Hi Cate

Thanks, Marsia. I ended up having a nice day. Our son stayed for over 2 hours & it was lovely. We talked about lots of things. He has lost 15 kg in 10 weeks, doing low carb & lots of walking. He looks really good. G & I had shared a bottle of red wine before he got here, thinking he wouldn't be having anything & then he fancied a single malt whisky, so we had a small one too. There goes that for one day. I had decided that one day a week I could have a bit more than 2 glasses of wine (1/2 a bottle) but next time he's coming I'll wait until he's here, before I have anything ie this Friday night.
Hi Cate

Hey, Petal :) So happy to hear from you. We're doing well, thank you. I hope you are too. I haven't had a look around the other diaries yet as there are so many & sometimes it's hard to get back to mine. Thanks for popping into my diary xoxo

Quick report- I haven't logged in with yesterday's food, wine etc, but can report that I did 2.5 km on my bike, outside before breakfast, which is a biggie for me. I put my beanie & gloves on as it was minus something.
BF is usually oats, almond milk, a banana, a tsp honey, tsp chia seeds(all soaked overnight) heated for 2 mins in the microwave & with a dollop of Greek yoghurt(50g?) on top. Very filling. I bought some fat-free Greek yoghurt yesterday & am trying to eat up the full-fat one that G bought, My list had said Jalna fat-free or low-fat & he bought a 2 kg tub of full-fat. I think I need to do the shopping from now on. I hate wearing my mask in the local supermarket but don't need to in the one that's 40 km away, which is also much nicer, but more expensive.
OK- better look around xoxo

Wow, I loved the pictures you shared on Friday, thank you for posting them! I work alcohol into my calorie allotment and into my calorie deficit even when I was working to lose weight because I enjoy it, but it's such a tough balance because of it's calorie density isn't it. My partner is the same way with the shopping, no matter how specific I am on the list, but your breakfast sounds delicious anyway!!

:iagree: Agreed, about that breakfast! I think I'll take a tip, and vary my egg-and-bread standard a bit - I have the oats, and the yoghurt, and the banana (what is life without bananas?) - I must remember about soaking overnight!

Also - so good to read about things going so well on all fronts - the early-morning biking, and good times with family, and family doing well on their own account, and meditation in the bush - it all adds up to brilliant! :)

Lovely to hear you have gotten into meditation Cate and it's bringing the BP down. That's amazing.

I liked seeing the pictures from near your house, looks peaceful and fresh.

Thanks, mlb, Amy & Em. I enjoy my breakfast. I tried just soaking the oats in water, one night, but ugh. I love the texture when they are soaked in almond milk. The chia seeds really soak up a lot of the mixture.
I loved being able to just add pictures without resizing them but that only lasted for one day! I would love to add just one each day from each walk.
I think the extra medication is probably responsible for bringing the BP down, Em, but the meditation is making me feel really good. My walks feel like a meditation as well & then I find a nice spot, usually under a tree to meditate for at least 5 minutes. I close my eyes & just listen to the sounds. Today I heard my breath after a very steep climb, Forest Ravens, wrens, a chainsaw in the distance, a car on the highway kms away, G splitting wood.....
Today I achieved all of my August goals ✅ incl a 1.79 km hike(11 mins peak heart rate, 14 mins cardio, 9mins fat burn, 10 mins custom-most of that was meditating under a big Blackwood tree. I don't bother pausing my FB when I rest or meditate)
My BP is a bit too low now I think (97/64 this morning!) & I am meant to increase the meds again in a few days. I'll ring the cardio if it stays that low.

I think all that self-care will definitely contribute but of course the meds are important too! :D

Well done on achieving your goals for the day. xx

Today I achieved all of my August goals
Good for you!

I have to comment on your pictures, thank you for posting them. It looks like you live in a very pretty and by my experience quite exotic place. And you own a very nice chunk of it! The ferns are really nice, I have never seen ferns like that. I had to look up wattle to figure that one out, to us a wattle is the flap of skin below the chin. I am guessing you are talking about the Golden Wattle, the official flower of Australia.

