Running into the biggest problem you can think of...

Alright, i'm sure uve heard this story once before...or at least maybe experienced it yourself. I used to run 40 minutes a day and workout my abs/legs, sometimes my arms, but im more concerned about my legs/abs...anyways, i kept a good 2 months of working out straight, and then i just stopped, i wanted to go workout so bad, but i just never did...i dont know why? i think its my lack of motivation, i really need something that can inspire me to keep a straight workout....
my goal is to workout straight from now until summer and even after summer continue, do you think you can list some ideas that help you stay motivated...and share them with me?

-looking good for girls I like
-Motivating music
-People I hate
-Rocky, Bloodsport, and Karate Kid montages
-Getting a new max on weights

Those are just a few things that get me fired up to workout. :)

yeah, i like to listen to dance/techno music, really gets me pumped up while running, i can sometimes go double my normal distance when listening to music...and thinkin about girls always comes in mind... of course :D

but thanx, is there anything u do "long term" wise, that keeps you going for months and months???
 
Hmm, honestly for me the thing that got me hooked to keep working out time after time is seeing gains. Bigger muscles, heavier weights, longer running distances, etc.
 
ah yeah i gotchyeah, idk 2morrow ima just start running my 40 minutes again, if i ever stop, ill make sure to start a new thread RIGHT AWAY!...by the way, did u just change ur sig? lol
 
And thats the way to go, if in doubt, ask someone here. There's plenty helpful people of these forums to help you(the majority of which are a lot more knowledgable on this than me :p ).

Hey guys,

If thinking about getting girls in the summer doesn't work, Tony Robbins has a really good technique that he calls the Dicken's Technique (Like Charles Dickens - from A Christmas Carol). Basically you just imagine yourself a year from now, in this case not having worked out. Then imagine 5 years, then ten years, then 20 years. Imagine looking at yourself in the mirror at each of these stages, and try to see what you'll look like, how you'll feel about yourself, how others will see you, etc. By the end of this process, you should feel about the worst you've ever felt in your life (I certainly did).

Then you slowly come back to now and start doing it all over again, but this time as if you HAD been working out (or doing whatever you want to get motivated to do). Go through it again, and by the end you should feel like the happiest strongest person in the world.

As you come back to now with that fresh in your mind, if you aren't motivated to start RIGHT THEN, then maybe just grab a bag of chips and some beer and forget about the whole thing.

Give it a try though, it's amazingly powerful.

I know this is a really terrible motivation but I've been going to the gym religiously for 4-5 months now just to rub someone elses nose in it. I know that sounds bad but this guy really is an idiot.
He was a fat guy who went on the Atkins diet and started lots of low weight isolation excersises so very quickly stripped off fat and looked pretty ripped. I tried to explain that his diet was awful and his training regime was bad but of course people always take the 'results don't lie' view on things and people even started copying him. And seeing as I was underweight and scrawny people didn't listen to me.

So I joined the gym, read up on good diet and workout techniques on here and have been making solid gains ever since.
The idiot on the other hand is bloated and weak; can't even walk to the local shops.

I'm now looking for new motivations :)
 
I dont really think any motivation is bad motivation unless your intent is malicious. My original motivation was, my girl left me and i kinda wanted to stick her with the old "look what you lost" sorta deal. Well she moved away shortly after and i never got to do that.

My new motivation is just looking good for that next lucky lady
 
i really like the idea of ... "looking in the mirror, and think about what you COULD be..." i might do that :)

by the way im from chicagoland area
 
instead of looking in the mirror and thinking about how you would look if you didnt workout look at yourself in a year from now if you do workout. take pictures, lots of pictures to track your gains
