Can't Get Motivated - Worried

This may sound like Im a real loser but Im really lacking motivation over the last few days. Ive never been pirticularly but over the last six weeks I've really got into exercising and Im starting to see the results (need smaller clothes) but over the last few days I just dont seem to be interested. I have learnt alot recently which is good and I also have a strain in the small of my bacl so I had to stop jog. But I cany be bothered to do weights either!!

take a few days off

If you are someone who has had motivation to exercise before, then I'd suggest that you pay attention to when your motivation flags and take it seriously as a sign that you might just need some rest.

You may have been pushing a little too hard. Or you may be under some other stress. Or you may be developing some bug or sickness that you aren't even aware of. Or...you might have a strain in your back! (heh)

Some people suggest that if you don't feel like exercising, you should still try for 10 minutes (tell yourself in advance that you can stop if you don't feel like doing anymore). If after 10 minutes you still don't feel like it, kill the workout. Sometimes, just getting started is enough of a push over that hump.

However...if you feel that even getting those 10 minutes is some insurmountable hurdle, I'd take it as a sign that you just need a break. Take 2-3 days off or even a week, and you'll have a lot more energy when you jump back into it later in the week.

Resting will not hurt you. When you exercise, you are tearing your muscle apart. You get stronger in the time that you rest afterwards. And if you are nursing a minor injury, resting now will give it a chance to get better before it gets to be a more serious, chronic problem.

Depends on what your mental state is like for the previous workout. In general, if you lost motivation, it means you are either stressed, or you are working too hard.

Looking back on what you've been doing, ask yourself if you've been telling yourself to get motivated for gym, or your diet. If you constantly have to tell yourself to go to the gym, or eat right, then it could mean you're on the brink of collapse.

Simply find out why you lack motivation and think about what you already done. You lost weight, you're buying new clothes, and overall it sounds good. Now ask yourself how you been treating yourself mentally? Are you abusing yourself? Are you exposed to stressful situations? Are you giving into temptations? Are you having temptations?

Also, I agree you should take a break if you feel you've been working too hard. Give yourself a break every once in a while, but not too long of a break (i.e. no more than a week or so), and you should feel fresh coming back to the gym. Remember, a "break" doesn't mean go crazy with eating everything. Maintain a diet, and don't give into temptations and ask yourself why you are being tempted if you feel a urge to eat junk.

Steddie you are not a Loser......STOP IT. RIGHT NOW. With those kinds of thoughts, young man.

YOU HAVE IN YOU TO ROCK!

STEDDIE: LEARN TO LET GO OF THE OLD

Let me give the young man a different perspective. Strengthen your personal foundation, Steddie, and you will ROCK, my brotha!

Let me give you some thoughts of mine on the concept of choosing:

If you HAVE to choose, its not a choice: Its a decision
If you WANT to choose, its not a choice: Its a desire
If you dont CARE, its not a choice: Its a reaction

Steddie make the PRESENT perfect and you wont want to choose. Get a reserve of everything and choices will come to you. Let your VALUES choose for you, it is much simpler....really.....think about it.

Focus on Strengthening your foundation; do what you have to do; but just do it; dont choose it.

Steddie, sometimes we hold onto ideas and things because we lack the faith in our ability to obtain from things newly developed. This can lead to insecurity, and this can come from the inability to understand who and what you are.

If one lacks a true relationship with the self this incredible power within yourself will ALWAYS LEAVE YOU and can distort your self image.

This is what you you need to do youn man:

You MUST get to the point where you realize that your true self---KNOWS no limits: that frankly you are capable of having, doing, or being anything you desire to be.

Sometimes people fail to tell themselves the complete and UTTER TRUTH; They pretent to be striving for goal C but are really striving for goal D through thoughts and attitude. And, when they earn goal D, they are completely amazed why they earned this one and not the other.

One of the MOST IMPORTANT THINGS that will make you earn your goal is:

ACTION, my brotha. Physical action, emotional action, and mental action, that is all focused as one unit toward the goal you desire.

Get out of your compfort zone and take the 3 elements of action and be ALL YOU WANT AND DESIRE AND MORE..........

Steddie you need to realize that you are like a builder, you need to "Understand" that your personal foundation is an investment in your future; its like a remodeling.

There will be major changes occurring while you diet and train, and its OKAY TO COMPLAIN, as long as you KEEP WORKING IT AT

I WISH YOU THE BEST in all that you set out to do, young man

Bring in the truth:

1. Change the changeable! Yes recognize the things you have control over, and recognize two things that you do have control over: A. What you think, and B. What you will do.

2. Raise your standards! Do not accept the unacceptable! Stay out of the unnecessary Pity-party wagons.........ROCK YOUR SOCKS!

Withdraw and deposit in your ENERGY BANK!.......ROCK ON!

YOU ROCK.......YES......YOU ROCK........I know it and so do you!

Best wishes to you!

Thanks all, I have been stressed recently, and a bit ill and the clocks have gone back so its dark pretty much all the time when Im not at work. I think joining a gym would help during the winter months.

I have just done some, but seem to give up exercise to quickly. My diet has improved dramitically. At work Im always offered cakes and now I just say no, which gives me a much better buzz that eating the cake!!! YES!!!

HOLY COW!! I need Chillen in my corner on my squat days! I think I could add a couple plates just listening to him.

You mentioned you are already seeing results...that is some of the best motivation around. I know that when I started seeing the fruits of my work, it simply makes me want to do even more. On days when I just feel a little lousy, I get myself to the gym (or put the running shoes on) and start thinking about the bogus special assessment the city just put on my property for street improvements, or the new property tax hikes, or the lawsuit I just went through (even though I won) and the blood starts flowing and the weights rack up, or the miles tick off, and it's the best workout I can have. Yes, very contrary to Chillen's methods, but minor rage works for me!

If you were into weights, I'd suggest taking a digital picture of yourself once a week. Don't bother looking at them for quite some time, but it will give you a great progression series after a year or so.
You might want to consider adding some resistance training to your regimen. I can't think of any reason not to do this unless there are multiple injuries that prevent such a workout. This would also add to your progress and probably motivate you further.

Good luck!
