What a great idea! I will def use this and welcome any and all messages.

I started trying to lose weight/get healthy/get my mojo back on Jan 4, 2016. (yea, yea a "new years resolution")

At that time, I weighed 282lbs. I am a 5'11" male, former athlete.

As of today, Feb 29 2016 I weigh 260lbs.

I started out by doing the "21 day fix" and using a FitBit Surge combined with my smart phone. I followed it to the letter for 19 days. I lost about 10lbs.

Since then, I have continued using my FitBit, eating smart (mostly) and counting my calories.

I am happy with my progress.

Starting at 282, I set my first goal for 250lbs. I have 10 pounds to go!

I will keep posting here every few days.

Id really like it if people interacted with me along the way.

Thanks all.

Nice new year resolution:) and congratulations, you are doing good. I heard about the FitBit for the first time, it seems something useful..

It really has been a useful tool.

Track steps, calories burned, you can input calories taken in....etc.

It has a lot of cool motivational stuff too....goal setting, etc.

Anyway, thanks of the response. Glad to be here and I will continue to update my journal with my progress!

Welcome to the forum, John.

I, too, am a former athlete so I know the struggle. Once upon a time I was in good physical condition. And, now? Now I'm just a fat piece of crap with a dad body. But, that's why we're here though, isn't it? To change that?

Good luck.

Justs a quick update....not a huge deal but I finally cracked the 260 mark. I am now at 258.8!

8.8 lbs to my first goal and then it will be time to reassess and set a new one. This update is an important one for me because I had a brief set back that would normally have completely derailed me, and this time I just shrugged my shoulders and got back it.

Thanks everyone and keep it up!

It is a big deal! Well done on-
I had a brief set back that would normally have completely derailed me, and this time I just shrugged my shoulders and got back it.
That is a big achievement. We all have setbacks, but it's how you deal with them that matters.

Woww...:jump:Congratulations, John. Do not give up, you got to DO IT!
I appreciate you for not getting derailed and getting back to the tracks.

Hey all....good news here....I am keeping it rolling! Down to 255.

Thats 27lbs lost now. I actually went out and shot some hoops yesterday too.

Hope you are all doing well and making steady progress towards your goals!

Slow and steady everyone!

Great job!!! Keep it up! :)

Thanks! Ive got a bit of a test coming up....Im gonna be in Hawaii for 10 days (I know, I know- "woe is me", right?)

But traditionally, vacations have been one of the times I get seriously off track.

One good thing is, we will be doing a ton of hiking and other physical activities while there....just have to be as disciplined as I can with all the new delicious food I will get to try.

You poor thing. Sounds like you'll be busy. Just make good food choices, and I'm sure you'll be fine. It's a vacation though.. enjoy it! :) Make sure to come back and tell us all about it. I have to live vicariously through someone. haha!

:iagree: with Jen. Enjoy your vacation & tell us all about it when you get home please.

Aloha everyone. I am back from Hawaii and man was it awesome. I cannot recommend the island of Kauai enough.

Thats the good news...the bad news is I gained 8 pounds while I was there! And that was with a fairly significant amount of exercise....

But, I am undeterred! I got back in the swing of things this morning and will keep grinding until I lose 13lbs to make my first goal weight of 250.

The set back was worth it, I assure you.

As soon as I figure out how to post pics, I will.

Welcome back. I'm glad you had a great time. Most of the gain will be water weight & will go quickly if you're strict & cut down on starchy carbs especially.

Probably mostly water weight, I hope most of those 8lbs drops quickly! I always retain extra fluid after flying which takes a few days to go.

Thanks Ana and Cate...you were both indeed right! I am back down to 258 this morning, meaning I probably only gained 3 lbs. Which I can live with.

Onward and upward!

Thanks all!
