Time to stop thinking that my diet is not THAT bad...!

Mm that soup sounds gorgeous. Not high in calories either for lunch! Well done for doing the gym even after a hard day - I tend to think fuck it if I've had a horrible day at work!
Aha I know exactly what you mean! My usual protocol when I'm in a bad mood is fix myself a gin and tonic and then put a blanket over myself on the sofa and never move. Still, the gym does help once you're there!

I was knackered yesterday. I think working/going out all of last weekend plus working all of this week caught up with me! Did zilch cleaning. Instead, I drank rum and watched League of Gentlemen with my boyfriend. Good enough for a Friday night. I don't what it is about Fridays that makes me crave alcohol. When I did a dry January a couple of years ago I didn't miss it at all until Friday evenings came along. Something in my brain lights up at around 5pm going 'it's the end of the week, you must reward yourself!' :beerchug:(as if going home and taking two days off work isn't a reward in itself). Somehow, drinking a pint of orange squash didn't give me the same satisfaction. Once I 'got through' a Friday night, socialising with people who were drinking alcohol for the rest of the weekend didn't bother me.

I get to see my house for the second time today. So excited! I have about a million pins on my Pinterest board for decor ideas, so I will finally get a better idea of how it will work in practice. We're also going out for a meal tonight. I have been super organised and have already picked what I'm having, as well as a back-up choice in case they don't have it in for whatever reason.

Here's how yesterday went:

Breakfast
1 sausage, half a tomato and a bit of hummus (279 calories, 3g carbs)

Lunch
Spicy chicken salad (approx 400 calories, 17g carbs)

Dinner
Sea bass madras with bean sprouts (448 calories, 16.4g carbs)

Snacks
A couple of chocolates (70 calories, 15g carbs)

Drinks
3 teas, 1 coffee, 1 pint of orange squash (40 calories, 4g carbs)
2 double rums and Diet Coke (200 calories, 0g carbs)
A can of beer (176 calories, 16.4g carbs)

Total - 1,613 calories, 71.8g carbs

A bit high on the calorie front because of the alcohol, but I am happy with those carbs. Would give myself about a 5 out of 10.

Yesterday was a nice day, but not so kind for the diet! Now I've seen my house again I am SUPER excited to move. We haven't got a date yet because we're still waiting on searches, but shouldn't be long now. We did go for a walk around the park, but wouldn't really class it as exercise. My boyfriend's family's dog came and he is about 13-years-old. Even walking the couple of miles that we did was unheard of for him!

Food diary

Breakfast
A sausage, scrambled egg, and tomato (426 calories, 2g carbs)

Lunch - we were at a cafe and I didn't order anything because I wanted to save myself for dinner, but people gave me a bit of their food because they didn't want to eat it all themselves
A mouthful of pork pie and a small bit of a tuna sandwich (approx 100 calories, 10g carbs)

Dinner
Starter - a small piece of bread, hummus, and a stuffed vine leaf (approx 150 calories, 15g carbs)
Main - salmon with rice, salad, and a couple of fries (approx 550 calories, 35g carbs)

Snacks
2 biscuits (150 calories, 14g carbs)

Drinks
2 teas and an orange squash (20 calories, 2g carbs)
1 large glass of red wine (211 calories, 6.8g carbs)
2 pints of beer (402 calories, 35.2g carbs)
1 rum and Diet Coke (50 calories, nil carbs)

Total - approx 2,056 - 2,256 calories (will add in 200 calories since I'm estimating a lot), 120g carbs. Would have been alright without the bloody alcohol. When will I learn! Will give myself a 3 out of 10.

I'm off to see my Gran today. She's 84-years-old and she is quite rigid in her routines now. I now exactly what I'll be eating because it's always the same (half a thin based pizza, followed by fruit, ice cream, and some sort of cake). Will have to try keep the portions small on this one!

