Petals diary

My mouth is watering at the food description. I wasn't hungry before I read this post, now I feel ravenous! :D Sounds like a really lovely day.

Yes LaMa . We tend to eat together a lot . Em I think I might have the same again today . Although I have some steak so maybe that . Decisions decisions

Hey Petal that sounds like a good dinner. I really like fajitas but am trying to avoid the "authentic" ones, too many calories. Fajitas originated in Texas and are considered Tex-Mex or Tejano food. They came from Texas cowboys eating strips of beef in tortillas. Unlike what you see in the movies many Texas Cowboys were ethnic Mexicans. Much of what we think of in the US as Cowboy culture was originally Mexican. Anyway your version sounds great! Not putting a lot of refried beans and cheese on helps.

Saw your comment on melons, today should be a melon day for us as well. Yesterday our farmer stopped by and gave us a couple of just picked field ripened cantaloupes, he had a full pickup truck load heading to market. I am looking forward to trying them. Do melons grow in Ireland? I always thought you needed hot weather for melons, hotter than I imagine you get.

I saw your post on Cate's diary, and you are right I believe eating a lot of low calorie fruits and vegetables to fill up on really helps. Helps me anyway.

Hope your headache is gone.

Your food sounds delectable, and huge congratulations on the 3.5 pound loss. You are doing so fantastically good! My house sounds like yours at the moment, but I am going to do what you are doing and just clean a little here and there and not worry too much. You can only do so much! I still can't get over how much more positive and happy you are now - so completely happy for you - it seems like you've really turned a corner!!

Hi, Petal. I haven't read my diary yet( I leave it until last) but it's funny. I just bought half a cantaloupe & half a honeydew melon & thought I would make a fruit salad. You do sound so much more positive & happy & it's a joy to see :grouphug:

Hi All,
Marsia and Cate , Thanks for all the positive comments. Tbh I think joining the club gave me a focus and something to aim for. I do feel happier. I have lots more stuff to work on like my social life which I am aware is very quiet but I kind of like that .
Will work daily on the cleaning now school is back and routine is good.

Rob my fajitas are very plain with not much added but had the same last night as I has lots of pepper and chicken to use up. Very tsar to. I don't miss the tortilla wraps . No I buy melons they don't grow here. I buy maybe 3 a week. Sadly we import lots of fruit . Apples and strawberries probably the best local produce.

Is the club Slimming World? I did join a weight loss group a good couple of years ago now, I enjoyed it to some extent, but I don't know. I prefer being anonymous here, hehe.

Meetup is great for being sociable because you can pick and choose what to go to. I like it anyway.

Hi all.
Sorry I went to read many times yesterday but something else pops up. I can't use on my phone as it's too hard on the eyes . School back so I have been busy rushing about and we getting back into routine .

Yes Em it's SW. I am actually enjoying it except for a couple of things but I decided to embrace it this time and suck up what I don't like and I'm getting more out of it. It's 9 euro a week but I was probably spending that on crap anyway . Have met some nice ladies there . The thing I don't like is the class takes too long . The consultant talks to everyone and you say about your week . Some people talk for too long . I'm matter of fact answer the question and move on please lol . If you struggle the class will give you tips . There is no shaming just support. However I have heard of classes where they make you feel bad but not mine . I wouldn't go if that's the case. So far I enjoy the getti g out , the chats and the lady who weighs me is absolutely lovely and she has huge struggles with her weight. Our consultant herself has lost about 10 stone and is an inspiration.

Meet up doesn't have much in Ireland except Dublin maybe Em . I wish it was better rurally .

That's great Petal, you'll be in full bloom soon! ;)

Ah yeah, wherever you go, there will always be someone who talks too much. ;) That's part of life. It sounds like a good group though.

Another 2lb off this week so my August total was 5lb . Happy with that
That is great! You should be happy.

I saw your post on alcohol, and not drinking brandy or whiskey is a good thing. Much as I enjoy it, I know those are empty calories, that's why I have cut back. I live in Utah where the majority of the population is Mormon, and Mormons don't drink alcohol, or smoke, or take in much caffeine. Utah is also one of the healthiest states in the US with life expectancy well above the US average. And when you break that down further, non Mormons (like me) in Utah are no healthier than the US average, but Mormons are a lot healthier than we are.. Pretty good empirical evidence against smoking and drinking. Of course I always point out to my Mormon friends that its more likely their lives just seem longer without indulging!

Rob
I admit I have a guilty pleasure of watching sister wives . I think they have moved to Utah but I might be wrong . Thsnks LaMa

Hi, Petal. Well done on the extra 2 lb loss & the 5Lb total for August! You are really back in the swing of things. I'm starting again on the 1st of September.

I admit I have a guilty pleasure of watching sister wives . I think they have moved to Utah but I might be wrong.
I've only seen a couple of episodes, I think they were in Las Vegas then, Las Vegas is not far from Utah so that could be a logical move. Have you seen the HBO series "Big Love"? It is completely fictitious but does a fairly accurate job of portraying Utah's polygamous culture, they used a lot of local consultants. To be clear the modern Mormon Church does not tolerate polygamy, it leads to rapid excommunication, that's been true for over 100 years. However they did practice it in the 19th century and there are still splinter groups here who do. Not the reason I moved to Utah.

Thanks Cate yeah I'm in the zone .
rob yes they moved from Las Vegas . They all a bit whacky really and extremely dysfunctional but I enjoy the show . Escapism . I have not seen Big love . Polygamy doesn't bother me per se each to their own but it doesn't seem to work the other way. Might be useful to have a few husbands to do some extra work about . I could do with a decorator , electrician and a carpenter ;):rotflmao:

I agree, so long as its truly consensual and all are of legal age I see nothing wrong with it. The problem here is that in many cases it seems to have formed the basis for cults that do illegal things, like forcing 13 year old girls to marry old men, and welfare fraud. There have even been prostitution rings here based on polygamy, the "husband" is really a pimp and young vulnerable women are attracted in being told they were joining the "family". I have a friend who is a lawyer, a public defender, who specializes in defending polygamists, he has some pretty disturbing stories. He tells me in Utah, despite laws against polygamy ,no one is prosecuted just for polygamy unless they are trying to get them for other illegal acts and the prosecutors just throw polygamy on the list. So people like those in Sister Wives don't need to hide from the law. I think it should be legalized, it would give all involved better defined and more equal legal rights and responsibilities. Even if legal I don't think it would be very common.

The word polygamy can mean either extra wives or husbands, so go for it! In Utah I have never heard of a woman with more than one husband, but I do know there are cultures, like Tibet, where its been practiced.
