my workout good or bad

Okay i will add squats into my routin and i am reading the stickies. Now food i do not eat a ton but when i do eat i eat a ton of chicken and steak but i do get in junk food. I understand that junk food is bad but eating a little a week, will that effect me?

I'm not too knowledgable in terms of diet, but I know the less junk food the better.

Not just squats, but deadlifts as well. It is important to develop the posterior chain.

Get The New Rules of Lifting.

i never do more than 20 crunches, as it gets easier i just squeeze harder at the top,250 is pointless IMO and im guessing but i would say you are probably cheating by throwing your weight up, rather than using your abs to squeeze yourself up.

20 crunches in a set? or just 20 crunches then you are done. Becasue you are weak for 20 crunches.

That isn't true... There are correct ways to do crunches, and there are incorrect ways to do crunches. Anyone can incorrectly do many many crunches. If all you do is jerk your head up and down over and over that isn't a crunch.

Sine you are asking for advice maybe it would be better not to call those helping you weak and such.

Ok but 20 crunches? That barley burns and i do them the correct way. I do 50 to the front. Then 50 to each side. Then 50 to the front again. Then 25 to each side. Slow using my abs to bring me up.

Well, since I ahve not seen you do crunches, I cannot judge whether or not you do them correctly.

Just keep in mind that "crunches" mean different things for different people. Speed, and form are key factors.

Personally, I cannot say anything much for crunches because I think my abs get enough work while stabilizing (abs are stabilizers after all) for big compound movements like deadlifts and squats. This isn't to say that crunches are bad, I just don't do them.

I understand, i have seen amazing improvment in my ab devolment and that makes me want to do them more and it is working.

Your goal is to build strength correct? The ab muscles were not made to work alone. There are few if any realworld events that require the isolation (though there isn't any true isolation of a muscle group) of a muscle group.

If your abs are already good, crunches probably won't really help. You can probably get more ab works from doing the big compound movements.

Your workout should be centered around primary body motions, squatting, deadlifting, pushing, pulling, etc. Working your body in isolated parts is not the best way to go about promoting strength.

Ask protein boy about my abs they are very good. The devlopemnt is way different from what you think.

what?

I didn't know that protein boy had special knowledge of your abs...

Developement of your abs or abs in general? I know for a fact that abs are used as stablizers.

Whatever dude, my advice for you is to do full body workouts 3x a week I'm sure PB will help you with that take fomr that what you will.

i understand that and i am doing htta now thank you and he has seen a picture of them.

i dont think protein boy would disagree with Daves advice here.. but if you think he will, then why dont you just send a PM and ask him?

if crunches develope your abs, great.
just think what kind of progress you can make if you get a good routine incorporating squats and deadlifts.
theres so many better exercises that will sculpt your abs than crunches :D

Crunches really tone and define the abs, this is a new one on me. (they do no such thing). Getting the abs to show and show its definition is 95% diet, and----the 5% I leave to exercising the core torso and rest. But genetics willing (core composition), one CAN produce abs without a SINGLE ab exercise. Abs are simply a function of low body fat--A-Number 1, and function of correct diet that accompanies a full body workout program.

after i have done heavy
squat
bench
deads
dips
chins
millitary-press
then i do some crunches flat/left/right 60 total
compounds will work your abs better than crunches, but as i said before once they get easy squeezing harder and longer at the top is better than doing pointless hundreds.

yeah, and focus on using the abs to pull you up, not the hip flexors.
Im not saying the hip flexors WONT be used, but if you want to target the abs, focus on pulling with them, alot of people seem to use more of their hip flexors than nessecary.
