Cate's Diary

Maybe they need a compost bin, even though they don't garden at all.
It's a great habit to get into, though - and there'll always be someone who could use the compost!
I'll take a bag with me for either apples or lemons as I have noticed a few trees near the road
Excellent! :D

There were about 12 or so big bags of rubbish & about 6 small bags of recycling. He & his housemate got a bit of a lecture. It was revolting, with leaking, smelly bags. When we got to the tip it was also a mess as they had run out of the big bags for recycling & everything was overflowing. Yuck! Not a pleasant job. I hope they get themselves better sorted. Maybe they need a compost bin, even though they don't garden at all.
Yes hope they get it better sorted for next time! Is the 'rubbish' stuff for compost?
Do you have to worry about animals getting into the compost around there? I keep thinking about starting my own but need to make sure its rodent proof...but would be nice to have ongoing nutrients for the garden...

Also about the blue tit: they look a bit like great tits and the main difference - other than size, which can be hard to judge from a distance - is cap color.

Amy & Liza- I think composting would be a good idea for them as it would really reduce the amount that goes into landfill. It needs to be rodent-proof like our bins.
LaMa- we don't have the tits here. They are pretty.
G & I went for a 4.14 km walk today & picked some more lemons & left a jar of rhubarb chutney.
We got a beautiful card from K's(R's GF) parents in the Netherlands. How sweet!

Gorgeous landscape, lovely lemons, and is that the card they sent by the lemons? That´s so nice. Real paper mail is something special.

Love the look of those lemons . I just realised that melons and lemons have the exact same letters thanks to autocorrect.

:D love the anagramming!

And good morning Cate! I think you are the first of us all to greet the day? Or no - it's an honour you share with Tru - to be the first to see the sun as the new day rolls around the globe. Why don't we have any New Zealanders, I wonder? Anyway, here we are in a new day, and I'm set to make it a good one! May it be a good one for all of us! :)

How lovely--you mean you just left the jar below the tree? Do you know the owners of the tree?

Yes that's my problem currently--i was taking my compost to the community compost site but don't feel like doing that lately...I would much rather do my own and keep it at home and, as you mentioned, out of the landfill. I'm thinking of buying red wiggler worms to make a really nice efficient fast system...However I'm better at thinking about doing things than actually doing them so will probably take me a while to set that up!

Hi, Liza. I went to their front door as their letterbox was wired up & placed the jar with the recipe underneath on their wheelbarrow. We do know the couple & say hello whenever we meet in town usually. If you have a compost bin without a bottom the worms will find their way in anyway. We use one of those corkscrew-like compost mixers & every time you use it worms come up to the top.
Hi, LaMa. G's appointment went very well. He doesn't need to see them again & will have a phone appointment with a therapist in a couple of weeks. I insisted that he ask if he was allowed to cut wood as he was going to the other day & I stopped him. He has to take it easy for a couple of weeks, but start doing exercises & can take the bandages off, get the hand wet etc. He has to retrain his finger to feel normal again.

We actually had a lovely day yesterday. We visited a couple of friends from a distance, went for a walk around the beautiful city park, got GF fish and chips & ate them in the park, bought the GK's a uke each (my idea) & a how-to book, did a little food shopping & almost felt normal. I think I am getting better & better at avoiding getting close to anyone physically. A restaurant in Launc. that only does GF puts up a takeaway menu each day & last Tuesday they had fish and chips. I asked if they would be on the menu this Tuesday & the owner said that for me he would. How nice! They were a treat. I don't usually eat fried food, but as a one-off it was delicious.

:hurray: How genuinely heart-(and mouth-)warming! And potentially a GKs'ukelele ensemble coming up! :D
That's pretty brilliant, how well G's finger is healing. Hooray again for good working immune systems! :hurray:

Sounds great! It must be such a relief for him to get rid of the bandages. Cutting wood may not be a good idea as long as the finger still feels weird and doesn't move the way he's used to. A clumsy finger should come nowhere near saws and axes.

It does help to slowly get used to the distancing doesn't it? At first it can feel awkward, strange and even unfriendly, but i do find now most of us seem used to it and it seems as friendly as before...i think the next challenge will be how to be with each other as things re-open in its slow careful way.
Anyhow glad you had a good day yesterday--you seem to be following a similar pattern to me--i had an energetic day yesterday followed by a lazy one today!
