Cate's Diary

No daylight savings here in QLD
I have no idea why not really.
Amy- Do you love daylight savings?
Dead ringer, and I am pretty sure you look like a younger Helen Mirren, am I right?
Of course :D
i know it means energy, but i've never understood the "saving" part. ...at least in modern times.
Saving that daylight for later in the day?
The joy of numbers! They can be a real time sink though.
The internet is a time sink full stop, as is this forum. It's a pleasant one mostly though xoxo

I really had trouble sleeping last night & was SO itchy! I have no idea what brought that on, but maybe the new antihistamine doesn't work for me. I'll get my usual one & give these to G I think.
He's doing the crosswords I saved him from last weeks' papers so I thought I would pop in quickly.

Because they're closer to the equator. The closer a place is, the less difference there is between summer and winter in sunlight hours. Queensland therefore doesn't get as dark early in winter, or as light early in summer, so has less incentive to change the clocks.

No, I don't like daylight saving much - I have enough trouble sorting time zones as it is!

(About being itchy last night - a possible contributor could be the sheets, if you've washed them in a new washing powder? At least, I've found that some are fiercer than others and need more rinsing.)

Hi Cate! So happy you have your G back!! Glad you are using your new bush seats and ugh to the leach that G got on him. That sounded revolting, and glad he recovered quickly. You are losing weight again and sound back in the swing of things!!! So wonderful to hear!!! Hope you are getting lovely, non-itchy sleep!!

Hi, Amy. Is that why, do you think? Between the periods of the September equinox and the March equinox when the sun is in the southern half of the sky, Hobart gets more sunlight than any other state capital. As you go farther south the twilight period gets longer and longer. I have never really been able to work out why Queenslanders have not changed to daylight savings, but maybe Tru will have a better idea.
Re: the itchiness. It's not my washing powder/liquid as I haven't changed that for years. I am allergic to so many things that I take AH's all year round & am very careful with the stuff I use. I think it will be the change to a new antihistamine. We bought my usual one today.

Hi, Marsia. I'm happy he's back too :beating: I won't be taking the old/new antihistamine until tomorrow morning, but hopefully won't be itchy tonight. I feel so much better but maybe underate yesterday as I was very hungry & light-headed this morning.

Hi, LaMa. Little things make such a difference. I would never stay in a relationship where those small gestures didn't count. G sneezes & sniffles, but doesn't get hayfever. Haha. It's something that has developed in recent years. He doesn't have Asthma & his allergy symptoms are not too bad. Neither of our sons has allergies.

We went & visited our BIL, M, in hospital this afternoon. I asked G which he would rather- tomorrow or today so we went today as he wasn't too tired. We had lunch at a Chinese restaurant first. M had bladder cancer & had his bladder removed last Tuesday. The operation took 12 hours. He looked exhausted, poor thing. His system hasn't kicked in yet so isn't eating yet. He'll be in the hospital for another week. We saw quite a few people we knew in there including one of the old vets, whose wife is touch & go.
It's good to be home again.

That must´ve been a tough outing :grouphug:

Oh gosh, sounds really tough! All my best xx

Hi Cate hope today is a nice day . That sure was a tough day . I hope your BIL makes a recovery .
glad your husband is home safe and enjoying the crosswords . Your a lovely couple .

I have no Idea lol, I am a southerner who just happens to live in Queensland now, and there always seems to be a debate about it at this time of year.

101- We're both grateful that we are relatively healthy, but hope that voluntary euthanasia is an option before we get too old & I don't mean just for the terminally ill. The reality of having a stoma has set in for our BIL unfortunately, so he was fairly down yesterday. I think he had done well preparing himself mentally for it & I also think he will adjust well but it will take time. He's not going to be able to lift any more than 10 kg & that will really limit doing a lot of the things he loves doing.
Petal- G has done all his crosswords & is happily reading the Melbourne Saturday paper we still buy. We're both very lucky. We started going out 48 years ago today :beating:
Tru- That's funny. I forget that you are a southerner. Maybe the Queenslanders aren't sure why they don't have it anyway. I'm a northerner who lives in Tasmania. I call myself Tasmanian though as I feel I really belong here.

A day at home today which will be lovely. We are going to cut up a tall, slender tree that has come down over the track at the bottom of our block. It will only take about an hour I think.
I weighed this morning actually expecting to have regained a little as I felt like I had. I'm the same as last week & this didn't disappoint me. I didn't eat "proper" meals while G was away & snacked mostly & also didn't really count calories so for the next week I'm going to. I wasn't disappointed at all. Win.

Oh, wow, Happy dating anniversary!!!! 48 years is some accomplishment, and I can't begin to imagine the rich relationship that has been woven through all those years together!

I really like your attitude about food and weight now - just doing what feels right for your body and not stressing about things. I think I am headed in the same direction. I will try to either maintain or lose a little at a time and not worry about when. It's way more important to do this with health in mind and a healthy attitude, hopefully!

I really feel for your brother in law. We just lost a friend to cancer, the organizer of the music festival we go to, and I feel really sad because he was such a giving person with the most contagious smile and a kind heart. Cancer is such a horrible disease. Hugs to you and G for all the stress from the visit!

Hope you did get outside and get fresh air!!!

Thanks, Marsia & Petal.
the rich relationship that has been woven through all those years together!
I love that. I read it out to G xoxo
It really does feel so much better to get things back in perspective, weight-wise, scales-wise & food-wise. IF is suiting me well.
We have had a lovely day, spending most of our day outside & also listening to music.

Congratulations Cate and G on a wonderful 48 years together. And you enjoyed a lovely day together .
Well done on your maintain on weight, a good achievement .

Congratulations! That is quite the accomplishment, something to be proud of.

Sorry to hear about your brother-in-law, I know it must be hard on the family. Cancer is an awful disease.

I agree with you on the voluntary euthanasia thing, we should all have that right when the time comes. I have watched enough family members die to know the end can be hard and unpleasant, doing it voluntarily a few days or weeks earlier can let one die with more dignity and just be a better end to a good life. I don't see it being legalized here, not in Utah anyway. We have talked about stashing some pills so we can do it "illegally" but have not done anything about it. Not that we are feeling anywhere near the need to.

Good to hear that you are doing well with your diet and IF thing.

I agree too about dying with dignity and like Rob I have witnessed long drawn out deaths. I personally would love a choice but like Utah it won’t happen here .

Hi Rob. It is something to be proud of, but only because it is a happy and loving relationship. If either of us was unhappy that would be very different.
Hi, Petal.
I have always thought that voluntary euthanasia would become legal in Australia, but I do sometimes doubt it the way politicians are going these days. The world is becoming more & more right-wing & extremely evangelical & that is a huge concern. The rights we fought for are being eroded.

It's "ladies" golf day today. The general committee was asked if I could have a bar key & a security code so that I could lock up on women's days. They had a meeting Monday night. If they said no I will not being doing the bar at all. Either way, I am trying to tell myself that I don't care.
