fbw v splits

I have just had a conversation with my friend who has been training in the gym constantly for a good 3-4 months believes that;

"you need to do splits to work out your whole body"

oh how i laughed :yelrotflmao:
i bombarded him with facts about how your body adapts to stress and still he didn't believe me so i say,

you need to do big lifts, he replies i do do big lifts

how i laughed again, as only the week before he had told me he never does bench press, squats or deadlift!

i think i might have finally persuaded him out of his ghastly split of 1 muscle group per day e.g. arms monday, chest wednesday, legs friday

another thing that made me chuckle was the fact he complains he has not got any bigger :yelrotflmao:

so what do you guys think? fbw v splits

What kind of split?
It all depends on the person, and how much experience they have from lifting.
People who aren't advanced bodybuilders, make most of their gains from doing upper/lower, Push pull, or FBW. Bodybuilders isolate muscles and do different splits, but most of us aren't bodybuilders. except Mreik!

he wasn't doing like upper/lower or pull/push he was just going into the gym without any structured programme jus deciding wat to do when he got there, all isolation/machine based with little or no compound movements and wondering why he wasnt getting any bigger, he is 16 and a classic ectomorph not a 20 stone ripped body builder who can do splits all day and still be a tank

Yeah, then hes doing it wrong..help him out if your his friend, make a program for him and or show him the facts online.

Yea i will if he needs help but its like the way he tried to defend his case made me feel like saying go on then and see what you get kinda but if he needs help he knows where to go. also why did Chillen leave? that man was a legend.

Well, if he refuses to listen to you, then forget him, let him fail and realize his mistakes on his own because clearly he is in denial and wont listen to you. Or you can make incredible progress with your routine, and show him that way;). And chillen didn't leave.

really i saw something about him going to another forum or something along those lines? also with splits i can understand upper/lower and pull/push but why would you want to train each muscle group once a week?

Sometimes, some people make progress that way. I'm not sure, but I think bodybuilders like doing body part splits because they get to put more volume into that certain body part, to stimulate growth, but that doesn't work for most people. Just my opinion, should PM and ask Mreik, he probably knows.

yea i get what youre saying but surely 3x10 squats is better than 3x10 leg extension machine? and pull ups/rows are better than standard curls as more muscle mass is required to perform the exercise plus more hormones released because of the stress on the body = big gains in size and strength?

Yep

Compounds > Iso

your confusing fbw and splits etc.. with isos and compounds

I used to do full body workouts and found that to really get everything done in one sitting, it takes over an hour of work at the gym, and is VERY demanding on the body (especially after 3 sets of 10 squat). I find that doing upper/lower body splits are the best (for the average joe who does not use steroids)

i do
squat
incline-bench
chins
rear-laterals
dips
b-o-r
3 sets of all of them
never takes more than an hour,if you want more exercises do an A,B,C, routine that way you could do three different exercises per muscle group ie chest, mon dips, wed incline-bench,fri db-bench.

doing a split is ok if its worked out ok ie not one bodypart per day,IMO doing each bodypart once a wk is not sufficient stimulus to grow, but if you did say
legs back bis, mon thur
chest shoulders tris tue fri
at least they are being worked twice a wk.

to be honest with you I used to love Full body workouts but lately I have started split routines where I literally "kill" the specific muscle and the next day I can feel it really sore. and that means results.. I have never felt sore after FBWO, just tired obvioulsy. and I have talked about this question you are asking with gym instructors and they have told me this is like studying: you either study all you subjects at one go or else focus very well on each subject. and the answer comes naturally..

Good luck :)

yes but I didnt tell him to focus on his biceps and forget everything. I told him to focues everyday on something in particular and thatgets results. why do we have to argue even on health things? the guy is looking for help here. After all Ive met tons and tons of people, and we al know aobut tons of people who use split routines instead of full body workouts. what's the problem about doing split routines? I dont want to name famous bodybuilders, i want to be practical. this is a guy I have made friends with at the gym. and he also uses split routines. It desont look like he's got skinny arms and a big chest no?

If you just met him at the gym, how come you have a pic of him with no shirt? lol

Hes lean, but not muscular. Like Brad Pitt basically.
