Acai Berry & Colon Cleanse; the new gimmick!

I'm seeing it all over the Internet, just about every weight-loss story that appears as being "news" of an article all leads to the same essentialy advertisement for Acai Berry and Colon Cleanse. The last "article" I read had some woman claiming she lost 47 pounds in just 2 months.

Okay...let's see now, 47 pounds x 3,500 calories is 164,500 calories over 60 days is a deficit of 2,741 calories per day, and since this woman's BMR is probably about 1,900....that would mean she QUACK QUACK QUACK!!!!!!!

Gimme a break: you wanna lose weight or do ya wanna lose fat? I've known lots of people who cut-down, cut-back, go on cleanses & liquid diets....alll to just reinflate in the days following the end of their "diet". I don't care how you cut it, the nasty-heavy-thick-rubbery FAT will only go away when it's burned off the body the old fashioned hard-work way.

I'm just putting this out there because for those of us who bust our butts, eat a well-balanced diet and do it the right way....it's very discouraging to hear & read about these kind of results & claims. I'm sure the Gazillion antioxidants in the acai berry are potent and eating cups of fiber and stool-softener helps the intesintal tract...but come on, these kind of claims and gorilla marketing is just plain wrong.

The sad part is people actually buy into this shyt and spend useless dollars on something that's going to get their hopes up only to let them down.

The manufacturers are making a killing though.

Seems odd that someone would want to do a colon cleanse for any reason other than preparation for a colonoscopy screening for polyps or colon cancer.

People want Acai berry because its exotic. It is a very antioxidant and nutrient rich fruit. Key word; fruit. But no one here is eating the fruit. What they don't realize is that because it is impossible to get the actual fruit in America (its only grown in Brazil and does not survive transportation at all, gets all mushy) and all you find here is either Acai juice or Acai in powdered/pill form, they are not getting the full effect. Either you're drinking fruit juice, which is pretty much the sugary part and you're not getting most of the nutritious benefits that they're talking about, that would reside mainly in the pulp, or you're buying some scam diet pill that probably has about as much Acai in it as it they need to put the name on it and not enough to be healthy.

As for colon cleanse, people like that they lose 5 pounds in the first week. What they usually don't realize is that's 5 pounds of McDonald's burgers that never dissolved over the years just getting shoved out the back door, not fat loss.... The next time you eat you're just putting stuff right back in your intestines. :p

Yep, and guess who's selling-out big time on this whole sham:

Oprah
Rachel Ray
Dr. Oz

If by Dr. Oz, you mean one of the doctors on realage.com , it is interesting to note that the web site has some contradictory messages about acai berries and their antioxidants:

-- basically says how great acai is
-- basically says that acai is too expensive and the coffee(!) is a better source of antioxidants than acai.

That pretty much sums it up. Every year they discover a new fungus, mold, algae or some other exotic fruit that grows in some obscure & remote region of the world...each substance containing a higher and greater potency gazillion antioxidants. FACT: the Acai' berry is so powerful that it can disarm free-radicals within a range of 500-feet from anyone who consumes it and, like radio-activity, it can continue for years! :action12:

Yeah...I've read stories about how cleanses will remove crayon we ate while in Kindergarten and, like an old sewage line, stuff will come out that we've been supposedly carrying for decades. I've read a 24-hour fast will pretty much do the same thing, that and a lot of fiber. It's all a hoax. Like Red-P pointed out, you're losing "weight", but it's not fat; the most you might expect is a bit less swelling in the lower abdominal region...LOL: but now that you've removed that sediment from your intestine, you'll absorb more calories from food and get fatter!!!! ;)

It just bothers me that these heavy-weights of reputation (Oprah, Rachel, Dr.Oz) are getting behind this scam.

Colon Cleanse

colon cleanse is the one n best way on which you have to go if u are searching for best product to reduce weight. No need to go from piller to post just go for colon cleanse.

You would think years & years of Oprah doing these fad diets & losing tons of weight then gaining it back in a matter of months would smarten her up to these ridiculous diets.

weight loss

If you are looking for a kick to all for your well-being, a product like the acai berry can help you even in a small surcharge.

No...I'm sorry, that's a bunch of BS

I drink those Acai' berry drinks, eat dark chocolate, pomegranate juice....and all those other mega-gazillion antioxidant superfoods...and the difference is NOTHING!!!!!! NOT A DAMN THING

It's nothing more then a marketing gimmick with the typical claims that can't be substantiated or proven. Every couples years they discover some new substance...from the depths of the ocean, dark caves in the hills or high atop tree-tops in the jungle. Maybe it's a fungus, coral, mold, berry or bat dung. It doesn't matter, they package it, set-up a multi-tiered sales pyramid and pitch their miracle product to the world.

Don't

Don't believe the hype! :cheeky2:

There are only these miracle products for tissue loss/tissue gain:

1. The almighty, most powerful calorie.

2. Macro-nutrients: atrocious and vigorous when manipulated.

3. Understanding some human physiological/biological processes, learning how to manipulate these through dietary habits, exercise, other means, and adapting to one's bodily feedback, using 1, 2, and 3.

Case closed. ;)

Hey, BSL, sup! :)

Chillen

Acai Berry is Best.

Before using Acai Berry I didn't believe that but after using it I recommend to others. Acai Berry is really a wonderful fruit and today many people are using it.

i have to agree with BSL, RedPanda, and Chillen on this one.

Cleanse at most will lose 5 lbs.

The Acai crap is just a stupid pyramid like Avon. It's all BS.

If someone wants to lose weight and do it right all you have to do is eat right and get your butt moving. :animal3: Don't believe any of the stupid fads out there.

Be it known that one Acai berry can be replaced in about every way with a few of the much cheaper, locally found fruit: the blueberry. Yum! :D

That way you are eating a FRUIT (getting the pulp, the skin, all the nutrients) instead of likely just drinking a JUICE (sugar, some flavor, and sugar).

Acai is just another berry, I was in Brazil and they're everywhere. I live in Thailand and there's tons of fruit here which could be sold in the West as "Miracle cure for your fat asses"

The fact is, slick marketing will always win over stupid (fat & desperate) consumers.

The actual acai juice and pulp is much healthier for you than the supplements are.

Oh, well....these single-post forum members make a compelling arguement and given their strong credentials we should certainly accept what they have to say. Thanks to the acai berry & colon cleanse we can now pound the trans-fat, gobble slices of greasy pizza and use the FOUR C's as our new food pyramid: Coke, Candy, Cookies & Cake. No matter how much we eat or what we eat, the Acai' berry will save us from metabolic catastrophe!

I mean...why buy fresh berries at the store for a couple bucks and get all that wholesome fiber, vitamins, nutrients and what-not.....when for $24 you can buy a bottle of Mona Vie SUPER Antioxidant drink and cure all our ailments.

Scamming people on health products is just one step down from defrauding old people out of their life savings. Lillian is right; any berry will more then do the same thing. Dried plums (prunes) are loaded with everything!

Too many fads around, but you I feel sorry for people that just go for the easy option.

a couple of pills arn't going to make/help you lose the extra weight unless its accompanied by hard work, healthy & clean cut diet..and by the time you have done the previous two things you may as well have just left the pills on the quick buy rack at the shops.

Acai Berry does have postive effects. Myself and some colleagues have used it before and certainly the "larger" members of the group have seen very positive effects.
