I have 3 children, 14, 18, and 21. I’m 40 Years old, married to a supportive wonderful man, and have an almost 2 year old Golden Retriever named Bentley!
I use to be overweight, I was 213lbs at my heaviest, didn’t have a good relationship with food, ate out of boredom and emotional eating. I was diagnosed with Lupus back in 2014, and things got ROCKY
I needed a change! I needed good health, and a positive mind. Needless to say, with hard work, supportive community and a new healthy relationship with food, and Intermitting fasting, I’m now 129lbs (My Goal was 135) and my new goal is to put on lean muscle and maintain. The journey is never really over, even when you hit that target weight. It takes effort to keep it off. Everyday isn’t perfect, but I’m committed and I’ve learned so much! I enjoy supporting others on their journey and it helps keep me steady!

Hey Taylor, good to see you started a diary, and congratulations on losing almost 100 lbs! That is no small achievement.

I would be interested in hearing more about how you did it. How long did it take and what kind of a diet were you on? You mentioned intermittent fasting, how did that work?

Hearing from people like you gives people like me a feeling that we can do it too!

Hi, Taylor & welcome to the diary section of the forum. Well done on achieving your goal weight. It sounds like you are ready to maintain. Did you do low carb as well as IF?

I lost about 65lbs through Diet and exercise. I worked out 6 days a week, and ate restricted calories, used MFP to track. It took me over a year. I just couldn’t seem to lose the last 20lbs!! It was so frustrating, I felt like I was literally burning out. Working out for an hour a day and eating 12-1400 calls...but then I started learning about Intermitting Fasting & Eating a low carb, healthy fat diet, NOT KETO...the way i learned was 50% fat, 35% protein and 15% carbs. I stopped counting calories and started tracking my macros. Literally the 20lbs was gone in 40 days!! Only exercising 30 minutes 5 days a week too, and since eating this way, I’ve also put my chronic illness in a state of pause sort of speak! :)

Yes, I did do low carb, I still do. I’ve adapted this lifestyle for the health benefits too. I track macros, getting about 50% healthy fat, 35% protein and 15%carbs.

Thanks, Taylor. I'm sure that low-carb works. I'm going to start reducing my carbs as well as increasing my exercise. It would be great to not ever count calories again, but I will for a while.

Hi again! :) Can I say that Bentley is a great name for a Golden Retriever - and that a two-year-old dog is probably the best exercise incentive that anyone could have!
The business about the last twenty pounds being the hardest to lose is really interesting to me I don't think there's been any scientific study to investigate why it is so, but so many people report it, that I think it has to go from "anecdotal evidence" to "actual fact".
It's marvellous that you've put the lupus "on pause" just by taking control of your life, eating healthily and exercising - inspiring, in fact!

Thanks Taylor, it always helps me to have a story to put with a name. And your story is inspirational for sure!

How do you see your maintenance working? Continuing the healthy fat diet and exercise? Do you still do some IF? How long have you been in maintenance mode? I think maintenance is harder than losing weight, it always has been for me.

Great picture by the way, is that you?
