Low fat Candy bar or honey in place of Dextrose?

My friend says that one can substitute a low fat candy bar or a scoop of honey instead of using Dextrose in his post work out shake and that it is just as effective. Is this true.

And how essential is Dextrose to a post workout shake?

My friend also says the purpose of dextrose, the honey or whatever is to renew energy post workout. However, isn't the main purpose of dextrose to help one better absorb protein post workout?

I told my friend that dextrose was a simple sugar that helps one better absorb protein with your protein shake post workout. this was his response!!

WillFlexForFoood: its a bleeping isomer
WillFlexForFoood: dextrose is a mother bleeeping isomer
WillFlexForFoood: its one of the aldohexose sugers
WillFlexForFoood: d-glucose
WillFlexForFoood: its found naturally as an aqueious solution
WillFlexForFoood: and is abundant in bleeping honey
WillFlexForFoood: the use of glucose as an aenergy source in cells is via AEROBIC or ANAEROBIC respiration
WillFlexForFoood: both of these start in the glycolosysis metabolioc pathway
WillFlexForFoood: its the breakdown of the hexokinase to prepare for the breakdown into energy
WillFlexForFoood: HONEY
WillFlexForFoood: a GLUCOSE such as HONEY
WillFlexForFoood: is critical in the production of proteins and pipid metabolism

I said that there is no way honey can be used instead of dextrose he wrote.

WillFlexForFoood: just bleeping trust what i say
WillFlexForFoood: i dont like bleeping explaining evbeyr little thing to you
WillFlexForFoood: its too much bleeping typing
WillFlexForFoood: i knwo what im talking abotu
WillFlexForFoood: jsut bleeping listen to me

Please help me. can I take a spoon full of honey instead of dextrose and get ALMOST the same effect?

Also he said this about dextrose basically that at my fitness level which is one of an overweight person but who has been loosing weight. I'm about 200 pounds and 6 ft tall, but on a cutting diet that it wouldn't be beneficial to me.

WillFlexForFoood: dextrose is miniscule
WillFlexForFoood: its not a make or break supp
WillFlexForFoood: its nothing
TomaHawk: LV said it was absolutely essential
WillFlexForFoood: my adipokine levels are so high that i can utiklize a scoop of hoeny just as well as you can utilize a scoop of dextrose
WillFlexForFoood: no its not at all
TomaHawk: supplements as a whole arnt make or break
WillFlexForFoood: its not essential if your not utilizing it
WillFlexForFoood: and yrou nto at the poitn where you will metabolize it
WillFlexForFoood: its fairly effective later on
WillFlexForFoood: when you loose that weight and are looking to maintain or improve fitness
WillFlexForFoood: and your adiponectin levels are sufficient to make use of it
WillFlexForFoood: look in the future dont question my ness. if i say honey is good to have after a workotu.... honey is good to have
WillFlexForFoood: end.

All that hurt my head. It's as if dextrose is some rare product. It's like a dollar a pound, and probably even cheaper to use than honey.

The simple carbs you drink post workout help renew energy to the muscles, while at the same time serving as a vehicle for protein to be delivered to muscles as well. In my opinion, dextrose is the best source for simple carbs post workout, but as far as I know, honey is glucose as you or your friend said, I don't even remember. I really think both would work just fine...

honey = fructose...which the liver has to break down and convert into glucose. its ok for spiking insulin, crappy for replenishing glycogen quickly.

a low fat candy bar is full of high fructose corn syrup....you're almost better off eating rat poison that HFCS.

your friend thinks he knows a lot more than he really does.

Ya thanks for the infomation guys. I knew that honey could not be comparable to dextrose. How do you guys deal with people that think they are always right and refuse to listen to the facts?

While fructose does NOT cause insulin spikes and can actually lower the GI rating of food when combined with Fructose. Meaning honey would not make a good PWO supplement.

The GI of Honey is about 50-60 the GI of dextrose is around 100. That right there is reason enough to know that Dextrose is a better PWO.

*However, Some people do not handle pure Dextrose supplementation well which for people like these honey might be better substitute.

Yeah, you basically just smile and nod, then do your research here or elsewhere, and believe what YOU decide is right.

There are a lot of proven truths in nutrition and exercise nutrition...there are a lot of unknowns too. The more you try to understand what's within your grasp, the better off you'll be.

fructose is already a monosaccaride. and uses a slightly different pathway for energy than glucose.
