nice job

That is pretty good! Now try some different core exercises that might be a bit more challenging. You could do plank knee touches for the 5 minutes instead. Make sure you keep good form though!

the question was, what can YOU DO~! posts like this always bug me :violent:

5 minutes is darn good, but this is easier for slender folks, especially teenagers. How much do you weigh?

I can go 2 - 3 minutes max. But I'm old.

Plank

5 mins is my best on an inverted bosco ball for extra balance work. Try alternate leg raises from the plank position and side planks. Our Friday challenge was 60 mins over a 24 hr period.

By the way World B 60 as of Sept3.

you are going to be 60? years of age?

I never went for a world record plank lol, so honestly I have no clue. Without training beforehand, I wouldn't even guess more than 2 minutes, but I'll have to see. Other than moral victory, why are you doing this? lol

I hold the plank position every day -- I have actually started having all of my classes do it as well!! In class we hold regular plank for 1 minute in the beginning of class, and then at the end we do 30 seconds plank, 30 seconds side plank, 15 seconds plank, 30 seconds other side plank, 15 seconds plank for a total of 2 minutes. On my own at home I usually do that later at least once a day - sometimes holding each position a little longer.

Stacey Lei Krauss of Willpower & Grace has started a "world plank" campaign -- check it out....

Blindside -- if you are holding it for that long...make sure you are using perfect form! Sometimes it is easier to hold it longer if you are not aligned ;) Keep up the great work!!

Not sure how long, but it feels like I could do it for a long time. So I started doing single leg lifts while I was in the plank position and would alternate till I was tired. :D

Here's a little something that I do and Im sure that it would help improve your health and fitness tone and body.
Here it is:

Dont slow down, just set your mind to it, move forward and in time you'll see yourself in a better shape. Personally, from my own experience, seeing myself toner only gives me more encouragement to keep moving forward.

With Best of Hope,
Rusty

Most experts agree that a healthy person can hold a plank for at least two minutes.

Reiterating two things that have already been stated before:

1. Fitness is really a subjective deal (you against your old self), and therefore goal setting is limitless. If you can hold a plank for 100 hours, why wouldn't you try for 101?

2. All body weight exercises, including planks, do favor people who weigh less.

My personal best is 2:45. Today I did 2:04. I usually do the plank exercise 5-6 times a week.
p.s. I am 66.
