in abit of troulbe

hi ive been doing kickboxing for around 1-2 years, also have been weight trainning, couple weeks ago ive been going crazy on weight lifting, my legs are getting bigger thats the problem, my kicks are getting soo slow, i dont knw if i should do less weights with my legs to get the speed up but i really dont wanna lose my muscle :(

It's possible to have speed and big legs. Look at mirko cro-cop, HUGE legs, fast head kicks. It's just something you have to keep working on.

To build speed I've seen people do kata and techniques with ankle weights. I have NO clue if it actually works though... I've never tried it.

I was told never to use ankle weights because it puts too much preasure on the joints. Is this true?

Sorry I did not elaborate in my previous reply. I have seen MANY martial artists who are doing an intense weight training program complain that their speed has gone down. As soon as they start taking adequate rest then their speed comes back. So do your weight program and get your muscle, but then cut back to a decent rest cycle so that your muscles are not always repairing themselves.

In addition to resting well, make sure you're doing althetic-type lifts. Keep yourself loose when you kick and stretch appropriately.

Mkae sure your technique is still good, as you will see that you'll have to relearn some things in order to make your newer, bigger body do the same things.

So, do some speed squats? Do you want to have muscle and be strong but not gain so much size? do heavy weight and low reps, and watch what you eat.

look up about plyometrics and apply that
