Hello everyone. First I will start with some background:
I'm 16 years old, 17 in a couple of months. For my age, I'm somewhat tall at 6 feet, but I am underweight. I only weigh about 135, and I eat like a beast. Honestly, I eat fairly healthy and most of my food consists of meats and other high protein diets. Therefore, I'm rather thin. I work out a lot, focusing on running and abs, but I would like to get bigger arms. My triceps and shoulders are fairly developed from doing push-ups, however my biceps are barely noticeable. I've tried working out a lot but I don't notice any results whatsoever, even after a month. A friend of mine who has a passion for weight lifting suggest that I stop running so much, as that burns most of my calories, however that is an important part of my workout. He suggested also investing in whey protein as a supplement to my diet, though a little out of my price range, I'm not sure if I should get it. Another friend suggested that I take supplements (that the protein will not be enough) of a more "hard core" nature, such as 17-BOL if anyone is familiar with that. I personally distrust such products, as I'm unsure of the potential side effects.
So as for my questions...
-Should I step up my diet? What would you recommend? I usually look for high protein meals but what else should I consume?
-Is whey protein worth the investment? Will it help me build muscle mass?
-Are these other products like 17-BOL worth taking? Are there any side effects?
-What exercises would you recommend focusing on upper body and bicep building?
-What tips do you have to stay motivated in an exercise routine? Usually, I keep going but get discouraged, does anyone have any advice?
Sorry for my mass of inquiries (I may have more later, sorry). I'm really just a beginner in weight training, all I have are two dumbells as of now. I'll really accept any helpful advice, thanks in advance!
