stripped down fullbody

I am getting a gym membership starting in january and so am thinking about starting a long term workout.

I am a fan of fullbodies and was just wondering what you guys think about doing a completely stripped down, hardcore fbw, something like this;

A Squat
Bench
BO row
Arnold press

B Deadlift
Bench
Upright row
Lat pulldown

and alternatating these workouts e.g. ABA,BAB,ABA etc 3 times a week.

Not bad, actually. Kind of depends on your total sets/reps I guess, and rest periods between. It's easy to get into a pattern where you do too many different excercises, then none of them get the full benefit before fatigue sets in.

I'd add some calf work, and a lunge type excercise, but what you've got plus these would give you a good basis to grow on. FWIW, I prefer chins/pulls over pulldowns. Just more fun to me, and grip/width variations are nice changeups from one day to another.

Get in the gym, do your stuff, and get out. (always with proper form and tempo, though)

yea sure was thinking of doing pulls/chins but i struggle to do them atm so i was thinkin build up on the lat pull down and then move onto pulls/chins when im ready. yea i get what you mean about having too many pointless exercises, i see some people with fullbodies that have like 10/12 different exercises and im like surely you just need 1 for each muscle group?

I went for a quad dominant leg exercise, 1 hip and hamstring dominant, one vertical push, 1 vertical pull, on e horiz push, one horiz pull.

Adding direct calf work is fine, but kind of defeats my purpose of doing no isolations.

Personally i think full body's are crap...its kinda only good for keeping your body healthy but i think if you want size you should do your body parts on dif days

how can you say different parts on different days are gonna get you bigger ?

let's see, 3x10 leg extension? or 3x10 squat, pec deck or bench i think i know what would get me bigger gains...

plus in a fullbody all you are doing is exercises that is gonna get you big e.g bench, squat, deadlift, rows.

I would dispute this claim strongly. This is pretty typical bodybuilding fiction, but I assure you that you can gain serious mass doing true full body workouts.

I would have you do 5 exercises with autoregulated sets (hypertrophy rep range), training at about 5% fatigue. You would blow up, while preserving your CNS in the process.

Or maybe one of Waterbury's routines.

If you're going to do this long term, I'd assume you'll be giving different workout styles a chance. No reason to do the same thing forever, and lot's of reasons to change things up. Just plan your workouts, stick to it, and give anything new you try a chance to show some results...probably at least 6 weeks for major changes in the workout style. Maybe more.
Of course, your nutrition plan is going to be the most important part of your overall plan. You can almost always get results from a decent lifting regimen, but only if the nutrition side of things is well planned and followed.
