The Interviews Thread

Evo sounds like an awesome gym teacher! I mean, playing dodge ball wasn't bad in my HS days, but we never got much action in the weight room, and our teacher didn't know the difference between his dick and a dumbbell.

In elementary school did you have the dreaded "square dance" day? Oh, the humanity

Overhead squats with the bar are good for seeing if any imbalances are creeping up.
This stood out most of all to me Evo, could you expand on it a little? How can you spot imbalances from overhead squats? Is it simply because you'll fall over if there's an imbalance or does it make problems more obvious?

Yeah, same here, we had a ton of gymnastics equipment but I didn't get to use any of it for the whole 7 years I was there. I did get to use weight machines once, and I mean literally once in 7 years

Yep, that's about the same for me. And when we did get to use the weights room, nobody knew what the hell they were doing, and the teacher sure as hell didn't.

Keep in mind that this is what has worked for me. Other coaches will have other methods and there are always disagreements. Anyway, from the overhead squat, you can easily see if the heels are coming to perhaps illustrate hamstring inflexibility, they may have problems flexibility or strength issues in the shoulders or triceps. Too much of a forward lean could indicate an issue with the posterior chain. These are just a few examples. I've just found the overhead squat as a starter brings out these issues quickly and then you can take it from there.

I know other exercises will bring out weaknesses, but I like the overhead squat because it brings out the weaknesses through most of the body in one movement.

:yelrotflmao: In Junior High we(the guys) had a choice for half a semester of PE...you could take square dancing or wrestling. The dudes that picked square dancing might as well have worn a 'kick me' sign on their back for the rest of the year.

And Evo, I am in agreement with everyone else in wishing I had a PE teacher like you. Hell, I'd give my left arm if the school my kids attend got a decent gym teacher or coach.

Nowadays it's like "Kid's here's your PE teacher" and out walks the 300 lb 60 year old guy that also teaches Latin at the school.

This should be interesting, I've come into work this morning to find FF has PM'd me questions for an interview of my own. I'll work on those today as well as an interview for Chillen.

No wonder my company want to fire me :yelrotflmao:

LOL, My health teacher in HS probably was closer to 400 lbs...female

wow! That was fun. I got up early Sunday morning and let the questions fly. Other than the ones you wused out on, you did great. Thanks for letting me play/ ;) It was soooo fun.

an a quick note.... Lei- if I would of used an emoticon with my comment in "where's PB" thread, he'd love me instead of you! hehehehehehehe.

AND here it is- CCR! purely an example that the interviews quality is a reflection of the interviewer! hehjehehe HERE's a great one! :)

Being from over the pond, what is the single most attractive thing about America:
For me it’s your comedy. If it weren’t for your comedy shows most countries would probably hate America, I say this because your other main exports here have been things like Jerry Springer, Oprah and McDonalds. Nobody celebrates trash like America. Your politicians also speak in such an aggressive flag waving manner that it looks like the US takes itself far too seriously.
But then the Simpsons comes on and pokes fun at all that stuff and it provides the balance in culture that the US needs, like a Ying and Yang type deal. Chris Rock is awesome too, I wanted to see him over here this year but he was selling out venues in hours. You can tell a lot about people by what makes them laugh and apart from the dire generic crap like Friends, you come out with golden nuggets like ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’

The least attractive?
Hmm, I think the US has a collective persecution complex which leaves them unable to take part in the banter that other nations have. It’s an unwritten law that no negative comment can ever be made about America in a forum, even as a joke. The punishment for this is a hundred Americans start posting about everyone else being jealous of them, the constitution, saving yo’ ass in WW2 and blah, blah, blah.

Whereas if you take the UK and Australia, we could take the piss out of them all day and they wouldn’t be bothered; they’d just take the piss back and we’d laugh along as well. It leads to strong rivalry but also a close bond too.

When you workout do you use cardio to work up a sweat first? Why or why not?
No, my goal when I started train about 18 months ago was to gain strength and size - fast and cardio isn’t great for building muscle. Plus, if I were to do cardio I’d do it at the end. Why tire yourself before you lift?

When was the last time you were completely drenched with sweat (your own)?
This morning. It doesn’t matter if you’re running a mile or squatting heavy, if you’re honestly busting a gut to give your all then you’re gonna sweat a lot. No matter what your training style, if you’re not sweating through your clothes then you get no respect from me

Also, I’m still 230lbs so I sweat pretty easy anyway ;)

Have you ever had another's sweat get in your mouth? Enought to really taste it? Males? Females? How?
I really can’t answer that

You pay very close attanction to the "people" on this board, what have you found to be a common charactoristics of those you see make good progress?
1) They train their legs as hard as their upper body
2) They train consistently over time
3) They’re all far too attractive for their own good ;)

How much time do you spend on the board, and do you struggle with board addictions?
I’m logged on for 8 hours a day while at work but I just look every now and again when I have nothing else to do. I only ever post on this board so I doubt I’m addicted, in truth, I hate the internet and technology as a whole which makes it a shame I ended up as manager of a website. In an ideal world I’d be on my own island hunting for food and making fires

What are your top 3 favorite sports?