Wow, that is impressive how much your son lost in just a few weeks! And I really love hearing about your meditations under the trees - makes me feel calm and happy just reading about it! I think you are doing amazing and that you could even treat yourself to full fat yogurt with all the exercise you are getting. With the low carb diet, good fats are encouraged to curb appetite and provide a source of fuel for when you exercise, and full fat yogurt is great because it still isn't very many calories. But if you are not into doing the full fat things, I empathize completely. I had so much trouble forcing myself to eat full fat things at first from years of avoiding them! Great the new meds are helping you feel better and I hope you can get the dosage just right quickly! Congratulations on achieving all of your goals - you are doing awesome!!!!

Happy to hear you had a successful couple of days! Kudos for completing your goals even though you were feeling under the weather.

I’m not a medical professional, but that BP seems very very low! Did he warn that the numbers might go that far down? Some people run at those numbers just fine, but others find they feel faint easily. Maybe a call in to the office to give him a heads up before you increase?

Really impressed by how varied your regular fitness routine is. That’s what I hope to build for myself, regular and varied physical activity. The tai chi sounds awesome!

Your son is banging on his diet! Awesome!

@alligatorob -Thank you. I like sharing my photos but usually find it too hard here. We do live in a beautiful place & I never take it for granted. We have lots and lots of ferns & trees, mostly acacia's & eucalypts. We also have lots of birds & wildlife, mainly wallabies, pademelons & bandicoots. We rarely see any feral or domestic cats so birds are in abundance. One day I'll list everything we have seen on our land.

@Marsia - Thank you. I'm glad I have turned walking & meditation into a new habit :) D has done very well. He's a bit all or nothing so I hope he keeps it off. It looks to me like his diet is very heavy on protein. He doesn't seem bothered about high salt. "I'll worry about that later". I wish I had been more careful when I was younger.
I can't seem to get my head around full-fat being ok, even though I know that avocadoes are. Full-fat dairy makes me feel squeamish.
You know I don't think it's the meds that are making me feel better. They are bringing my BP right down, but I don't feel great with it. The walking outside & the meditating in the bush I think are what's improving my mood & feeling of well-being.

@davisgirl -Thank you. I do feel good about pushing myself to get out as it pays off with how I feel afterwards. I am going to call the cardio's office if I get another reading lower than 105 over anything as that scared me a bit. It was 99/66 last night again, but was 120/77 this morning. He had warned me that I may get dizzy & to get up & down slowly.
My "regular" fitness routine is definitely a work in progress. I'm working out what suits me best & is sustainable & enjoyable. The walking outside & meditating in the bush & getting at least 4,400 steps per day I think are my new basics. The bike is more a chore.

@Petal001- I'm glad you got to see my pics. There is a spare room (2) for you here if you are ever able to visit xo

It is one of those very raw, overcast & cold days today. G has a head cold * (man flu) * & I'm starting to feel a bit more alive. I woke up feeling really under the weather & couldn't bare even thinking about going out in the cold. I'm still in my dressing gown at 9.30. I think I'll have a shower in about an hour & head off hopefully before it rains.

* Look this up on youtube*

Aw thanks Cate that's very kind .
My husband had tooth ache last week and omg I would have taken man flu over that anytime but I know from experience toothache can be worse than anything .
It sounds like your plan is working for you Cate and all your exercise is paying off . If the head is good the rest will follow .

I mean it, Petal :)
If the head is good the rest will follow .
I think that's the most important thing too. Unfortunately, the weather today has been abysmal. I was all kitted up to head off this afternoon & it bucketed down again. I am going to have to invest in a really good long raincoat. I got on my bike & did 3km, but am not going to meet some of my goals today, unless I get inspired. I have read a whole book & done some housework, & will admit I got a bit peeved with the weather. I need to be better prepared! If I do another 2km on the bike I will allow that to be a substitute for the walk, but it's a very poor one.

When the weather is really dire here I sometimes stick on a Leslie Sansone walk on you tube ( I actually have the app too so will use for the winter ) . It does me when I can’t walk. She is a bit smiley but I don’t mind

I looked up wallabies, pademelons and bandicoots. You have the most adorable wildlife ever!!! I like the man cold song - mine would have not appreciated the song either :)! I think it's good to have a take it easy day sometimes, especially if you are feeling a touch of something coming on. Hope you have a nice relaxing day and don't worry too much if you don't get your bush walk in with all the rain!