Yesterday wasn't great, as expected. Lunch at my gran's was heavier than I would normally have for lunch, but for some reason it didn't hamper my appetite for dinner at all  I did some uni work, and then I met my friend at the pub. We had a bit of a fall out a few weeks ago and last night was more about clearing the air. I kept to diet cokes for the most part, but after the air was officially cleared I felt a bit compelled to have a drink with him so he wasn't getting drunk by himself (oh, the excuses I come up with!)

Food diary:

Breakfast
Leftover chicken, tomato, and chorizo (approx. 260 calories, 8g carbs)

Lunch
Half a pizza and salad (489 calories, 50g carbs)

Dinner
Chicken, chorizo, pepper and potato (approx. 680 calories, 40g carbs)

Snacks
1 small blueberry pie (224 calories, 37g carbs)

Drinks
4 teas, 1 pint of orange squash (40 calories, 4g carbs)
2 cans of diet coke (nil, nil)
2 bottles of beer (262 calories, 22g carbs)

Total – 1,917 calories, 161g carbs

Very meh. Would give myself 3 out of 10.

I've told myself that this week will be saintly. I've got uni all weekend and I haven't made any plans to see friends, so there is no reason why it shouldn't be. (And now I've written this down I can't go back on that!) I'm going dress shopping for a wedding in a couple of weeks, so I want to try to look less...squishy for it. Here is my plan for this week:

- Monday evening – start coursework
- Tuesday evening – gym
- Wednesday evening – seeing mum and dad
- Thursday evening – continue coursework
- Friday evening – gym
- Saturday morning/afternoon – uni
- Saturday evening – continue coursework
- Sunday morning/afternoon – uni
- Sunday evening – finish coursework/gym if there is time

Had a good couple of days! I've lost an inch off my bust, half an inch on my hips, and I'm another pound down.

The main challenge I'm finding is coping with stress. Nearly all of my annual leave and weekends has so far this year been spent doing uni work or going on work placements, so I'm feeling a bit burnt out. I asked my manager if I could take one of my work placements as unpaid leave instead, but it was declined today. I can understand why as they've already let me take my exams unpaid. Still, it put me out slightly. Normally to cheer myself up I would have probably grabbed a bit of chocolate over lunch or had a glass of wine when I got home.

Instead, I went to the shops to try a few clothes during my lunch hour since I'm going on holiday in June. It proved pretty decent motivation (pics below). This is the face behind the author of the posts who is supposedly on a diet, but has reported drinking beer and eating pizza every single weekend! Ever since I pointed this fact out to my boyfriend, he very helpfully started sending me loads of pizza vouchers and taking the piss out of me over WhatsApp while I was at work...:ack2:

A UK size 10 fitted comfortably. I'm only 5'3, so I'm fortunate to have never been in the position where I've had to worry about where I could buy clothes. What I'm after is an aesthetic change. My biggest bugbear is the shape of body below my bellybutton, which I call 'the pouch'. If I could look less like I'm carrying luggage underneath my dress by the time I go on holiday then I will be happy. Hopefully a bit of visual inspiration will do the trick!

Yesterday was just over 1,400 calories and decent carbs. I would write it out but I'm already very tired! In any case, my breakfast and dinner were identical and dinner was probably a little better than today's because I think it had similar calories but less carbs. (I'd probably give it a 7.5 out of 10).

Today's food diary:

Breakfast
1 boiled egg and 25g chorizo (188 calories, 1g carbs)

Lunch
Chicken and veg broth, and a protein bar (459 calories, 33.7g carbs)

Dinner
Sweet and sour chicken with 50g brown rice (764 calories, 120g carbs)

Drinks
4 teas, 2 pints of orange squash, 1 litre of water (40 calories, 3g carbs)

Total 1,451, 157.7g carbs

Obviously the processed stuff could have been better as the carbs weren't great, but otherwise happy with the diet. Would give it a 7 out of 10.