1) Football (Soccer)
2) There are no other sports

Tell us about the best time you have ever had.
Holy crap, that probably wouldn’t be safe for the forum and I can think of at least 3 criminal offenses in there.
All the good times that were legal have come with my family. My daughter puts her wedding dress on everyday to marry me and we have the wedding dance in the kitchen. I love doing that

Tell us the top 5 things you would like to do in the next year.
1) Hold my new baby this summer
2) Get below 15% body fat
3) Squat over 400lbs
4) Get a new job
5) Reduce debts

Tell us about the 2 things you would love to do before you die. Something that would take over a year from now to do. YOU KNOW! MAJOR GOALS.
Damn, you might have got me there, I try not to think too far in the future. I’m only really thinking about today right now
I would like to compete in a strength sport at some point in the future but I don’t know which one or when yet. I’m going to get my body composition in check first and then hit a 100% clean bulk. The mistake I made when I started training was to just hit calories hard and not train that well. I recruited Tony to sort out my training and now it’s my job to deal with the diet. Once that’s in order I’ll start to get the lbs back on as muscle and start thinking about strongman events
I’d also like for my kids to think I couldn’t have been any better as a father. Being a dad is the only thing that holds any real importance to me, I could drop training tomorrow and not be bothered about it but I couldn’t not be a dad, it’s what I was born to do

AT the gym, do you have a tendency to watch the girls or boys? Do you offer advise to people in person on form and such?
I watch the girls but I can’t comment on what I see ;)
I generally don’t offer advice unless it’s asked, so many people use awful form that I’d never have time to lift myself

When you post, who do you hope is reading your impressive workouts, and who's comment make you jump inside? Who's make you worry?
I just hope someone/anyone is. Of course I need Tony to read them as he’s my trainer but he’s paid to so I expect it. I always find Goergen gives me good little tips too; you can’t argue with someone who can OH press your bodyweight! ;)
I don’t know of anyone who’s posts make me jump inside but I do get a little flutter when I see that pic of Karky’s back on his avatar

Of your embarrassing moments, tell us 2 of them.
I’ve always been competitive and during a cross country race (yes, I used to be an endurance runner) I found myself with an urge to pee. I thought I could run through it but after a while it became obvious I couldn’t so I just let it go down my leg. I got some odd looks at the end as I had a soaked leg

Can’t think of any others right now

What have you had happen that should of been embarrassing, according to others, but you just weren't embarrassed?
That’s a tough question, I guess I sing and dance with my daughter a lot which other people might get embarrassed by. It embarrasses me a little but I’d rather be embarrassed and make her happy than make her unhappy to save my blushes

How much T.V. do you watch?
I try and choose quality over quantity, I always make time for Lost and try to get as deep into the mythical/religious undertones of the show as much as possible.

Other than that I generally just watch animated comedy like the Simpsons or South Park. I find that apart from the odd jewel on TV like Carneval, Twin Peaks and Lost the only groundbreaking work these days comes in animated form, it has fewer restrictions

Oh, Lazy Town rules too

Of the things you find your brain grasping onto, focusing about, what would 'thing' or 'topic' do you wish would just go away?
Mortality, eternity, the nature of life, space and time. It’s a dark place to look into and I doubt there’s comfort to be found in the answers so I’d rather a chip be placed in my brain to stop me thinking about it

Why are you so interested in other people?
I find it interesting how so many people can be living on this Earth, taking in the same information, having the same basic needs and abilities but all have such different personalities and opinions. It’s like trying to bake two identical cakes, using the same ingredients, yet every time you get it out the oven it’s completely different to any of the others Also, why don’t great minds think a like?

You have a tendency to "stick up for things/people/ideas" and at times it is not based on personal attachement. It will be over a principle, or becasuse they are outnumbered, or due to a bully situation. Why do you think you do that? Is is a need for combat?

Lol, you’re speaking from personal experience there I can tell 
My overriding emotion or desire has always been to protect, I made the decision a long time ago to always stand by the side of those that needed help regardless of the personal damage I would have to suffer. My hero’s of cinema also reflect this I suppose, there’s Travis Bickle, Rambo, Rocky, John McLain, Dirty Harry. I’ve always felt slightly different to everyone else, I hate to see people in a vulnerable position. I want a quiet life but there’s so much out there to take a stand against.
One of the reasons I started training were recurring dreams I was having about my daughters life being in danger, my job in these dreams was always to sacrifice myself for her, I hope that never comes true but I’m determined to be the strongest I can be in case the unthinkable ever happens

Tell us about your upbringing?
Too ordinary to mention, born in suburbia to parents who had fairly low paid jobs all their lives

Could you take another life? Under what 'type' of circumstances?
Yes, only if I thought they were a threat to the safety of my family.

Physically what is your greatest challenge? Mentally? Spiritually?
Self image, definitely. No matter what I do or what I weigh, I see a skinny 140lb teenager in the mirror. It makes cutting difficult as I can’t use the mirror as a guide like most people, I have to work off numbers, both on the scale and in what I’m lifting

oh,, and because you are of th very best resources for info on here, in my opinion-- explain the difference between slow and fast twitch, how to train it, and if I, FLYINFREE, should even care.

I’ll assume you want the simple answer
Slow twitch are longer, slower and more durable fibers which make them good for endurance training.
Fast twitch fibers contract faster and produce more powerful bursts of speed needed for lifting heavy stuff. Type 2’s are less efficient and tire quickly though. Type 2b’s are the daddies of strength and I’m pretty sure they’re only used when the lift is really heavy. It’s the fast twitch fibers you need to target if you want to appear more muscular or improve your 1RM

Should you care? To an extent. If you want to gain size then don’t do too many 50 rep sets. Overall though I wouldn’t sweat about it too much, just lift and eat, keep it simple and that’ll bring results

Lol, he just doesn't have my elegant touch

Edit, I just noticed the highlighting is off towards the end. 'Also, why don't great minds think alike' was said by me, it wasn't a question asked by FF
