any ideas experianced guys?.....military press

iv been trying to increase my military for a while using different training methods but im having some trouble getting it up.
what have you done to get strong shoulders?
looking for ideas to change it up.

thanks

that military press uses alot of your resources in "steadying the weight" PB.

are you doing any shrugs? developing trapazoid, and your grip?

with those things stable you can "focus" on the press

make sure you are doing some standing up too, then you will feel it in yoru core.

it is a shoulder "primary" excercise, but alot involved- you know how it just feels "unstable".

throw in some clean and jerks too--- that a real press.

What everyone else listed but also remember to stretch out a lot. A really difficult yoga pose is downward facing dog for shoulder. It's both a stretch and static shoulder workout. One of the most basic and fundamental position in yoga but the best as well; just like the squat. Start and end your shoulder routine with that pose and try to hold it there for 30 seconds to a minute. Being in HS sucks b/c the other guys will say that you are gay and what-not but it's great pose so maybe do it at home.

downward facing dog is primarily a hamstring stretch. and a good one for sure

depends on what YOUR definition for that stretch is. Some see it as a lower extremity stretch while others see it as an upper extremity stretch. since the person was looking for an upper body stretch, I'd go with the latter.

There's a lot of synergistic muscles at work during the military press. Lats and traps are to name a few. Personally, I've seen great lat development during military press-like exercises...stablizes the humerous. If any of the synergistic muscles are tight, performance during this exercise will be poor.

Snatches and clean & jerk are golden for shoulders. I mean the end of the jerk is practically an military press but your catching the weight up high. Dumbbell wise, iv had success with the arnold press(must keep good form)

It's also a shoulder stretch if you chose to engage the upper body muscle; tricep and shoulder as well. If you try to push the shoulder away from the ear.

Oh, another idea PB. Try to do handstand pushups. They are just ridiculuosly difficult. Initially do it with the wall to help you balance but eventually, you should be able to do it with. Try a little gynmastics as well. Have you seen the male gynmast's shoulder? Wow.

Just a quick question shrugs which may benefit others. Is it essential to use very heavy weights when doing shrugs?
