Pushups in 1 minute

Hey folks,

HAvnt been here in a while but I've since joined a gym and things seem to be going grand. One problem I still have is that I'm awful at pushups. This isn't normally a problem but I'm applying for the Irish army reserves and part of the physical is doing pushups in 1 minute. I need to do around 30 or so.

What would be the best way to train to do many pushups?

Can someone reccomend me a routine?]

Thanks

Cian

I had that same problem but after doing two sets of pushups to failure at the end of my workout for four weeks I have added around thirty pushups to my maximum.
Are you fighting for Northern Ireland or the Republic?

Republic.

Thanks for the info lads.

SO would 10 pushups at random intervals during the dya be ok?

Should I be doing them fast or slow?

How many can you do currently in one sitting to failure?

Around 20.

Depends on the day, can go up to 30 or even 40 sometimes. Some days, struggle to do 5

But 20-25 is my average.

How often should I do them?

Every day? rest Days?

I would do as many as you can at a time, as many times in a day as you can, as many days as you can.

If I recall, that's pretty much the gist of grease the groove...

The key to doing more push ups is just DOING THEM everyday. My max used to be 15 and now my max is 50-60 and 30-40 with slow, perfectly controlled motion.

I wake up, did 3 sets of 10, came home from school, another 3 sets of 10. Every commercial i would do push ups, before i went to bed, etc and kept raising the reps, i can easily do 3x30 now.

im stronger than i used to but my pushups are way down from when i was 18
i have not tried to failure but i struggle to do 25 straight when i remember doing atleast 40

also my situps are down to from when i used to effortlessly do like 80

He is probably already finished with the Army since his initial post was three years ago. :)
