Stuff I've been wondering

First off let me say that none of this has to do with my own training I was just wondering about this.
1. If someone ate an all clean diet in a calorie surplus but lifted for strength(5x5 heavy weight) rather than lifting for hypertrophy what would be the outcome?Would they gain any muscle mass, would it affect the strength gains in a neg. or pos. way, or would it give them the double benefit of the desired mass and strength?

2. If someone ate an all clean diet in a calorie surplus but only worked on one or two muscle groups, like biceps and calves and lifted for hyp, would they get huge muscle gains in those areas because all the calories being used for those two groups, or would it still be the same if they did a FBW ?

they would gain muscle size.

If they did isolation exercises for those muscle groups, growth probobly wouldnt be that great. And if they did a FBW with compound movements, and the isolation, they would probobly experience more growth. Big lifts like squats and deads jack up your growth hormone levels, and that helps everything grow.

1) Training for strength will also cause size gains (assuming you have a decent routine) just like training for size will also give you strength gains.

2) Chances are you might not gain much, as Karky said you need to put your largest muscles under stress to get the highest level of hormonal response to stimulate growth. Not only that but IMO you're going to see better results in your biceps by using them as a stabalizing muscle in a big compound lift than you would by targeting them in a lighter isolation move

I agree.
I used to do 4 different types of curls. I went up maybe 5 pounds in 6 months?

After I gave up curls and started compound movements that use biceps (pullups, rows) I went back to do curls once after a month (just because I like to see the pump:rolleyes:) and a weight I had tremendous difficulty curling earlier went up very very easily.
