Looking for Advice/Opinions

so, before i started worrying about exercise, i was around 140 lbs and lean. but after a career change, i gained like 40lbs in a little over a year. when i noticed this i started doing some free weight routines (which i only started a couple months ago) and i've tried to keep a day or two of running for cardio. my goal is to keep most of the bulk but to be tone/lean without returning to the 140lb weight. friends and family say i look healthier since the weight gain, but i'm not happy with where it went (core/stomach), lol.

any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated..

Start with looking at your diet. A clean diet will take you a long way. Then you may want to look at what you are doing in your routine. Make sure you are covering your entire body and keeping your routine balanced.

If you could post some specifics ( what you are eating daily, what you do for workouts) maybe we could help you more.....

Co-sign on posting specifics for help.

That aside, do 3 things, in this order.

1) Fix your diet (eat clean and track your calories)
2) Find a good routine (check out weight training stickies)
3) Get enough rest

That is all.

Just keep up with your cardio and weight training. It's a slow process but you should start to see results as long as your diet is good as well!

How did you gain 40 pounds in a year? I couldn't gain 40 pounds in five years.

Yeah, that was a helpful comment. Good job.
