I agree with LaMa, fear of hunger is natural, probably instinctive. Its the main reason I have not tried IF. I have read the posts here and can see that a lot of people have benefited from IF, Flyer is a good example, but I am not sure I could handle the hunger. You have to decide that for yourself, and you seem to be doing a good job of it. I am sure you will do the right thing for yourself.I'll work out what is best to eat when, for me, but I am still not quite used to IF & still have a slight fear of real hunger. I know that sounds crazy, but I don't cope well with hunger. I'm getting better.
Hi, LaMa. My fear of having real hunger was more a before IF thing & may very well be associated with my very strict diet back in 2007. I have surprised myself with how well I have adjusted to hunger already. I had forgotten that aspect of it & need to remind myself in the evening that I don't need to fill up, just in case I can't cope with the hunger in the morning. I do need to get my nutrients, which is the most important thing. Not coping well with real hunger is quite normal as starvation was a very real threat to our ancestors through most of history. It's usually hardest for people who've dealt with starvation before, either through external circumstances or overly strict dieting. Reminding yourself you'll be eating again soon and will have (delicious, nourishing thing) might help.
Hi, Rob. The fear of not being able to cope with hunger is far greater than the actual hunger & that is diminishing with each day of IF. I have only done 10 days of it now & have adjusted well. There is no way known I will be eating before noon & I can see evenings when I cut back my eating window. I have done it a few times now & had no trouble the next day. My stomach only complains a little bit about 9 am & then the black coffee fixes thatI agree with LaMa, fear of hunger is natural, probably instinctive. Its the main reason I have not tried IF. Thanks, Petal. You're right. I am getting in the zone now. I'm struggling to track my calories though, but hopefully, that won't matter. If I have not lost any weight this week I'll be more mindful of doing that again. It seems you are planning so you won’t be hungry Cate so eat something nourishing and filling to get you through that window in the morning. You sound like you are getting in the zone now
Love all of that. Great work, Cate!I have surprised myself with how well I have adjusted to hunger already. if you think about things you are afraid of, it usually boils down to two things.... lack of control and/ or lack of information. you feel more comfortable driving a car rather than being a passenger... lack of control. you might be afraid of being caught in a terrorist attack or a school shooting... lack of information (math/ probabilities). put the two together and you get the fear of flying..... I'll work out what is best to eat when, for me, but I am still not quite used to IF & still have a slight fear of real hunger. I know that sounds crazy, but I don't cope well with hunger. That's interesting about the fear of hunger being worse than hunger itself, hadn't thought of that. For me I would think evenings would be the hardest, Skipping breakfast is not a big deal, but going to bed hungry would be tough. 10 days in you are doing great, if you can do that and adapt you can do it as long as you need or want to.
