Number of reps in pushups

I was reading some health mags abt guys doing 100 - 200 pushups and situps....was just wondering if these are done in one go or if the guys add up their rep from 2 - 3 sets

^^^ I agree, why do you ask this particular question? In some cases, high endurance fitness training is important (i.e. Military basic, etc), and other forms of fitness quests. What are your particular goals? If you are just a tad more specific, we can help you much more.

EDIT: But, to answer your question, some persons can do 100+ pushups in one set, and some can do 200 or more situps in one set. I fall in this category. I changed my fitness program in the fall to adapt to the type of expectations the the police academy was going to demand, and this was high endurance (or high repetitions in pushups, situps, etc), that my training at the time would NOT have given me unless I changed the approach method. I say this because there is, sometimes, a need for high endurance approach. However, do not go thinking that high endurance reps will bring out the abs more, because in simple terms, this isnt the truth.

i am sorry i was vague the first time round.....I am trying to tone up and was referring to the pushups regarding that....I can do 60 pushups in a go and i usually do 3 sets of the same (well, the last set usually ends up in the 40s)....i have tried doing pushups with weights as well (like 15 - 25 lbs), hitting a max of 40 per set.....

what would you advice to be better toned....with weights or without???...also i wanted to know some exercises that would help me better define the upper chest (i know a lot depends on the genes, but what could i do from my side)...

thanks guys

Well I would suggest that you do push ups variations, it sounds like you have a decent base.

Try stuff like this

In regards to your chest I would really suggest getting a set of rings!! They are great for so many things.

Here is a great chest exercise on rings:

Good luck with your training.
