Alligatorob's Diary

I never knew you could just grow ones for decorative purposes . Interesting. I'm getting the vibe you don't want to be cooking pumpkin lol . I think you are all harvested and cooked out now Rob . Time to relax some .

Harvesting seems to be keeping you busy! That's a great thing, I think moving around and doing functional/natural movements beats doing something more mechanic at the gym any day. Living in a high rise, I don't really get any functional household chores really - so I envy you in that way!

Yesterday was a good day, I ate well and feel good this morning. It was a busy day, the wife's birthday and I spent most of it getting ready for and hosting her party. First we had the grandkids over for a big pumpkin carve, and then cake and ice cream followed by presents. 15 pumpkins got carved in all. I did the procuring and most of the scraping of guts out of the pumpkins, lots of work. We had a total of about 20 people over, but not all at the same time and did try to do social distancing, hope we were ok. One of my favorites (adult carved).

The smaller ones should be perfectly edible. Chop into slices and bake until sweet and soft. Don´t think the peel is edible but peeling after baking is a lt easier than before.
I asked around and you are right LaMa, some folks around here do that, mostly to make pumpkin pie filling, but some eat the pumpkins like squash. However I probably won't, when I was young I got very sick after bingeing on pumpkin pie, to this day I cannot eat it without feeling nauseous. Pumpkin is the only pie I do not like.

Petal, most of the pumpkins grown here are for decorative purposes, lots of jack-o-lanterns and some just to put on the front porch. You are right about the vibe, I told LaMa why above. And I am pretty much harvested and cooked out, for now anyway.

Hey Lingwo, yes I do prefer living where I can get out and do things around the house. When I was younger I lived in apartments, I do occasionally miss the lack of maintenance responsibility. You live quite close to some excellent outdoor recreation, Banff is just a short drive isn't it? I have been there a few times, great place!
Glad to see you are recovering well. :)
Thanks Vegas, and I was happy to see your diary and that your recovery is also happening!

It was a good day, I ate well and feel good tonight. I did not do much exercise, kind of tired from all the activity of the past few days. Also the weather was awful, howling wind and very cold, it never got above freezing. The forecast is for 11 F (-12 C) tonight, hard to believe that just a few days ago I was worried about the first frost of the fall...

Winter comes when it comes. I'm still hoping we can mostly skip it this year as it would keeping the virus concentration in the air liw at work much easier but we'll see.

Hey Rob, your yogurt looks delicious! I love the idea of making most of my food myself and was wondering how you're making your yogurt? Based on the (very limited) good search I just did the recipes require a bit of store-bought yogurt to get things started. Is that how you started making yours?

Oh, brrr! Winter takes some adjusting too, but I'm sure will, Rob. Do you have any exercise equipment in your mancave?

It was a good day, but one without much exercising. Still cold and I was a bit tired. I ate well and feel good tonight, less tired. I did struggle a bit today, but did not over eat.

I would be happy without winter too, but it seems no such luck so far. This really was an unexpected cold snap, the trees were still green when it hit, no color this year they are losing green leaves.
Winter is nearly here too I think . The summer went fast but autumn romped past me . Like the pumpkin Rob .
I think I missed autumn as well, LOL. Thanks I do like that pumpkin.

I started mine with a special culture I purchased online, but I don't think I would do that again. I think any good store bought yogurt would work fine, and that way you could try it first. It does need to be a live yogurt, not pasturized.
Cool pumpkin! Glad your wife had a nice birthday celebration.
Thanks Emily, it was a nice party.

Yes, I do have some weights and things here, but cannot put them to use yet. I am hoping that when I see the doctor next week he will give me the ok to start exercising again.

Did not get this posted yesterday:

A good day, my only exercise was a bit of wood chopping, but it felt good. I am still taking it easy, will see what the doctor says next week.

It was a good day, I ate well and feel good tonight. My exercise was limited to some yardwork, preparing for winter, but I did get a little.
Hopefully he will let you back to the gym Rob .
I think he will, however the bad gym news now is that one of the class instructors has tested positive for Covid. Maybe just as well I have been away, we'll see what happens next.

Thanks LaMa, great video, though my wood chopping doesn't look much like that!

Hi Rob :)

You feel like the fatigue has been the hardest part post-op? I find that the smallest tasks exhaust me and its annoying. I am sure you are dealing with the same.

But overall it seems like you are doing well and moving thru recovery with ease.

Also, hard pass on that 11F temp - I live in Vegas for a reason where I need to put a sweater on at 65F. :)

& I'm one of the odd ones out who don't like looking at really muscly me. I actually go eeeuuww! I could only watch a little bit of that video.
I'm glad you haven't been going to the gym, Rob. It's awful reading the covid figures in the US. Take care xo
