Strengthening the Knees

Any suggestions as to what exercises will help without exerting too much strain initially? Weighted quats and lunges are to supposed to develop the quads which in turn help stabilise the knees - anything else I should look to do that might perhaps be a little less intense to start with?

Thanks

To strengthen the synergists around the knees try working with a BOSU trainer. At first, just stand on it flat side up with a slight bend in your knees. As you become more proficient you can body weight squats while standing on it. Activities performed while standing on a BOSU can really help strengthen the muscles that support the knee. The soft side is better for ankle work.

It depends: what's wrong with your knees?

Thanks, I'll check that out. Which muscles would I be looking at in particular?

Fortunately, nothing. I'm starting up a new flexiblity regime that relies the knees to be well supported. as well as stregthening all the muscles in the legs/waist.

As long as exercises are performed correctly then the knees shouldn't have any problems. If you want you can wear a knee brace to help support. As for exercises the bosus can help as Adler said. Working on flexibility can also help improve alot.
