Weight Loss Plan

Hi, I had a couple questions.

I am trying to lose weight, I am eating a very healthy diet.

I got a treadmill, but I hate to run, but I love to walk. So what I noticed today is that I would usually run at a speed of 3.7, and I can walk at that spead too, and enjoy it. I was wondering if I am doing my body just as good by walking that fast instead of running it? What makes running better then a fast walk? Is it the motions? Yes, I know any exercise is good, but what makes running better?

You should run at 5 miles an hour because that is a minimum speed you should use. Also eating health doesn't mean you are eating "fit". Healthy diets can make you soft. Fit diets are not necessarily healthy but they help you burn more fat and get lean.

...what?

H,

Work = force x distance
Power = work / time = force x distance / time

So to answer your question, more power, given a constant velocity (like 3.7 mph), can only be achieved by increasing force. Running would increase the force slightly, but typically the only way to increase force for forward moment at constant velocity is to add drag (like a parachute or by pushing/pulling a weight sled or prowler). In simpler terms, walking at the same speed that you would hate to run at is fine.

Post up your complete training program as well as a diet. I'll look it over and see if there is anything we can do to optimize your results.

That...is a very poor explanation. :action11:

For the OP, I'd keep track of your heartrate while you're walking on the treadmill. I think how hard your heart is working is more important than the specific speed you're moving. If your heartbeat is in a good range for building cardio, then super. Lots of people walk quickly as opposed to running. Running can be much harsher on your body than walking. Much better for the knees, at the very least.
