From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

Okay so it was such fun at the pity party I threw for myself this weekend, but now it's Monday and time to suck it up buttercup. I have pre-made all 3 meals for the week. I'm going to try to ease the running forward this week and work in some upper body strength and stretching too. 254.0 this morning.

Pity parties can be heaps of fun but glad you're back into the Monday routine. Pre-making meals with known ingredients seems like a very solid plan and here's hoping it keeps those unwanted reactions away.

Thanks K&D, LaMa, and Cate!
I've stuck with the bland food except for nuts and chips which are safe. My stomach was still bothering me so I decided to take some probiotics that had helped before when I had to take a strong antibiotic before. I feel much better now and I think that coupled with the steroid has gotten the inflammation under control. I will be careful how and what I reintroduce into my diet, but I'm optimistic. I have done some stretching but my knee isn't wanting to ramp up yet.

Three meals...for the WEEK? Did I miss something here? Or, did you mean "day?"

Hope you continue to get stronger Q & that you are able to safely get some flavour back into your food soon. Have a lovely weekend with E xo

Hi Quercus, I am a long time member that is just coming back after a couple of years. I have not read all of your diary yet but I plan to. The little that I did read sounds very much like my story except I am older. Started at 320 and went down to 175. So it can be done. I am also a runner and running help me get the weight off. I am about 190 now 4 years after the initial loss so I am managing to keep most of it off. Keep up the good work. You can do this. It is all about attitude and perseverance. Oh and not eating cake-lol!!

All 3 meals for the week Chef.

Thanks LaMa, K&D, and Cate! I've eaten quite a few new things over the weekend with no troubles.

Hi Cowboy! I remember your being around when I was new here. Great job keeping it off!

So we took a half day Friday and headed off to Austin. We had a great time! I snacked pretty heavy, but ate my pre-made meals all weekend. We saw a great music/art show at a gallery last night and met with some people that have started a tea company using a native shrub that I make tea from also. We had great coffee and did a lot of shopping for books and clothes. We are driving home now. I got a nice food diary that I will start tomorrow. I will try to share more here and be more active here in general. It's time to head for the weight loss finish line and start furthering my running career.

That sounds like an excellent weekend. I'm heading for the weight-loss finish line too now Q. I have 6.5kg to go to get to my 'ideal' weight. (I dropped it 5kg) We can do this! I also want to feel really fit again. I have been lazy lately. It will be nice to have you back in here more often. I miss you & Vee when you're not about much, xoC

Glad the number of items on the can eat list is growing and look forward to seeing you press on to the goal for weight and running. Picked a February running goal yet?

Thanks Cate! We certainly can. It's nice to be missed. I've missed keeping up with you too. It's good to be back.

Thanks K&D! I don't have a set goal. I have to kind of keep it flexible to see how my knee holds up. It felt pretty good tonight so I will gradually increase the mileage for a bit and go from there. I do have and idea of increasing my long runs to reach 26.2 miles @ 198 pounds. Whatever tomorrow's weight is (awful) it will be coupled with my current PR of 7 miles. So pounds to lose divided by 19.2 miles to gain and I'll do 1 long run a week with the mileage increased by the pounds time that calculated multiplier. That way, the more I lose the further I run. Keeping the joint impacts in line with my current PR/weight and hitting marathon distance at my goal weight. Also coupling my running and weight loss progress.

O wow, those are some mighty goals! Sounds like you had a fun weekend and picked up a lot of motivation from it. Good times :)

I love that running plan! And will also love you being around more. I definitely come and go, too, but life is so much better when I'm here regularly. Your mini-Austin getaway sounds just lovely!

Like the plan. When I did a half marathon a few years back while I was still 245 and it really started impact me towards the second half of the run. Have you experimented with walk/run on any of your longer runs? Found when I first started increasing distance a one minute walk break on set intervals really helped lower the impact and improve recovery time. Also didn't notice any slow down of overall pace as I ran faster on the running portions and was able to maintain a steady pace throughout.

Hi,

I actually do the 10 minutes running, 1 minute walk system. They promote it in the Running Room up here in Canada. I wasn't sure when I first started but it really helped me to get into running. It doesn't actually add much time to your actual running time as it allows the lactic acid to subside and let's you catch your breath as well. Plus you can stretch a little or grab a drink. I actually ran my first 1/2 marathon in 2:06 the day I turned 50 using this system. You actually finish the run or race as fast as you started. Might be something to look at or try.

Thanks for the love and great advice. So far I haven't been taking walk breaks. I'd prefer to do it without them, but that may not be wise or possible. We shall see.

So 256.0 this morning which is up a couple pounds from before the long weekend.

So 19.2 miles divided by 58 pounds is about 1/3 mile per pound. So whatever I lose this week times a third will be what's tacked on the 7 mile PR if the knee will cooperate. I'll do weight the day of the run which will be Saturday or Sunday.