I also went to the gym today. I completely forgot that the normal instructor was on holiday, so the classes were changed a bit. The first one (interval training) was a bit rubbish. The woman who ran kept having to refer to her notes on what the routine was, and it was over far too quickly. However, there were points when I found it difficult (legs started burning at points pretty quickly!) so guess there is always room for improvement. The second one (body attack) was really good. It was the same class I did usually, but with a different routine. The instructor was excellent since she kept us doing stuff right to the very last minute. I think when I finish uni and I have a bit more time to exercise, I will definitely start picking classes according to the best instructors. Would give the day an 8 out of 10.

Awhh, that dress is lovely and so are you :) Your breakfasts make me so hungry - I love chorizo. My uncle is Basque and when we go out to Spain we have chorizo with every meal.

Aww thank you! I haven't bought the dress yet - might use it as incentive if I lose enough weight before my holiday. Ah that sounds amazing! I'm off out for a Spanish meal next weekend. Will definitely get my fill then!

Yesterday was okay. I went to go see my parents last night. I haven't seen my mum in over a month (which is a little silly since I live a 10-minute drive away, but one of those things!). She made me a gin and tonic as soon as I entered the house, and I wasn't saying no! She also made a super effort with the food by buying some posh sauce and vegetables from M&S. I didn't ask how many calories!

Breakfast
1 boiled egg and half an avocado
(239 calories, 9g carbs)

Lunch
Tuna salad with a boiled egg (278 calories, 4g carbs)
Frozen yoghurt (approx 200 calories, 5og carbs)

Dinner
Pork steak with vegetables and new potatoes
(approx 700 calories, 30g carbs)

Drinks
3 teas, 1 pint of orange squash (30 calories, 3g carbs)
3 gins and diet tonic (150 calories, nil carbs)
1 small bottle of beer (131 calories, 11g carbs)

Total - 1,728 - 1,928 (throwing in 200 calories for estimates), 107g carbs

Fairly healthy choices minus the alcohol. Although, there were probably some hidden calories in my dinner since I had no control over what was going into the food. I'd give myself 4 out of 10.

Today has gone fine. I've had all my calories today so I may as well record it now. Normally I'm at the gym Thursdays, but I've got to delay it for tomorrow instead. I'm currently doing some coursework on obtaining planning permission and it is taking FOREVER. I will never be able to look at developers building houses the same way ever again!

Breakfast
Sausage and pepper
(280 calories, 3g carbs)

Lunch
A bit of rice, veg, and a mouthful of meat
(Approx 600 calories, 45g carbs)

Dinner
Cod in tomato sauce, veg, and 50g brown pasta
(482 calories, 67g carbs)

Drinks
3 teas, 3 pints of orange squash (30 calories, 3g carbs)

Total - 1,393 calories, 118g carbs

Fine enough day. I'm still a little bit peckish, but not enough to have a desperate need to snack so I'll leave it. Would give it a 7 out of 10.

...and back to my coursework. Yay...:nopity:

Yesterday was a quiet day. It's the first time in ages I've had the house to myself. I went to the gym, made stirfry exactly how I wanted it (ie. with loads of chilli!), drank wine, and watched whatever I wanted on TV! Nice for a change and pretty low key for a Friday night since I had to go to uni at 9am this morning.

Food diary:

Breakfast
Boiled egg and half an avacado
(239 calories, 9g carbs)

Lunch
Tuna salad (200 calories, 4g carbs)
A packet of maltesers (186 calories, 22.9g carbs)

Dinner
Salmon with stir fry (588 calories, 17g carbs)

Drinks
3 teas, 1 pint of orange squash, and a litre of orange squash (30 calories,3g carbs)
375mls red wine (334 calories, 8g carbs)
1 double gin and diet tonic (100 calories, nil carbs)

Total - 1,677 calories, 63.9g carbs

A bit high on calories because of alcohol, but I am happy with those carbs! Would give myself a 5.5 out of 10 on the diet.

I also went to the gym and tried a new class - Body Combat. I wouldn't rush back. I don't think it's anywhere near as difficult as other classes I've been to, but it did get my heartrate up at least. Body pump afterwards was pretty good. I've been going on-off for years, so I know where I am with it! Would give the whole day a 6.5 out of 10.

Looks like a pretty good day. Dont think anyone would fault you for the wine. There are a few wine drinkers roaming around here
Awesome day.

Thank you! I suppose it's good to have a decent day and still be able to have a treat. Particularly for a Friday!

Yesterday went fine. It was another quiet day. I was at uni until about half 6. My boyfriend got home around about the same time, as he'd been celebrating a friend's 30th birthday and stayed over at his parents' house. We decided to stay in and get a dine for £10 deal at M&S. We were shocked that they don't include wine in the deal anymore! Pudding was the option instead. I chose not to eat mine, so my crème brûlée is still in the fridge. Will probably treat myself when I've had a long day at work.

Food diary:

Breakfast
Peanut butter on toast
(250 calories, 20g carbs)

Lunch
Leftover stir fry veg with chorizo
(480 calories, 17g carbs)

Dinner
A mix of things since my boyfriend and I shared our main meals and sides between us
Chicken and chorizo paella, warm coronation chicken, potato, and broccoli
(approx. 600 calories, 50g carbs)

Drinks
2 teas and a pint of orange squash (20 calories, 2g carbs)
A cosmopolitan (212 calories, 24g carbs)
2 large (200 calories, nil carbs)

Total - 1,762 calories, 113g carbs

Above my calories since I was foiled again by alcohol! I've started to notice a pattern in that my food calories are always the same, and whenever I drink it brings me over. That wouldn't be a problem if I was exercising more, but I haven't got the time to dedicate to that. Will need to figure out a way of making my calories last more over the weekend. Would probably give myself 4.5 out of 10.

I'm at uni again today (currently in the library on my lunch break hoping that nobody is reading over my shoulder!). While I'm at it I may as post how today has gone so far:

Breakfast
Half an avocado and pepperoni
(257 calories, 9g carbs)

Lunch
Quorn mince with tomato and veg
(203 calories, 18g carbs)

This the first weekend of this diary that I haven't eaten pizza. Can't believe how many times it snuck into my diet. I've also found the time to go swimming after uni. Hooray for more exercise and no pizza!

The rest of today went well enough! I haven't been swimming in ages, and it was a lot easier than I was expecting. Did 45 minutes in total.

Rest of food:

A protein bar (223, 23g carbs)

Dinner
Turkey mince with hard shell tacos and salad (626 calories, 59g carbs)

Drinks - 2 teas, 2 pints of orange squash (20 calories, 2g carbs)

Total - 1,356 calories and 111g carbs.

I'm pretty pleased today! Super happy I looked into buying tacos. They're a lot less calories/carbs than rice, and it still makes you feel as though you are having something with your food rather than just eating a plate of meat and veg. Would give myself an 8.5 for the overall day factoring in the exercise :)

They don't do wine in the meal deal anymore?! Tesco does, I'm sure. Food sounds fab!
Yeah I think you're right about Tesco. Think last time we did something like that was Valentine's Day where they threw everything into the deal, so we were used to that.

I'm set up to have a very fun week seeing friends and family for drinks and meals out. This of course means that it will be a horrendous one for dieting. This is the plan this week:

Monday ✔
Morning - uni work before actual jobs starts ✔
Evening - gym ✔

Tuesday
Morning - uni work before job
Evening - meal and drinks with a friend

Wednesday
Morning - uni work
Lunchtime - meal out to celebrate a colleague's birthday
Evening - uni work

Thursday
Morning - uni work
Evening - gym

Friday
Morning - uni work
Evening - night in with family to celebrate mum's birthday
(alcohol and buffet food have been mentioned)

Saturday
Morning - gym
(hopefully if I get up in time!)
Afternoon - dress/holiday shopping
Evening - Meal out and drinks with family and boyfriend

Sunday
Uni work and cleaning

So, it would have been great if I had a good loss to set me up since this week will be (at best) a maintaining week. I found out when I weighed myself at the gym that I have gained a quarter of a pound! Argh. I know a quarter is nothing, but a loss would have been better! I'm doing my measurements tomorrow morning since I normally check my progress on Tuesdays. Who knows. I might have shrunk!

