Good for Angel!
You clearly haven't gained 13 lb of fat in 16 days (that would require an excess of 2850 calories/day). But you did change your diet on April 2, about when you started gaining weight, so maybe you might try cutting out dairy again?
Thanks for asking Err, and yes, something has changed, and its not just about calories. Here are the things that I have changed in the past few weeks:
  1. Eating dairy again, the reason I took it out was that the nutritionist suspected it was the cause of my digestive problems, but it clearly was not. However it could be the cause of the weight gain...
  2. Eating more carbs, same story as the dairy. Most of my carbs are in veggies, fruit, and the dairy products, I eat no starches. One exception is that I have started eating shredded wheat for breakfast again, my only grain.
  3. Eating some artificial sweetener again, not as much and just stevia. Along with it I am eating more unsweetened chocolate. I have stayed off of the carbonated diet drinks.
  4. Changed my protein powder, I am now eating non-dairy bone based protein supplement, for a long time I ate whey based.
  5. Probably have let my sodium go up a bit, not intentionally but have not been as careful with it. I do not and never had high blood pressure and have been told sodium is not a health problem for me, I just try to keep it down on general principals.
  6. I am eating a few more calories, probably 100 to 200 per day more.
  7. And there is the surgery and resulting lack of exercise...
So a lot has changed, but to have gained 18 pounds now since the day before surgery, less than a month ago, is surprising. Not quite sure what to do about it. If the carbs or dairy are causing more water retention weight, but otherwise not hurting me I can live with a few extra pounds. On the other hand the extra calories and lack of exercise could be a problem. I should probably try changing that first. And cutting the sodium a bit could not hurt. Up another pound this morning...

118.4 - finally moving down a bit. I was strict yesterday. Trying to stick to a clean diet for 2 weeks at least.

Good for Angel!

After losing over 160 lbs I began maintenance in July 2020 and am trying to stay somewhere in or close to the 150s.

Anytime I have even a bit of sodium/ processed food, my weight goes up. It wouldn't hurt experimenting and seeing if that is causing water retention.

!! Almost out of the 210s!!

I am back after not weighing yesterday. Didn't want to see what the binge had done I guess... Nothing new.
  • August began 161, ended 159, ranged 163 to 159.
  • September began 160, ended 158, ranged 160 to 154.
  • October began 159, ended 158, ranged from 155 to 162.

  • January 2021 averaged 155 and ranged from 149 to 160.
  • February averaged 156 but ranged wildly 145 to 166.
  • March averaged 147, ranged from 143 to 153, the high just the one day after surgery.

After losing about 160 lbs I began maintenance in July 2020 and am trying to stay somewhere in or close to the 150s.

No real weight change, but went to the doctor yesterday and he did confirm the water retention thing. So as y'all have been telling me most of my recent weight gain is water, not fat. Now I just need to figure out why. The Dr took a bunch of blood samples to help with that. I wonder, is water retention itself a problem, other than the worry about weight gain? Now that I know its not fat does it really matter?

I took a mini road trip the last 4 days to scout out potential areas to move with lower housing prices and lower population densities. While I did well exercising (I ran 10K+ each day), I overate twice - once quite excessively. Part of it was late night stress eating and part of it was eating out one meal a day at "fine dining" establishments which were typically higher calorie but not very filling. I packed plenty of fruit and "healthy" snacks, but my veggie consumption plummeted and I found myself very hungry despite these higher calorie counts.

Anyway, I'm glad to be back home where I have more control over my food, but I'm disappointed I'm not magically cured and ready to handle anything. And while I like visiting the places I went, I love my home area and am just so frustrated by many of the changes over the last decade.
