Leaning out for "competition"??

So I'm approaching vacation and I made a friendly bet a year ago that I would have better abs than my cousin this year. I'm basically a week and a half out and have a decent 4 pack, but definitely not the 6 pack I was shooting for (what can I say? I slacked).

I plan to step up my cardio, continue training and focus on my diet, but are there any tips or pointers to “lean out” for period of time, such as limiting sodium, carbs, etc? Any good ways to lose as much water weight as possible to get a bit more definition?

I could always turn to Preparation H! :)

I think a keto diet might be what you're looking for...I don't know a whole lot about them, but have heard them discussed on this board as a good way to finish up those last stubborn pounds at the end of a cut. I'm sure someone will chime in here shortly!

Just do a one week v diet. You'll probably lose 10 lbs, of which 7 or so will be water weight, if you don't supplement your electrolyte intake. So yes to low carbs and low sodium. I mean if you must. I personally keep my electrolytes up so I don't lose all my energy/die of dehydration.

And right before go time, hit up the sauna in a rubber suit, then discretely oil yourself up. Remember, one stroke is a shine, two or more strokes makes you look like Jean Chretien.

Dropping water weight, but putting enough water back in to make your muscles full is a science in itself.. I've got a way, but it involves aldosterone :D

Lol, I was gonna say, but I already feel like a bad influence. :yelrotflmao:

Hey Ian, if you do the rubber suit thing, make sure you tell me about it, it'll make my day. :D

So should I avoid carbs and sodium for a few days? weeks?

Also, would it be beneficial to have carbs the day of and get in a work out to take advantange of a pump? or just avoid carbs all together until after the fact?? I'm really not concerned (at this point) about keeping really lean for a LONG period of time, just a day or so :)

Any input on diuretics? waste of time? or will the help to keep lean for a bit??

(I feel like such a faker trying to get lean for this ****, I should have just worked harder through out the year!)

I would say for a few days before, then hit the sauna, then carb up for some fearsome pumpitude just before (an hour or two'ish??). Not a lot of food, just a lot of carbage. I'm talking a bottle of mountain dew.

P.S. I have zero experience with this, so everything I'm saying is guesswork. :p

They work, yeah. If you want to risk stacking the lowered sodium intake, extra sweating, and diuretics... seems kind of extreme, though.

Brilliant deduction, Holmes.
