Anti-Spam Solution needed

As I posted in the lounge, an anti-spam solution is needed

I'm sure there are VB hacks for stuff like preventing spammers or people with few posts, posting urls. This would be handy as the guy registering to make one post about his "magical product" before disappearing would not be able to do so.

if a spam post is "reported" does someone actually get the message, or is that one of those things that just gets lost in the wind?

I see the mods come thru and "clean up" when the forum suddenly gets hit with spam, is that just because they find it like everyone else, or because of reporting the posts as well?

I have just never used the "report post" and was wondering if it would be helpful....

I don't know about the setup here but on some sites there is an actual report spam button as the report post is for reporting serious issues like fighting etc

I'm not particularly fond of the long, "sell" spams that end up repeated in every category...big eye sore....

That would be useful if they could set up a specific link for just reporting spam. SPam is an eye sore.....I get sick of wasting time combing thru spam trying to find a real post....

reported posts gets seen by admins and moderators. I even think admins and mods get an email when someone reports a post, but I'm not sure about that. I do know they see it though.

Admins and mods all get emails about reported posts. There is also a section that contains all reported posts.

Spam is part of life on the internet, it advances everyday is like terminal cancer. We will never stop it.

These PT who sign up just to dig up old threads and advertise themselves are annoying. Here is clauber.cftatgma in action.

Perhaps the best ting to do with spam is :-

- the mods delete it
- people stop responding/making comments as the spammer is long gone and the thread is pushed up the list making the thread viewable by more people.

Yeah, if you see a post that is spam, just report it and you could also reply with "reported" just to let other people know that it has been reported so we don't get like 10 reports from the same post. After that, there is no point in replying to it, as Tribal says.

Thanks Karky for the suggestion! I have reported what I believed was spam once, but didn't know how to respond to it. On another one, I explained I didn't want to know more about the *super* ingredient this person was saying would help me & why, but on another just left it blank. Now I know what to do. I HATE SPAM :violent2:
