From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

Herzlichen Dank meiner fantastischen Freund! Google Translate macht mich scheinen so weltlichen .

249.8 this morning for -6.2 pounds since Monday. 1.24 pounds a day sure would be nice to maintain, that honeymoon rate will be over soon. I'm hopeful it will last a while longer and get me past that previous low (248.8). I've had periods that I really got after it and didn't lose much weight. The whole of October I ran a 5K every day and did well overall with my diet and lost less weight that month than the past 5 days. I have no other explanation than that I've had problems with vinegar well before I figured it out and that kept the weight up. If you do really well for a few days with no results then you get frustrated and tend to let things slide. So now I know it doesn't have to be a creeping struggle to get the weight off I am truly on my way to maintenance weight. I know it will get tougher soon enough, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

51.8 pounds to go to 198.
Just 1.2 pounds to a new all time low.
In 10 pounds I'll be out of the BMI obese category.
I'll do a waist/belly measurement and body fat measurement once I'm under 248.8.

I'll do a long run tomorrow, it's doubtful that a 9 mile plus run will happen or should happen, but I'll play it by ear.

Thanks Cate! I've updated the old sig.

So I went a little bonkers this evening. 9.1 miles in 2:11:58. I started off slow and only got slower, but 9.1 hilly road miles for a 2.1 mile distance PR. The 7 mile previous PR was at Thanksgiving and day 365 of the runstreak so this is more impact on my body than I've done before. I may have to re-figure my goals based on how this one makes me feel. I'm just super tired and sore so far.

Congrats Quercus! Is this your first time running that far? That's a fantastic gain on PR!

I used to do half and full marathons but am way too out of shape for that now. I'm trying to get myself to build back up to that slowly. Do you run straight, or do 10:1 run-walk or something like that? How often are you running now?

Amazing! I hope you slept like a log last night and aren't too sore. I can't stress how much I admire your ability to make a goal and stick with it. Very impressive, sir.

Wow! Thank you so much everyone! You all know how to make a guy feel great.

Firstly, I selfishly neglected to mention that E ran the same distance with me.

Baboon that was the furthest I've ever ran. I ran every step and I run at least one mile each day.

So the weight bounced up to 252.4 this morning which I expected. I kept calories to 2,300 yesterday so that's all water retention. I'm sore from head to toe. I managed a slow mile for day 438 of the runstreak this evening after walking and stretching a bit. I'll be good on calories today and I've drank a ton of water. My right knee did great which is a relief.

Hey Q... just noticing your most recent weigh in and had to comment that we're not that far apart! Great to see you're making such awesome progress! :D

Thanks LaMa!
Thanks Cate!
Thanks Mandy!

Still sore, but not as bad. I ate about 2,300 calories today. All vegan whole foods and I was really hungry. I finished a less slow mile in the cold tonight.

252.4 again this morning.

252.4 again. I find it odd that there is zero variation in my weight since Saturday. I'm not concerned about it being up, but my weight is never this stable. I expect it will lead to a big drop. I will try to hit 2,000 today to help get things moving again.

You know, I've always wanted to ask you something.

I went running last night for the first time in a while. It's cold here - somewhere in the 20's most days - and I have a hard time breathing in the cold. It just sucks, you know? Anyway, your running streak is nearing a year-and-a-half which means you have definitely had to run in the cold before, many times. How do you do it? Do you wear something on your face? Like, dude...it's hard to breath out there, man!!!

I run in the cold all the time after all I am up in Canada -lol. I have run in -40. Funny thing is you never need as many clothes as you think you do. My -40 running gear involves some kind of base layer, long sleeve shirt, running pants of some kind, cold weather socks, same old running shoes, gloves ( I usually use some type of cold weather running glove), toque, and a balaclava ( don't stop at a convenience store without taking this off though-lol). I am cold to begin with but once I get going - I warm up in a hurry. I am never toasty warm but am comfortable. After the run- get inside asap. I find after a long run at this temp you get cold very quickly- you know that kind of cold that seems to hit your very core? So shower or hot tub is fantastic for getting warm again. We have a 1/2 marathon up here that is called the Hypothermic Half. It is run this month. We can't get away from the cold so we have to embrace it-lol. Although I would much rather run in the cold than the heat- I would rather live in the heat-haha.

Chef, Cowboy's recommendations would be the authority on legitimate cold weather.

As far as breathing goes, I have asthma so cold air sets me off. I tried a fleece gaiter and balaclava but they get wet and hard to breathe through. I finally found a neoprene half mask designed for motorcycle riders. It has round holes offset by the stiff neoprene in front of your mouth. That lets me breathe freely while warming the air enough. Mine is Zan brand and under $10. My wife bought one too.

Ok, until I saw these posts I had no idea what a balaclava was so I looked it up. And, as soon as I saw one I went, "Ooooh, THAT'S what its called?"

Anyway, I think that would be a good idea for me when I run in the cold. I'm thinking the layer over my nose and mouth will warm the air just enough to not bother me too much. Now, the only question is "What kind do I order?" As of now, I'm thinking this one...for obvious reasons.
