A Short-Term Diet That Worked

Well, I'm a newb at the whole health scene, but one day I decided to try something new after many years of being overweight. I finally got fed up when I hit 203 pounds @ 5 foot 9 inches. The diet I'm about to describe has been abandoned because it only worked during a long break period from college and when I got back, dealing with the stress, lack of sleep and dieting was too demanding.

The diet was very much based on time, quite strictly:

10:00AM: 120-150 grams of lean protein (usually 3 eggs, tuna or chicken) mixed with 3 tablespoons of salsa and I chopped up an entire onion into the mixture. This would be accompanied by two pieces of whole grain toast bread and sometimes a fruit, usually a banana.

2:00PM: Lunch. This consisted of a single protein shake that I felt filled me up and killed off any bit of hunger I had until dinner time. The shake consisted of either 1% or 2% milk (250 ml or 1 cup), 125 ml of natural Tropicana fruit juice and two scoops of protein powder (16g protein per scoop) It tasted pretty good too!

7:00PM: Home-made dinner by mom. Usually Mediterranean, Italian or Middle-Eastern dishes, but sometimes very basic meals (chicken, potatoes, salad) I'd take a fist and a half portion of meat, a plateful of salad, half a fist of carb-based food and avoided bread completely.

Throughout the day, I'd drink close to a gallon or 4L of water, spread out of course.

That is 100% all that my diet consisted of, nothing more, nothing less. I did not do any exercise whatsoever, however, I did go out more often walking around shopping centers and going downtown a lot more often, just walking around a lot. After 6 weeks, I dropped to 173 pounds. I've gone off the diet for a few weeks now and there hasn't been much of on increase. I presently weigh in at 176 pounds.

So yeah, that's my story.

I didn't incorporate any cardiovascular exercise at all, but I did start walking around outside more than usual, but it was casual outings (going to the mall, going downtown, etc).

thats all well and good, but as soon as you increase your caloric intake your weight will also increase..... Dieting alone will never lead to long term weight losses becasue of the restriction placed on what and how much you can eat. Changing your eating habbits, and what you eat along with a healthy amount of excersise will not only see you enjoying life much more, but will allow for changes in your weight to stick.
