Deadlift Question (Form of it)

As I've posted before, I'm relatively new to all of this. I'm doing the NROL break in program and I'm on program B. I'm looking at the description of how the deadlift works and the picutre. I just want to make sure I understand it completely so I don't look like an idiot at the gym. I have the weights in front on a bar, I grip the bar with fingers forward, pick up the weight, straighten body completely, put weight back on floor, repeat? Is this right?

I also have a question on the step-up exercise in the break-thru program. Is there an alternative excercise? My gym does not accomidate the platforms.

thats a deadlift... theres a bit more to it though.. does NROL explain about pushing your feet through the floor, shoulders and hips rising at the same rate until the bar is over the knee, then pushing the hips forward to lockout?

for stepups, i think you could use benches..

I don't know if it explains it with the hips in shoulders, however I don't have the book in front of me at the moment ( I'm at work slackin off). It does mention about pushing with the middle of the foot. I was just concerned because it seemed like it was too simple of an exercise, wasn't sure if there was more form to it. I appreciate the incite on it though.

Go to the gym with confidence and if people start smirking just ask a personal trainer whether they can spare 5 mins to correct your technique. People won't smirk though, unless you turn up in pink shorts.