Today went fine. Went to the gym after work. Did Body Pump for an hour, which I enjoyed. I didn't fancy the class afterwards because it would have meant getting an 8pm bus home. I will need to be mindful of the fact that I haven't worked as hard at the gym as I would on a Tuesday.

Food diary

Breakfast
A fried egg and pepperoni
(174 calories, 1g carbs)

Lunch
Chicken and veg broth (238 calories, 10.2g carbs)
A protein bar (223 calories, 22g carbs)

Dinner
Leftover turkey mince with hardshell tacos and salad (430 calories, 42g carbs)
A small bit of bread with taziki (150 calories, 12g carbs)

Drinks
3 teas, a pint of orange squash (30 calories, 3g carbs)

Total - 1,245 calories, 90g carbs

A fairly good day. Would give myself 8 out of 10 :)

I did my measurements yesterday. I'm down half an inch on my bust. This means that my overall progress for the last month has been:

147lbs - 142 1/4lbs
4 3/4 pounds down

Bust 37 inches to 35.5 inches
1.5 inches down

Waist 29 inches to 28 inches
1 inch down

Hips 40 inches to 39.5 inches
0.5 inch down

Typical pear shape. I lose all the weight on top and my hips don't -lie-shrink.

Yesterday was nice. Caught up with a friend I haven't seen since Christmas. Went for Japanese food and had a couple of drinks.

Breakfast
Boiled egg and half an avocado
(257 calories, 9g carbs)

Lunch
Chicken salad (249, 22g carbs)
A packet of popcorn (87, 11g carbs)

Dinner
Fried avocado and chilli (200 calories, 12g carbs)
Chilli chicken ramen (700 calories, 70g carbs)

Drinks
3 teas and a pint of orange squash (30 calories, 2g carbs)
1 large glass of red wine (203 calories, 5g carbs)
1 small glass of red wine (120 calories, 3g carbs)

Total - 1,873 calories, 134g carbs

Definitely not a diet day but not a disaster either. Would give myself 3.5 out of 10.

Today was a colleague's birthday. People were eating sweets by 9am! I did give in a have some cake, but wasn't horrendous. Went for a nice meal out for lunch. Everyone else had burger and chips, so the healthiness of my choice seemed to stand out like a sore thumb!

Breakfast
Boiled egg and half an avocado
(257 calories, 9g carbs)

Lunch
Salmon with salad
(approx 500 calories, 22g carbs)

Dinner
Smoked haddock curry with courgette (385 calories, 35g carbs)

Snacks
A small piece of cake and a few bits of chocolate (250 calories, 23g carbs)

Drinks
3 teas, 1 coffee, a pint of water, and a pint of orange squash (40 calories, 4g carbs)
250ml beer (110 calories, 9.3g carbs)

Calories - 1,582 calories, 102.3g carbs

Better than yesterday, although still doesn't feel like a diet! Would give myself 4.5 out of 10.

Last couple of nights I have been absolutely shattered. I've also been craving alcohol a bit more, which is probably a sign that I'm slightly stressed. I could do with a day off on Saturday to recharge my batteries. Only 2 more days to go!

I always want wine when I'm stressed :( Enjoy your day off on Sat! Well done for making good choices when you're out and about, always makes it harder!

Hi :)
I just have to ask - what is "Dinner
Fried avocado and chilli"?? It sounds delicious!!

Reading your diary has reminded me what a great motivation it is to take measurements! In 4.75 pounds, you've lost 3 inches!! That's fantastic :)

Good to know I'm not the only one! I felt it a bit today as well, but as soon as I was at the gym after work it seemed to do the trick. And thank you! It's good to be out, just need to plan ahead is all.

Hi :)
I just have to ask - what is "Dinner
Fried avocado and chilli"?? It sounds delicious!!

