How long does a workout affect the appearance of your muscles?

Hi Guys,

I was just wondering generally how long after a workout do your muscles appear pumped up more? An hour? Few hours?? 30 minutes??

I'd guess this will be different for different people though?

Haha I guess that could be a useful reason for knowing.

I want to know so that when I take a picture of myself I want to be "un-pumped" to see the true progress compared to my before pictures. Also just out of general interest and what is it that makes the muscles appear more visible and defined after working out.
 
If you want to take un-pumped pictures then take your pictures when you first get up outta bed. The muscle looks more visible and defined after a workout because its engorged with blood so it looks bigger.
 
After I wake up, my traps are all weird and my shoulders are brought up more than usual. An hour or two of sitting on my ass watching T.V. later and I look normal again (I don't do any exercise in this hour or two). I'd wait an hour or so after you wake up, but I don't do any exercise

Yup id go with that! think its summat to do with me sleepin with ma arms UNDER me sometimes so the shoulders get pulled a certain way!.. also i find my abs are REALLY clear in the morning.. cud b cuz i hvnt eaten but dunno..

I'm a really flexible guy. I can put both of my feet over my head. As such, this is not an uncomfortable position for me. My mom found me asleep oncei n my room. I was asleep doing a hurdler stretch. haha

haha lol ur like ma 2yr old nephew, the lucky git can stick his legs behind his head without even tryin, he'll jus sit ther n do it so nonchalantly like but u KNOW he's actually thinkin "ooh look at me, im so bendy!"..

iv lost a lot of ma bendiness ova time,, got a m8 who can make like a C shape if he bends over, like a PROPER C shape or mor like a sideways U, its scary! lol bt thats gna b on my to-do list, atm im bulkin to a more appropriate bodyweight n then its gna b cardio, n then everythin else like balance n bendiness and im GONNA find out what all that pylometrics or whatver its called is all about.. looks fun!!.. plenty of time 4 that tho..
 
haha yeah, I used to be able to touch my hands behind my back and my arms would be perpendicular to the ground. I could also hold them together and bring them over my head and down to my butt.

Bench press changed that. I'm very inflexible upper body wise now.

if you want to take a "cold" picture, take it before your workout...
