What are some Good Cardio Activities?

I am trying to brain storm a bunch of activities that are good healthy cardio workouts. I am looking for activities that do not include going to the gym and are really fun.

I am in great shape, but my friend is hardly in shape at all. Well, I guess round is a shape.

This is what I have so far:
  • Swimming
  • Hiking
  • Walking/Jogging/Running
  • Volleyball
  • Roller Blading/Ice Skating
  • Kayaking/Rowing/Canoing
  • Bicycling
  • Doing Stairs at Work

What are some more ideas?

Thanks in advance!

jump rope routines - include time interval goals with rewards of jumping jacks or penalties of pushups.

handstands, cartwheels, and shouldder rolls out on the grass. Much harder than you may think.

If you're willing to go for a real leap, I would suggest Dance Dance Revolution. I've played this video game since I was a youngun, but recently since I've been exercising, I use it for work out. You can also input your weight and height on a profile and it tells you how many calories you're burning in "workout mode". You can get it for PS1, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Gamecube, and if you want to take a little time, PC.

If you're still clueless, a channel called TechTV, now known as G4TV did a documentary on the game which goes into more detail as to how the game is played and what the game is.

Very funny you mention that.

I used to play DDR (on the real machines) for a couple of years.
I can honestly say that I felt great and was in great shape.
We had the machine in our Break Room at my old work.

How I miss DDR. 8 Steps > No Problem.

Squash isn't ideal to get fit - from what i've heard. It requires a lot of fitness to play, so can maintain it but not build up fitness - this is from what i've heard; maybe a myth??

  • Taijiquan (also commonly spelled Tai Chi)
  • Qigong (Chi Gung)
  • Hitting a heavy bag

Also, some of the things that have been mentioned are more anaerobic activities that require a certain level of fitness, like soccer, sprints, and raquetball. While all of these are really good exercises, maybe not the best thing to start out on. But, once your friend gets more fit then he'll be able to mix in some of these and get AWESOME results!

Got trikke?

Try trikking. A trikke is a 3 wheeled cambering vehicle that is human powered that uses Trikke Tech's patented 3CV technology to allow a rider to move a chainless, pedal-less device forward without ever touching a foot on ground.

Good workout, low impact, more importantly its fun.

I'm surprised no one said dance.

dance is kind of a taboo topic, especially for guys but i definitely recommend using some dance fitness products at home. this way you get to burn calories though cardio and learn some moves that you can use when you go out.

try hiphop abs or hip hop moves for the club

Hahahaha that was great. Anway, you could have a catch with a football and have one person sprint around doing routes while the other is QB, and then switch it up. Or if your friend has a dog, they can tie that pooch up on a leash and go for a run with the dog, giving them both exercise:) If you have a few people, ultimate frisbee is a huge workout.