Reading your diary has reminded me what a great motivation it is to take measurements! In 4.75 pounds, you've lost 3 inches!! That's fantastic :)

I was at a Japanese restaurant. My friend ordered fried avocado and I ordered fried chilli. A bit unhealthy since I think it was deep-fried, but we were sharing starter portions so won't have been terrible. It was a lovely meal!

And thank you! I'm pleasantly surprised with the measurements. When my weight gets down to comfortably within the 'healthy' range I think I'll be concentrating more on exercise and inches, since the scales won't matter as much.

I've had quite an eventful day, although none of it is really diet related. We got a call with a provisional date that we'll be officially buying our house - 9th June! We weren't expecting it to be THAT soon. Turns out that our seller's baby is due on the 16th June, so they want to be in their new house by then. Doesn't help that our solicitor has been horribly slow and never returns our phone calls. As a result, my stroppy letter writing has been out in full force.

I also received my exam results from last March, which was a distinction. I'm so relieved! We didn't find out until 2pm today, so one of my work friends who also takes the same course as me was giving me nervous looks all morning. It takes the pressure off uni work slightly because I now only need a merit to obtain a distinction overall. Looks like everything is slowly but surely falling into place :)

Today went well enough. I'm aching LOADS from the gym, which can only be a good thing. Boot camp and body pump seem to be a good combination.

Breakfast
Protein weetabix with skimmed milk
(175 calories, 30g carbs)

Lunch
Chicken and vegetable broth, and a protein bar
(461 calories, 34g carbs)

Dinner
Sweet and sour chicken with beansprouts
(685 calories, 63g carbs)

Snacks
1 packet of popcorn
(87 calories, 11g carbs)

Drinks
4 teas, 500ml water, 1 pint of orange squash (40 calories, 4g carbs)

Total - 1,448 calories, 142g carbs

A bit of a carby day, but I am pleased overall since I worked hard at the gym. Would give myself 7.5 out of 10 today.

All I know is fried avocado sounds like probably THE most delicious thing I can think of!!
Congrats on the new house - it sounds like you have a lot of exciting things on your plate :)

Weetabix the name was so odd just had to look it up. Looks interesting....

Haha I forget that you don't have that across the pond! It's quite a savoury cereal. Very filling!

Congrats on your distinction babe! Can't believe your move is so soon!! Maaaah, are you ready?!

Thank you :D Nowhere near ready! Luckily my family are helping me because I can't take time off work. Going to start cleaning and packing tomorrow so wheels can be set in motion.

Congrats on the new house - it sounds like you have a lot of exciting things on your plate :)

It was great! I love Japanese food. And thank you!! 2017 is turning out to be a rather exciting (and busy!) year.

In diet news, yesterday was very boozy! It was my mum's birthday and she wanted me over to chill and drink prosecco with her at the house. I didn't tell my family that I've been dieting, so I was quite pleased when they pointed out that it looked like I'd lost weight. Apparently I look thinner in the face and my legs look muscular.

The diet looked like this ie. not really a diet!

Breakfast
A boiled egg and quorn mince with veg
(187 calories, 14g carbs)

Lunch
Quorn mince with veg and 2 hardshell tacos
(322 calories, 27g carbs)

Dinner
A mixture of ready meal Chinese food. I kept away from the deep-fried and sugary options, so it won't have been too bad hopefully!
(Approx 600 calories, 50g carbs)

Snacks
Some crisps
(150 calories, 18g carbs)

Drinks
3 teas, 1 pint of orange squash (30 calories, 3g carbs)
4 glasses of prosecco (392 calories, 12g carbs)
4 large gins and diet tonic (400 calories, nil carbs)

Total - 2,081 - 2,281 calories (threw 200 for estimates) and 124g carbs

Pretty bad day! Would probably give myself 2.5 out of 10. I am noticing that I am bit more educated about what's high in calorie/carbs, so I do seem to be better at picking better stuff than I would have been a month ago...even if nearly 800 calories was on alcohol. Cringe!
